I find it gets stuck at refreshing folder and I have to close it and re-open to get it going again. It did not use to b a problem in the past, we seem to be regressing in its usability since the early versions of ubuntu. I hope someone there knows what the problem is, otherwise have to start experimenting with other email clients, what a pain.
View 1 RepliesJust upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 - from 10.10, and now experiencing connection problems with Evolution connecting to my IMAP Microsoft Mail Server. This was working, I was successfully receiving and sending mail via my IMAP setup in Evolution. Since the upgrade to 11.04, it stopped working with the error: "Error while Refreshing folder "INBOX". You must be working online to complete this operation." I check to see if it's in online mode, and it is. I set evolution to work in offline mode. Then I set it back to "online mode" and I get the error: "Error while Reconnecting to 'IMAP Server mail.foo.blah.de.bla". Could not connect to mail.foo.blah.de.bla: Connection Refused"

Something very weird happening with email stuck in my outbox. I am on Ubuntu 9.10 and Evolution 2.28.1
I have about 8 email boxes set up - all IMAP, all on different domains, and across several ISPs. My primary ones have been working fine since I first set up Evolution about 3 weeks ago.
The less important ones had problems (I could receive but not send). I've started to address these ones and am making relevant changes to SMTP server settings etc and they seem to working now.
However, one of my primary addresses seems to now be queueing email in the outbox and not actually sending it. I did not consciously make any changes to that profile while I was fixing the other accounts. I thought there might be an issue with my ISP, but having waited overnight to resolve any potential problems, I see I still have the same problem.
I recently did a fresh install of 10.10 (previously I had 10.04). I could not do an upgrade because the package manager had a problem with unresolved dependencies resulting from the installation of a Nokia package for my CS-15 usb modem.Since it was a new install, I did fresh backups of everything I needed, including evolution. After the install I tried restoring my email from the backup. Then I noticed that the send/receive button was disabled and so was the option to work online in the file menu.
The version of evolution is 2.30.3.I thought this threadhad an answer to my problem but it appears to be something different. I tried posting to that thread but repeatedly got a database error message. A new thread is probably a better way to go anyhow.I tried deleting the .evolution folder in my home directory (as suggested in that other thread) and then re-installed evolution. How I can get my email to function again?
I have installed Claws Mail and can now access my mail without recourse to a web portal. However, this is a very unsatisfying work-around and I'd really like to get Evolution working again. One very strange thing: shortly after installing Claws I tried Evolution again and for that one session everything was OK. Now it is stuck in offline mode again.
I have been a happy Ubuntu user for several years. But I am stuck with version 9.10 because of a persistent problem with random lockups with both mouse and keyboard. A search on the forums both within and without the Ubuntu community shows that a lot of other people have this same problem. There have been a lot of suggestions given and I have tried everything I could find, but without success. I have tried clean installs of vs. 10.04, 10.10, and 11.04 but all have the same problem.
The computer will work fine for a few minutes to a few hours and then just lock up. The only way out is a hard reset. Someone suggested that the latest versions of Ubuntu have a problem with some of the newer Intel chipsets, but I don't know enough to be able to say one way or the other. I am running an ASUS P7P55D motherboard with a 4 core Intel i5 processor and an Nvidia graphics card. I have tried the latest version of the bios for the P7P55D but that hasn't helped either. Vs 9.10 is no longer supported and I am being left behind.
I burned a disk with Ubuntu on it, put it in and used the "try" function. I spent a couple hours on it and liked it. I decided to hit the install button on the desktop, it all went smoothly. It froze during the "logging off" process, so I cold booted it. Upon restart, I was prompted again to try/install Ubuntu. (Again, I've already installed it, or so I think...) Well, what the heck. I install it again, it freezes and I let it be. I come back to find it, once again, on the try/install screen. I'm currently on the "try" function again. How do I cure my lack of an installed copy of Ubuntu?

Not just the calendar, but the whole interface and I must shut the machine off to escape. I use the Gnome desktop (not the silly netbook one . I can't find any other references to this in the forums, does any one know if this is a known bug? or there is a fix? it isn't listed in the sticky at the top of the general forum.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to fix nautilus which is crashing, so deleted the ~/Desktop folder, thinking it would reset as in karmicnot in lucid. Now have home folder as the desktop. Tried recreating ~/Desktop, but no luck. Gconf-editor no luck either since checking or unchecking the home folder as destop does nothing. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

If I open "System Monitor", and end the evolution-alarm-notify task, then I can restart evolution successfully. I therefore suspect it is that which is causing trouble. I have Evolution on both distros and want to utilise the same .evolution folder from both distros depending which one I am using at present.In other words, if I have something changed in evolution in distro 1 I would like to see that change and work on in distro 2 and vice versa, because they work from the same /home partition. View 6 Replies View RelatedI came home, having left Evolution running all day, to find it frozen and unresponsive. I killed it, opened it back up... and same thing. It opens, checks through my folders (I have one imap account, and one MH folder that Evolution dumps my pop mail into.) and freezes.
In the status bar, when it freezes, this is what it's doing:
Opening folder mh:///home/katia/mail;command=ssh%20-C%20-l%20%25u%20%25h%20exec%20/usr/sbin/imapd#inbox(...)
And then it just hangs.
If I disable my MH folder real quick, it doesn't hang and I can use my imap account fine. Re-enabling my MH folder quickly causes the hang again.
I tried opening the MH folder in clawsmail, but it hung also. Mutt was able to open it fine.
A friend running Evolution on Ubuntu 9.10 lost her "Sent" folder. I soon discovered that she must have accidentally dragged it to "Templates", because inside that folder was another "Sent" folder containing all her sent e-mails. The main "Sent" folder was still there, but empty.
I moved all her sent e-mails back to the main "Sent" folder, and then tried to delete Templates-Sent, but Evolution just says it can't do that.
Is there a way to remove individual deleted e-mails (as opposed to having to empty the entire contents of the folder) from the trash folder in the Evolution e-mail program? If not, you can do this in Outlook, why would this option not be included in Evolution?
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to access the .wine folder Nautilus freezes. It may have nothing to do with wine and just be something about that folder or it's contents but here's what I have figure out so far:
-it freezes when double clicking the folder in Nautilus, right clicking, selecting folder next to it then arrow over to select
-does same thing when accessed as root
-everything worked fine when booting from a live CD
-restarting Nautilus or rebooting has no affect
-when it freezes, I can not scroll, select another folder, or do anything else in Nautilus, but it does respond to clicking the close window button by displaying the force quit dialog.
I'm trying to effectively use EVOLUTION for email but am finding it frustrating. I created a folder to house a specific group of messages. For each message, I went to the "Message" tab and clicked on "move to folder." The folder heading on the top left indicates that there are 30 messages in that folder, BUT NO MESSAGES ARE APPEARING.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used Unison to sync my desktop and laptop. Now I am getting the following error when I open my Evolution Inbox (and a few of my other mailbox folders).
"Error while Opening folder mbox:/home/myname/.evolution/mail/local#Archive/foldername"
"column folder_name is not unique"
I have tried moving the .evolution/local/mail folder opening Evolution, closing and then moving back - no joy. It is also definitely not a folder size problem, my mailbox is less than 1GB.
Opening Evolution from the terminal I get;

I decided to check out nautilus-clamscan, in which all it does is add an option to scan the selected file or folder for viruses in the context menu, and while it works fine for some things highlighted, for some that I've randomly tried it freezes, and won't complete scanning. using the usual method of scanning for viruses through Clamtk, it scans those files and folders just fine, so it's not those themselves that's causing the freezing.

Basically, my email folder is in a unix folder on a system, and that system logs me into my folder when I try using evolution. The downside is that files like .bashrc, .bash_profile and other weird stuff end up in the foldertree view

i encountered the following:
situation:
1 server with centos 5.4 running 1 client with centos 5.4 - gnome running thin ethernet network
on my client desktop i have a link to a shared folder on the server. this works fine.
to the problem: after working with this (using the link and seeing it working) i shutted down the server from my client (in a terminal screen, using ssh) the terminal screen signalled the server going down and the connection ended. the linked folder on the client desktop changed its icon fine.
after that i clicked on the changed icon (of the link that was not a working link any more) and the client machine froze.... no reaction any more. i could only end the session by >ctrl-alt-f#< , log in and shutdown.
Q: is it normal Centos is that angry when you click such a link?
When I open some folders with Thunar, even if they don't have more than a few files in them, it takes a very long time to show the contents. Sometimes up to two minutes. It happens almost always if the folder is on my ntfs partition, but sometimes even when it's at /home.I used to run Ubuntu Hardy, and nothing like this ever happened with Nautilus.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Zotac MAG (read my personnal review here) with Ubuntu 10.04 freshly updated installed with vnc provided with Synaptic and XBMC. This box replaces an equivalent Win7 box.
Couldn't be happier up until some few days ago. VNC stops refreshing the screen.
Albeit it had never refreshed the screen while XBMC was running, I could quit it with keyboard shortcuts and my desktop would show and applications would "animate".
Since a few days ago, the only thing I get is the first screen, wether it's XBMC or the desktop and that's it. I need to quit and restart my vcn client to get another screen refresh.
I have tried, from my desktop, ultravnc, realvnc and tightvnc on the client side... Using many different connection options. Always with the same results.
I have looked around on this forum as well as on Google, but I am not sure where the problem comes from, thus, what to search for.
I recently upgraded from xubuntu 9.04 to 11.04, and it seems xterm is either incorrectly configured for the new desktop or not working right. After a bit of typing, xterm stops refreshing, and only the first few chars or words are shown until I manually refresh xterm (then, whatever I'd written shows up correctly).
Steps to reproduce
1. Open xterm, basic command prompt shows up
2. Type "hello, this is a test", xterm only shows "hello, th"
3. Press 'ctrl-l' or click outside the xterm window, xterm updates with full "hello, this is a test"
Already tried dpkg-reconfigure with no success.

I have this weird issue: from time to time (I really cant be more specific, never managed to see a pattern when the problem occurs) the content of open windows is not refreshed until the window is restored and then maximized again. In most cases it is the browser (firefox beta 9), but it is not application specific, because it happens with different applications. I am using the ubuntu 10.10 (kernel 2.6.35-24-generic-pae), compiz(0.8.6) with Nvidia drivers (260.19.06) and X (xorg-server 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7.1).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my external hard drive, every time I reboot I have to get on my knees and unplug it from my computer and plug it back in for it to load. There is no power switch on it so i am looking for a way, from the terminal, to reload it.
Using "lsusb" in the terminal I can see:
I heard something about being able to restart a port by the id but can not find anywhere that says how to do this.
Also i was wondering if there is something for Ubuntu like the Perl man pages that just lists all of the commands that a person would use. That would be much preferred to having to look around the Internet every time i need a line of code. And being based on debian would it make sence to look for how to do things in debian if i cant find how to do it in Ubuntu? or will just "in Linux" work?
So I have a laptop that I installed 9.10 on recently and for a bit everything was going fine. I have done a few updates over the course of the past week and for a couple days now I have got a huge problem. I am unable to view web pages without having to refresh them over and over until it finally loads. I thought this issue was only with Firefox and I researched the issue and ended up disabling ipv6 in FF. To no avail.
Synaptic Package Manager also will not connect to the internet. It will receive the list of updates but as soon as I click install it sticks on Downloading File 1 of XX. Since it wasn't limited to Firefox and there is debate on whether ipv6 slows down connectivity, I have disabled it system wide. Also to no avail. I have confirmed this to be so with wired and wireless connections to my router.
