Ubuntu :: Desk Top Has Not Changed To "Unity" Desktop?
May 4, 2011I was using Ubuntu 10.10.I upgraded to 11.04 through update manager.Though other functions are as per 11.04 the desk top has not changed to "Unity" desktop.

Ubuntu :: Unity Theme Changed?
May 24, 2011I turned on my computer this morning and the theme has changed. The top bar is white and all of the icons have changed? I using the default Unity configuration does anyone know whats happened?

Jun 9, 2011I switched on my machine this evening and the first thing I noticed was the home icon in the unity launcher has changed, then I noted then I noted that the window switcher icon, power-off icon and me icon in top right are also different.
On starting nautilus (clicking on home icon) it looks more like thunar (although about says its not). A screen shot showing "nautilus-thunar" and the desktop is attached.
Firefox's minimize, maximize and close icons have also changed - see other screen shot.
Anyone got any idea what's going on? Anyone else have this.

Jun 19, 2010I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Aug 12, 2011is it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.

Jun 18, 2010So I just recently installed Ubuntu Lucid Lynx over my old XP system and I have been loving it so far. I did run into a problem though. Shortly after installing Ubuntu, it prompted me to install updates and I did so. After the updates had installed, my computer restarted and the whole desktop theme/look changed to a older looking version of Ubuntu. I really liked the look of Lucid Lynx and have been trying to get it back.

May 2, 2011It just happened now, I didn't notice if was changed on reboot or now (most likely) but I should have black menus with orange selected area.SOMETIMES (2-3 times now) I get this silver color menus with blue selection.What is the deal there?? Anybody know. I like it black w/ orange!(Running in classic mode in Ubuntu 11.4) I checked my Compiz Icon and Iam still under Compiz in Window Manager. I didn't change anything. On my reboot it will be black menus with orange.

Jul 31, 2011I recently edited a .pptx presentation in LibreOffice, and it wouldn't close, until finally I had to force it to quit. The document recovered fine, and I saved it and all is good. I thought.
A couple of icons on the desktop acted weird, as in they wouldn't move, and I got a blank notification window when I tried to access them. So I rebooted.
Now, Launcher icons that had color are all in black and white, or most are, my desktop icons are b/w, and no longer have the icons that were associated with them originally. They seem to operate well, everything just changed.
I am running a Dual Core AMD Phenom II X2 565 64bit processor, 2G Ram, Natty, 2.6.38.10 generic kernel, Radeon 4290 graphics.
All of my windows (I know, bad word, but what else do you call them?) have changed to b/w themes as well.

Jul 25, 2010I installed the Ubuntu 10.10 beta and after intalling, it installed Unity from the Netbook edition.
I thought it was normal so I tried it out for a while but it was glitchy and I didnt like it so I tried disabling it. I couldnt find a way how to do it, and I didnt have any Panels on my desktop and my background was just plain white, all that was visible was the Unity bar on the left side of the screen.
I decided to just reset my ubuntu settings to default without losing any of my Apps, movies, music, pictures etc etc
After doing that I restarted Ubuntu but now all i get its a white background without any panels and only Docky pops up at the bottom.
Is there anything I could do?

Jan 26, 2010I use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.
I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.

Dec 4, 2010When the live CD is booted up, there is a notice saying Ubuntu is sorry, as there is no 3D support in the laptop. If the Live CD doesn't see the video card etc, then there is a problem. The laptop has NVidia Geforce 310M, meaning it has the 3D support, only Ubuntu doesn't see it on live boot, so what the use of the Unity desktop? The Gnome starts up.
I have seen Gnome, but I'd like to see Unity. How can I do it? I can of course download the NVidia driver. But to activate the driver, I have to restart the laptop, then the Live session would go away. By the way, if Linux to be everybody's OS, I think the "restricted" drivers should be included, as they are allowed by the owners to be downloaded!

May 6, 2011I have recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I'd like to be able to dual boot into Windows or Linux on my PC so I've installed in on an ext4 partition on a separate drive from Windows. The installation process ran smoothly and the dual boot functionality works as planned. The problem I'm having is that after logging in, the login window disappears (as does the options bar at the bottom of the screen), and then nothing else appears, just the mouse cursor (sometimes the loading icon, sometimes not) and an empty background image, no icons, no menus. It doesn't matter how long I leave it for, nothing ever happens from this point on. I am technical, however, unfortunately ,I'm very new to Linux (something I'd like to remedy) so I'm a bit stuck with what to try next.

May 6, 2011So I finally managed to install a copy of Natty on my old laptop, but when I logged in, the desktop was frozen. I could move my mouse, but I couldn't click anything. I didn't know if it had to do with packages not being up to date or something (though I doubt it is) so I ran sudo apt-get update, and then tried to run sudo apt-get upgrade, but I got an error saying "E: Unable to locate package upgrade". Apparently I'm not the first to have this problem. I found a similar question asked at [URL]... login. However, there was no answer. I thought that maybe an Ubuntu-specific forum would have an answer.
