I created a application launcher (type:terminal) to replace the index.php on my apache server (/var/www/) with the index I keep updated on my desktop.
This is the exact script I'm using on the launcher:
My idea was the launcher would delete the current file at /var/www/, and then copy the file on /home/andre/Desktop.
But its not behaving properly, it is deleting both the file in my /var/www/ AND my desktop.
so I am trying to make a launcher under application/Games menu for OpenBVE. In this launcher I need it to run 2 commands in the terminal:

Now, the reason I have to delete the .ini file, is for some reason the file gets corrupted every time (it's a well known problem, from what I've read.) and I can't start up the program until it's removed. Now, it works fine in Terminal, but when I run it through my Launcher icon, it does nothing.
I got a problem trying to add a luncher in my application menu. I installed netgen and it works fine. If I try to launch it from the terminal like "$ netgen", it does work. It also works if I double click on the program icon in its folder. But when I try to make a launcher in the menu, it doesn't. I tried both Application (nothing happens) and Application in Terminal (I see a window flash for a second and then it disappears).

Nor do I have the ability to "edit" existing launchers anymore.Is this a feature or a bug? I am sincerely hoping it's not a feature, it's a "look for a different window manager" kind of feature if it is. I don't have a launcher for Firefox and can't create one. (I probably can by hand editing some config files somewhere but I have no idea which ones). And I'm not inclined to do so. I had it up until my most recent updates, 30 minutes ago.
(update)It's running Lucid, AMD64. I have three other Lucid boxes and none of them acquired the same issue after updates so I now believe it to be something with this machine. After rummaging around for a few hours I have not found the fix. Can someone please tell me the program(s) that are responsible for this? That would at least point me in a better direction than I have now.And oh yes, I have logged out, rebooted and re-installed a few things with no change.
And..to make it more interesting. When logged in as root I HAVE this functionality, so it's something peculiar to this user profile.I gave up, made myself a new homedir, copied everything but .gnome and its subtree and a few other .subdirs and the functionality is back. I have no idea what fixed it, or broke it for that matter. But this is a valid workaround, worked for me..
I run 10.10, netbook. Fine so far. I don't manage to call an application that I added manually, though. I have created a menu item, with all subdetails, a proper command, icon, everything. And I can see it in the menu editor, and it is there, even after a reboot. But: How to launch it?? It never shows up under applications, it doesn't show up in Searches, I can't type it in. It does work fine, though, when I open a terminal and add the proper command. It then also shows in the launcher list (left column). But it can't make it 'stick' there, the right-click option does not show in this case.

I am running 11.04.
My application launcher on the left side and the main menu bar at the top of the screen have disappeared. When I boot up, all I see is my desktop background and "Computer" icon.
I was messing around with the compiz settings and enabled and then disabled the cube effects. When I did so I disabled some plugins but can't remember which ones.
I installed a new theme and my menu bar glitched. I restarted and when i boot up, there is no more menu bar or application bar (running 11.04) I boot into classic or safe mode and the bars are there. i already tried right click > change background > changed theme with no success.

I have created and SVG file and placed it in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/ and when I try to select it as the icon for the application launcher, it just goes back to the gnome-panel-launcher.svg default.If I put the SVG file on my desktop and then select it, all is well. I'm assuming this is some type of permission problem, but I cannot seem to figure it out. It seems if I scroll through it I can have it scroll down to use more applications.What I'd like to do is either make the application icons smaller so that they can all fit on the screen without me having to scroll or either make it wider so that there can be two vertical rows of application icons.Are there any options to do this or make any other changes to the application launcher?

How do I add a new printer? CUPS asks for root's password, which is unknown/undefined. I tried sudo, but I'm not in the sudoers file. Catch 22? It did create the launchers. It just put them in "Other" even though I told it to create them in "Internet" so they are there, but just not where I want them. That is okay since now I can add them to my favorites and put them in the order I want.
I guess I will like Gnome 3 better as I find tweaks to make it work like I want it to work. Still though, it is not nearly as user friendly as my heavily tweaked Gnome 2 with Compiz.Another question though: How do I get it to select and use a photo I want for the background instead of the stock images? I downloaded this program and its already compiled and works fine but i can only launch it from a command line by typing "java -jar phex.jar" I have created launchers before and they have worked, but this one just doesn't work. I have all permissions on the directory and the files, but how to create a launcher for this file.

the above command is what i want to be executed at time of running the custom application launcher. if i paste the command in a terminal, it will show the output for 5 secs and then terminates... that's almost what i want. what i exactly want is that, i want it to work like when i click on the shortcut launcher, it should open a terminal and then exectues that command, show the output for 5 sec, pause, and then exits the teriminal.
Seems like such an unbelievably basic question, but a day of google searches as well as directly on this site with key word combinations like "jessie gnome application launch" or "jessie gnome launcher" has only yielded one remark somewhere that the only way to get any kind of custom application launcher working on a gnome 3.14 desktop is to copy an already existing one from an older gnome setup, such as Wheezy.
I know gnome is a bit limited compared to many other desktops, but besides this I consider gnome in Jessie very good and just can't believe the ability to customize application launchers could have really been made completely impossible to do. This single omission alone would make gnome extremely lame in my view, so I sure hope that is not in fact the way it is.

I am using Opensuse 11.4 with KDE Version 4.7.1 and kernel 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop on an Acer TravelMate 4200.I updated my system yesterday and since that update the default Application Launcher for KDE is not working, when you click on the launch icon you get the "Kickoff Application launcher" balloon dialog but nothing else happens. A sort of a work around for this issue is that I have found when the application launcher is switched to Classic Menu Style then the classic menu works without any problems. I would however like to use the default launcher and not the classic one as it has so much more functionality and is easier to use and navigate

View 3 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the application launcher (the one that pops out when pressing the green chameleon button) has changed and I no longer get the formerly so pretty application launcher. Instead I now get a simple context menu style drop down menu.
I first noticed this after I updated PackageKit. is there a way to get this back to the previous applicationn launcher. When adding just the applet (without the button) it still looks the same, just the button doesn't pop it out anymore, as it chose to pop out a grey drop down instead.
This is on OpenSuse 11.4 KDE 4.5 and the latest desktop kernel
I have recently dual booted an Old Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) It was recommended to me by a friend after XP was becoming unstable. To the Problem : I have downloaded Chromium as the web browser as I am not a fan of Firefox, but every time I launch Chromium... It launches into a random work space and not the one I am working in.. So I cannot open multiple Chromium windows.. So to find where it has launched it, I have to click work space switcher and find it.. If I click Maximise, instead of maximizing it to the work space limits... it makes it go over 2 seperate work spaces..
