Ubuntu Multimedia :: Web Cam Chatroulette - Displays Yellow And Blue Lines Across Its On Screen Display Box

Mar 6, 2010

I got out my old Fuji Finepix s3100 and set it to web cam mode to see if anything had changed in the world of usb video drivers. Lo and behold it worked! I can watch myself on cheese web cam booth. kewl, but I wanted more. So, just recently hearing about chatroulette on the Daily Show, I click and wahla no go . After flash comes up and asks for and receives user permission to access my hardware, I click to find a random stranger, and my camera displays yellow and blue lines across its onscreen display box. I notice that movement is noticed by the camera. If I move I notice a change in background/lines. As far as I can tell, my camera is not a fault. I mean it works for local viewing. Is this a flash or possibly a chatroulette problem?

Programming :: Bash Text To Variable Accessing Individual Text Lines?

May 2, 2010

i am on processing text tasks And i found that if you assign a text to a variable is chomp'ed automatically the newline

Code:

variable=$(cat file.txt)

The problem is i can only access the items/lines using:

Code:

for line in $variable
do
echo $line
# Other commands
done

how do i convert this to an indexed array. More importantly, how do i get access to individual $line[0], ..., $line[n] Another thing, if the file.txt, has lines with spaces it is a mess using the for...in..., but echoing prints line by line...o_0

Ubuntu :: Remove Duplicate Lines From A Text File?

Dec 16, 2010

Contained within each of these 67 text files is about 1 million urls. Yes. I have 67 text files that contain 1 million lines of urls each. I am sure I am swimming in duplicates. I tried opening one text file and clicking sort ----->remove duplicates. Now Gedit is not responding my processor is maxed out to 100% and I think I am finally ready to delve into some command line code. Can anyone give me idiot proof instructions on how to sort the duplicates out of each one of these 67 text files? How about no duplicates across all 67?

I would really like to disable how on most KDE programs the boxes that have text in them it has a two tone line scheme, I am probably not explaining it too well but I will attach a picture. I like the color scheme I have now, but for some reason it uses black for the second color. I have looked in appearance settings and haven't found anything that changes it.

Ubuntu :: Paste Multiple Lines Of Text Into Terminal / Nano?

Jan 24, 2010

I'm using GNOME terminal to SSH into a Debian server and would really like a way to paste multiple lines of text into configuration files (using the nano text editor if possible).

So far whatever I try dumps all the text onto a single line meaning I have to manually go through inserting line feeds which is tedious and can introduce errors.

Is there a way to paste text with line feeds intact? Rather than copying each line individually?

Ubuntu :: Remove Duplicate Lines In Plain Text File?

Apr 14, 2010

i have a big file of random numbers i generated at some point in time, after working with it with different things(how fun that was)... i want to remove duplicate lines and i'm not sure i'm doing this right

heres the command

Code:
sort random.txt | uniq -u > rand-shorter.txt

the file is pretty big, everything on a new line. i found the command on a web site so i'm sure its correct(bit of a command line in linux newbie)

can anyone confirm if this will remove lines duplicate lines (keeping one copy) and dump what is left in a file named rand-shorter.txt?

EDIT: i think its actually working, just taking a reallllly long time (on an old pen 4 from 2000)

General :: Sed - Replacing Only Text With Several Specific Lines Excluded

Jun 17, 2010

As much as I didn't want to ask a sed question, especially considering there's already one on this page I've looked as best I could and cant find the solution. Id like to use sed to replace occurrences of a pattern but exclude two or 3 specific lines that are not consecutive. For example I know with 1,10 i could exclude the first 10 lines, what is the syntax if I just wanted to exclude line 3 and 7. The sed command I'm working with right now is for rearranging Ethernets.

cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules | sed -e '/'"$found1fullmac"'/!s/eth1/'"found1eth"'/' > /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

I would like to replace $found1fullmac with two variables representing line numbers to exclude from the replacement.
