I have a dual monitor setup with Kubuntu (lucid lynx). I followed xmonad guide for disabling greedy view behavior. Here is my xmonad.hs. Am I doing something wrong ?

when I boot my pc with fedora 10, it displays the white cube, although i can rotate it but it does not seem to work i cant see any desktops. How can I switch back to the normal desktop view or disable compiz fusion ?

View 3 Replies View Relatedrecently added xmonad and seems pretty fun! was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to add keybindings that don't start with the modmask key..reason needed is that i want to have the win key to be the modmask and then need shift+alt to switch between two languages. So far I've "hacked" it by writing a script that switches between the two languages whenever it runs, and I've bound that to modmask + shift however this causes problems whenever I press modmask + shift for other shortcuts...
Also, how do you make keybindings work for different languages.. effectively what I need is identify each key as a key rather than as a character.
I'm running Xmonad and just recently it has stopped responding. None of my shortcuts are working at all. So I deleted my ~/.xmonad/xmoand.hs file, and still no luck. So I decided to log in as root and Xmonad works perfectly. Anyone know why Xmonad isn't working under my normal user? Is there a button i accidently pressed turning off the mod key?I was just browsing the web, then after I closed my browser nothing has been working, even after reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having some trouble using the Esperanto locale in Xmonad for sometime. I used this locale mainly in the terminal, because obviously Xmonad is a tiling WM and doesnt need a specific locale itself. I found that Esperanto locale prevents Xmonad from starting, but that if the LANG locale is exported after Xmonad is already started, it will turn my xterminal into an Esperanto terminal. Thus opening mutt mail will show Esperanto-Mutt, and for instance "command not found" becomes "komando ne trovita". I enjoy seeing this.
So the trick then is running "export LANG="eo.utf8"" just after xmonad loads before any other programs are run. I tried various things, and now wonder is it possible to just have the terminal itself running it its own locale? I could run this manually in every terminal, but wonder about automating it. I use the Xfce4-Terminal.
I tried .bash_profile, .xinitrc, .bashrc, and I tried adding the export to a bash script set to run by xmonad after it starts up. None of these cause the desired effect. I also notice it is temporary. If I open a terminal and do the export, that terminal is Esperantized. If I open a new terminal it is back to english.
Another thing I noticed is that after xmonad starts, if I manually add the export to .bashrc, all the terminals are in Esperanto. So I am thinking of making a script that does a find and replace of the .bashrc to add the export. Its tricky, some kind of sed-grep action. Another idea would be to put the .bashrc in a weird location so it isnt found on startup. Then make a command to symlink to it in the user folder after Xmonad starts. The main Slackware system would be English locale in order to prevent Xmonad from barfing on startup.
I got myself into some trouble this afternoon when I thought I would give xmonad a try on my HP mini 210 that runs f14 lxde spin. so, after installing xmonad and dmenu and playig around a bit I found out that my wifi doesn't work. I tried ifup but I get the 'usage: .." response which I have read means that the programm can't find a configuration file for the device (and I am pretty sure that some programm was managing these files for me up until now).
I have tried to run system-config-network, which defaults to the tui version for some reason, I guess at this point that the normal gui is based on the gnome backend or something? Anyway, the terminal version just outputs a bunch of info about the devices that exist on the system (eth1 the broadcom wifi device is also listed) and then exits.
Anyway, in the normal lxde desktop you could use the gnome network manager, I guess this is not the case when running xmonad. So how do I do this? Links to documentation are welcomed. EDIT: some info about how I get to xmonad, the machine uses the standard LXDM login and from there I just select the xnomad window manger before logging in. I mean I am not trying to use it on top of anything else (eg. xmonad/gnome or xmonad/lxde etc.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a documentary to watch and it is in the .mkv format.this is cool because the format contains different languages and subtitles and everything, but the problem I have is some parts are in a foreign language. the subs are in the file but how do I get to them? I thought, no problem I'll just burn it to a dvd and watch it on my dvd player but can't find any way to encode this file to burn on a dvd. it's supposed to have the menus and languages and subs and everything but I can't find a program that will use it in Linux or Windows. what gives? if this is the case it really is a more than useless format, it's a waste of time to create using this format and a waste of time trying to use on the other end. I found a program that will extract the video but doesn't address getting the right language track or the subtitles.

I then used k3b to write 2 parts of the archive these to a Dual Layer DVD. The burn went fine but I cannot seem to mount said DVD. I tried the following;

Is there anyway to view the Boot Log of the messages displayed during the booting of Ubuntu? I found log file viewer under Administration but there were so many logs I did not know if any of them were the Boot up logs. I have my Ubuntu configured to display the messages as it boots before it switches to GUI mode and I see an error message about something failing to initialise but it goes by too fast to read the entire error message. My question is: what is an easy way to view all of these HTML files? I know on Ruby you can run gem-server and you can see all of your RDocs from localhost on your browser. Is there an equivalent to that on Ubuntu for gtk-doc?
I reload the indexpage of the General Help forum, the screen view is not the same as what it was. When I read the indexpage the first thread is listed at the top of the screen, I scroll down to have that.After reloading I see the top of the page on top of the screen and I have to scroll down again.This used to be different. I use Mint 9, related to Lucid 10.04 in 64 bits version and Google Chrome as webbrowser. To reload pages automatically I use the plug-in Autoreload and have it set at 10 seconds.I just saw in Firefox it works good, so it must be Chrome.I also placed this thread in the "Forum Feedback and Help" forum but since that is a less popular forum I want to place it here.
