when I open the update manager, he lists 14 items as recomended updates and when I click on install updates appears a box with this mesage "An error occurred" and makes the following list: Code: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Size mismatch
I'm running 9.04 and trying to use the update manager. On checking for updates, I get the error message:W: Failed to fetch http://mirror.uoregon.edu/ubuntu/arc...ty/Release.gpg Could not connect to 69.219.142.196:21 (69.219.142.196). - connect (111 Connection refused)W: Failed to fetch http://mirror.uoregon.edu/ubuntu/arc...tion-en_US.bz2 Could not connect to 69.219.142.196:21 (69.219.142.196). - connect (111 Connection refused)(more...)This used to work, but now it doesn't. I tried selecting all kinds of different sources in the "Software Sources" GUI. And this seemed to change my /etc/sources.list accordingly. But, whatever the hostname given (above mirror.uoregon...), that same IP address is shown 69.219.... huh? I can browse the web, etc fine from this computer
when I try to update my Debian, I have the following internal error:Error message:Fetch failed: W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) , W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I'm unable to install updates and new packages. I receive messages such as the following:

I recently had windows vista taken off my hard drive and my partitions realigned to create more storage space on my hard drive. I don't now if this is related. I was able to install upgrades previously.
Lately when I've tried to update my packages many of them don't update. I get nothing out of the ordinary when using the terminal but when I try to update via the Update manger I get this error message:
Code: Error message: Fetch failed: W:Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/mirror.steadfast.net_debian_dists_testing_main_source_Sources Hash Sum mismatch W:Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/mirror.steadfast.net_debian_dists_testing_main_binary-amd64_Packages Hash Sum mismatch, W:Failed to fetch http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian/dists/testing/updates/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 208.100.4.53 80]

I've tried several different mirrors but get the same error with every one. Same result with ftp as well. Yesterday I upgraded to Wheezy and every package successfully upgraded, but today the problem started again.
Why do I receive messages that have the phrase "fail to fetch" when I try to update Ubuntu 11.04? I am using System, Administration, Update Manager and I have not modified the file /etc/apt/sources.list; nevertheless, I have copied it below together with an example message code...

While I am trying to install updates following error is displayed
W:Failed to fetch url 404 Not Found , W:Failed to fetch url 404 Not Found , E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
My internet conection is good, I've installed some updates months ago.
I am having a problem updating my Ubuntu (10.04 Lucid Lynx). I see that other have had this problem before back on Intrepid but I was unable to find any information about people having this problem recently. When I try to update using Update Manager, I get the following errors:
I am having trouble upgrading and updating. When updating the file downloads to 99% and then stops. The error message is:

I believe this has something to do with a power outage while upgrading a few days ago. Most of the install completed after rebooting, all except the three 'linux kernel image' files and a few others. Also, as a side issue, Flash plugin and Flex builder are no longer working. This may be unrelated. Does any one have any trouble shooting advice for the issue?
I just can't get any updates from: [URL] AND [URL] In both cases it says "404 not found" Here's the code out of the terminal after typing "sudo apt-get update"
W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

After click on install updates and entering password, a message says "Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s). Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages? Yes/No.
If I answer No, this message appears:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po....10.1_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
If Yes, it tries to download but immediately:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po....10.1_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
It has always installed the updates with no problems, until these 3 updates remain in pending installation status.

I'm trying get updates from update manager and it says "the upgrade needs a total of 498M free space on disk '/'. Please free at least an additional 495M of disk space on '/'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'." I ran sudo apt-get clean n it did nothing.
Is there an easy way/place to get more info on the updates that the Ubuntu (9.04) Update Manager presents to you? I know you can highlight one and look below at the "Changes" and "Description". But how can you find a real explanation of what the update is? To give one exampe: There's a 5.0MB update called: openoffice.org-writer It appears to be a new version of the Writer program?? or is it just security updates?? Should I install it if I'm happy with the current Writer version? bottom line: where can I get plain talk about what these updates are?
I am relatively new to Ubuntu, so this might be an easy fix. When I try to install my updates with Update Manager I get this error message: p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } W: Failed to fetch [URL]..Could not connect to 172.16.30.51:3128 (172.16.30.51). - connect (110: Connection timed out) W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...tu1.3_i386.deb Unable to connect to 172.16.30.51:3128: (and it goes on like this for a while) Also, when I go to install software, I get this message: Requires installation of untrusted packages. and if I click OK, nothing happens. The software won't install. I have a feeling this is because I can't update my system.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router
I recently upgraded to 9.04 and Update Manager stopped working. If I start Update Manager it will check for updates and display them but will not install the updates. I am prompted for a password but the updates are never downloaded and I get no error messages.

I can't select any of the distribution updates in the update manager. The screen shot attached shows there are 3 distribution updates available but I can't select the check box in the update manager UI to have the update installed. My system is Ubuntu 10.10 (2.6.35-24-generic).

I particularly want to update my version of OpenShot video editor. I have version 1.1.3 installed and I can see there is now a version 1.2.2.1.
I'd like to get this app under management of the update manager. How can I do this?
I currently have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 (The beta) running on my Laptop. I want to know if it's possible to get 11.04 (Full) through the update manager? If so, how? Secondly, if I wanted to just go back to 10.10, could i install it over the current 11.04? I don't want to copy files over or anything like that, just a fresh start.
Installed Macbuntu on my new installation of Ubuntu 10.10. At onset was able to run update Manager with no problem. However after a couple of days and since I did the theme to make my ubuntu look like a Mac...it doesn't want to install any updates it receives. It says another program is running but I'm not running anything other than the Update Manager. Any suggestions as to how to fix this or should I drop the theme and go back to the regular window theme that came with the version of Ubuntu 10.10 I downloaded from the main site.
How do I disable certain updates in the update manager? I don't want to install the open office uno runtime environment because I installed the rpm packages from the open office website. This update corrupts my installation of open office and I always have to reinstall it.
I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS right now, and after looking at my updates the computer said I needed. Some of them look like i would not need them at all. It had like over a thousand updates to do. Should I pick and choose or just run it?
My Update Manager stopped working for last three weeks. When I press button INSTALL UPDATES in Update Manager, nothing happens just Reading packing information is executed and when it is finished nothing continues,so nothing I chosen is installed. I have tried to fix broken packages in Synaptic Manager, but no change.
I am experiencing a Hang while downloading updates using the Update Manager. I have 61 packages in order to update my system.
Every time i try to install the updates, the download hangs for a large period of time, I tried to change the server i changed the server (US) to Main Server and the problem persists!
