After upgrading a couple of months ago from Ubuntu server 9.04 to 10.04, transmission stopped working. I have since removed it and reinstalled. It is running as I can start and stop the daemon. However, I can't locate the settings.json file so I can get into it in the browser. The version running is 1.93. I tried searching in multiple directories and even searched using:
Code:
sudo find / -iname settings.json
Nothing came up.
I stopped the daemon and created the file in /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json with the contents of my old file I had saved elsewhere. Restarted the daemon and I still get the 404 error.
I was suspicious the last step wouldn't work as I was of the opinion that transmission is supposed to generate its own default settings.json file.
I am using ubuntu 11.04. I want to know that how can I set proxy settings for Transmission bittorrent client?I fill the settings in network proxy but it won't work for bittorrent.
I can no longer update Fedora because it fails and hangs on trying to update package "transmission-gtk" due to a dependency "transmission-common" whose source cannot be found. How do I fix this and how can linux update break itself so badly that it adds dependencies to itself without checking for their sources first?
I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.
Trying to use json in a php application. phpInfo says php was configured "--disable-json". Looked around and found json.ini in the /etc/php.d and json.so in /usr/lib/php/modules Trying to run a php application, e.g.php test_client.phpI get the error messages:
I have this JSON encoded data, which I want to efficiently parse (i.e. fast, with minimal system resources). I don't want to use a/the shell any more than necessary.
Here's a snippet of what the raw serial data looks like:
Code: [{"num":1,"name":"1","visible":false,"focused":false,"rect":{"x":0,"y":0,"width":1680,"height":1050},...blah blah.. So that's fine. I currently have at least two ways of parsing it:
This Perl method (which I don't much care for because I'm not much into Perl, and because the output is not much more useful than the raw form, and imho even more cryptic):
# Which means: at x=1680, draw a 20x20px grey block, then back up -10px and draw a "1" on the block.I figure that the two awk's I've used can be combined into one -- but I began having problems with removing the single quotes if I did it within the awk, which is why I stuck a `tr` in the middle.
I know this sucks. So, if someone has some ideas or thoughts on something else to do with this JSON data, that's less convoluted that where I'm currently going, I'll be happy to hear about it.
PS - I know this whole post is possibly hard to understand -- if you need more info (you mean you're interested in this mess?? )
When I first installed Karmic, I created a dummy Ubuntu1 account to play around with and have long since forgotten everything about it. Now I am attempting to setup a real account and I cannot find a way to modify the account settings for the client software. Is there a way or do I have to purge it?
Although I just installed F11, it's been out a while. Anyway, I went to System -> Administration expecting to find Server Settings. It wasn't there! That had been the way to set up NFS for file sharing on my local network.
I have been following a tutorial to get wireless working on my laptop. But the funny thing is, I can not find the hardware driver settings. In the tutorial they say: "Under the desktop menu System > Administration > Hardware/Additional Drivers, the b43 drivers can be activated for use." My KDE desktop looks like this:
[URL]
I am very confused and uncertain how to proceed. Besides this little confusion, is there a way to get the normal KDE desktop back? With the taskbar at the lower-side of the screen?
I did a upgrade from 13.1 to 13.37 both 64 bit. Then I had the urge to checkout KDE 4.6.2 Now there the wheels came off :I get this message trying to start system settings.System Settings was unable to find any views, and hence has nothing to display.Anyway its my fault had a wrong version in the directory I installed from.
I have 2 10.04 computers and one win 7 and one vista computer: The win computers can see each other and the ubuntu computers, but the ubuntu computers cannot see each other or the win machines. The ubuntu computers connect to the internet fine and can ping each other. I cannot find settings to correct.
I am currently using Debian Lenny and am having problems with my pptp vpn client. I can use the following software for as long as I like without my pptp vpn connection dropping out: (1) iceweasel (2) icedove (3) gtk-gnutella
If a use a bittorrent client, however, my pptp vpn connection drops out within a few minutes. I have tried these bittorrent clients: transmission, deluge, tixati. Enabling or disabling the firewall makes no difference.I have searched pptpclient.sourceforge.net and Debian User Forums but have not been able to find any suggestions on settings to change in a bittorrent client.
Iam pretty new to Linux.I installed fedora 10 on my pc recently.I wanted to add a program to the startup menu but I cant find Preferences menu in the Settings menu. Iam writing to this form after a lot of googling.Hope I can find some answer here
i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:
1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed. 2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings
I want to start off by saying I'm very new to Ubuntu. I have been using Ubuntu for about a week now and have not looked back!! Now on to my issue. I have been tying to update Transmission 1.75(9117) to the lasted version (transmission-1.92) but i can't seem to get the Synaptic Package Manager to find it. I have downloaded transmission-1.92 and extracted it on to the desktop but Synaptic Package Manager still can't find it.
I can't seem to get transmission to boot up at start up. I read that I just needed to put "transmission -m" as the command in the start up window, but that doesn't seem to be working and I have no idea where the actual file resides to point to it
have a computer working 24/7, although a reboot procedure was performed and now I've no way to get transmission running, since I have no physical access to the machine. The only way I can access is throw ssh.Does any one knows any way of get it started?

Transmission is a simple BitTorrent client. It features a very simple, intuitive interface (gui and command-line) on top on an efficient, cross-platform back-end. This package contains the common files for the different transmission versions.
Changes
Changes for the versions: 1.75-0ubuntu2 1.75-0ubuntu2.2
Version 1.75-0ubuntu2.2:
* SECURITY UPDATE: fix arbitrary file overwrite via crafted torrent file - debian/patches/CVE-2010-0012.patch: adjust metainfo.c to check for '../' - CVE-2010-0012
So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.
Iam always downloading files using transmission bittorrent, the problem is my sister always keep pausing my all my downloads because it somehow slows her internet speed in her rooms computer, any way I can have a password prompted every time she pauses all my downloads in transmission?
When I try to open Transmission I get a message: "Couldn't open "/home/shai/.config/transmission/lock": Permission denied", and the only way to open it is by using gksudo.
I read on another thread that I need to delete that file, but the file doesn't exist.
I recently started using Transmission torrent client. I love it! The light weight and web interface feature is compelling. I am not able to figure out how to queue torrents.
