Ubuntu :: Syncing Tomboy Notes To Multiple Locations?

Sep 3, 2010

Is there a way to sync Tomboy notes to multiple locations? I would like to be able to sync them to my UbuntuOne account and at the same time to my local NFS server, but from the looks of it Tomboy only lets you choose one location for syncing. Maybe there's a workaround for this or something?

Ubuntu :: Where Does Tomboy Notes Store Data

Jan 30, 2010

After a prolonged absence, version 4.10, I have started dabbling with Ubuntu again. It was a HDD crashing that sent me down this path. Needless to say, the ability to backup my user data to a second HDD is an important task to me. I'm currently using Back in Time to accomplish this and all is well. However, there is one thing missing. I can't locate my Tomboy Notes data within the file system. I expected to see a "hidden" folder in my /home, but do not. Where this information is stored so I can back it up as well?

Ubuntu :: Tomboy Notes Startup In Background?

Apr 30, 2010

Is there a way to make Tomboy Notes startup in the background when Ubuntu is lunched? I added the command "tomboy --search" to startup applications and whenever Ubuntu starts, Tomboy Notes opens the [Search All Notes] window.

In the previous Ubuntu version, I used to use the Tomboy Notes applet from (Add to Panel) and it used to startup without opening any windows. This method still work on Ubuntu 10.04, but I liked the new icon for Tomboy Notes that appears in the status bar.

Is there a way I can do that?

Ubuntu :: Tomboy Notes Stored Outside Home Directory?

Jul 3, 2010

I want to store all my Tomboy notes not on the default directory but I want to put them on a shared partition (I'm dual booting Vista and Ubuntu 10.04). The scenario is that I want to keep the same notes accessible from both Vista and Ubuntu 10.04). So I created a directory on the shared partition (FAT32 partition): /media/STORAGE/Tomboy_notes and store the notes there. On its website, it says "On any operating system, you can override the location of the note directory by setting the TOMBOY_PATH environment variable" but unfortunately I don't know how to do it (I'm blind on this thing).

Ubuntu One :: Tomboy Syncs - And Promptly Deletes All My Local Notes

Jan 14, 2010

I attempted to sync Tomboy notes with Ubuntu One, the process claimed to be successful - and deleted all the notes on my computer, with no warning at all. Thankfully I had just backed things up yesterday...

I'm running Karmic, the Tomboy is version 1.0.0, and the Ubuntu One client is 1.0.2 (I think).

A little while ago I was having problems with Tomboy syncing with Ubuntu One at all. Then things worked, but I ran into problems with the program declaring that the notes online were newer than my local ones - which was certainly not the case, as I only use my Ubuntu One account with a single computer. Some of the notes were conflicting, though there were also problems with templates (probably something similar to this bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone...rs/+bug/502017).

So I deleted all the notes, manually, on the Ubuntu One site, thinking this would help. It certainly didn't help with my template problem, and now when I sync it declares "Synchronization is complete, 32 notes updated. Your notes are now up to date." - and lists all of my notes stating that they were deleted locally! And indeed they are.

If I go online and look at Ubuntu One, the notes tab simply says: "You have no notes (yet!)." I tried to see if this was recurring, and it is. Every time all my notes are deleted.

Ubuntu One :: Bookmarks And Tomboy Not Syncing, 11.04?

May 21, 2011

I've used Ubuntu one for file syncing on my work and home computer (started on 10.10 only recently upgraded to 11.04, work is XP) and while it seems a tad slow in syncing it worked okay. Though I've used alternatives because they seem more responsive.

Well I've recently upgraded to 11.04 on my comp at home and installed 11.04 on my lappy (new install). Both are 64-bit version of Ubuntu. Thought I'd start using the other sync features and see how it fairs.

Well files appear to be okay (though I haven't tested it thoroughly yet), but I cannot get firefox bookmarks or tomboy to sync at all. I've searched through the forums but it appears to be only comments about it not working, I've yet to see anyone with a solution. I've checked out .cache/ubuntuone/log and all the syncdeamon exception logs are empty. I also just threw a file into the Ubuntu One folder and it synced damn fast. so it appears the only issues is with the bookmarks and notes.

Ubuntu :: Tomboy Notes Sync To Ubuntu One With 10.04?

Nov 9, 2010

At home I run 10.10 and set it up last night to sync to Ubuntu one. I figured this would be handy since I often work in the evenings on work projects while at home. My work laptop is 10.04, and I'd prefer to keep it that way with it being an LTS and all, as stable as 10.10 seems to be.Problem is within the Tomboy preference menu I don't see a way to sync my notes to Ubuntu One. I even got the latest PPA, but no dice.

Ubuntu :: Tomboy Notes Won't Open - How To Open It

I've been using Tomboy Notes on Mac and, when I recently came over to Ubuntu, was thrilled that I could use it still. However, it quit working. I cannot open it in the Applications Menu, I can't open it via terminal (this is what I get if I try:

I can't open it at all.I don't have a .tomboy file in my /home directory, or in my /home/brasel directory. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I even cleaned out my computer via the computer janitor and it still wouldn't re-install and run.

Ubuntu :: How To Mount USB Drive To Multiple Locations

Feb 10, 2010

I have two storage drives that I will be sharing by FTP. One is internal 1TB ext4 HDD and another one is an external USB 1TB NTFS HDD. Both drives get mounted to /media and I am trying to set an additional mount point for each. For internal HDD everything works perfectly. I simply went to /etc/fstab and copied the line related to it. Now I have:

Code:
/dev/sdb5 /home/eugene/.MOUNT/sdb5 ext4 defaults 0 0
/dev/sdb5 /media/sdb5 ext4 defaults 0 0
which does exactly what I need.

I tried doing the same for the USB drive which produces unexpected results. The lines are
Code:
/dev/sdc1 /home/eugene/.MOUNT/sdc1 ntfs defaults 0 0
/dev/sdc1 /media/sdc1 ntfs defaults 0 0

This has the following results:
- in /media/Y (Y is label of this HDD) I have this HDD and can access all its contents which is good
- in /home/eugene/.MOUNT/sdc1 I don't have anything and this is bad
- in /media/sdc1 I have only one folder from this HDD and this folder is empty (on the HDD this folder is not empty) and this is somehow weird.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up At Multiple Locations

Mar 27, 2010

So I've got a home server hosting a website for my restaurant, but I'd like to get another server up to get some redundancy going.

I have another machine I'd like to set up at another location to take over retrieving requests sent for the website whenever my home server goes down. I've got my domain through [URL], but the domain is hosted through [URL] for their dynamic dns service (because im not using a static ip).

So I'm guessing having another server set up is just a matter of setting up dns records, however I don't know where to begin with setting that up. Any words of wisdom out there?

Networking :: Data Sharing Across Multiple Geographical Locations?

Mar 9, 2010

I am looking for a solution where the data to be shared across multiple locations through login. In this regard, the following options are required.

1) The files/folders created can be viewed by the group and the owner has an option to edit and delete. However, if required the owner/admin can grant permission temporarily.

2) log of files/folders being accessed

3) The access of files/folders is based on username and password.

One thing striking me is FTP Server to enable the above solution. If so, i just want a step by step guide. Otherwise, let me know any other better options.

Ubuntu :: Syncing Need To Set Up Multiple Machines?

May 4, 2010

I just installed ubuntu 10.04 x64. I have installed it and set it up the way I like on my server, however I now have 3 terminals and a laptop to set it up on the exact same way. As a result Id like some advice on what can and cant be done and how. Preferably I am looking to use programs with GUIs. Thing the style of ubuntu one, software manager etc, not really too into the command line, or conf editing unless there is no other option.

1. I installed all the software from software centre I like. Now I need the same software on the other computers. I know mint has mintbackup where it just exports and imports a list if installed software. I am looking for an ubuntu equivalent.

2. Firefox and Thunderbird add-ons. I install like 20 firefox and thunderbird add ons. sometimes I can't even keep track of them. There must be a way to sync them so that each computer I install ubuntu on I can simply import the list of mozilla add ons and have it auto download them.

3. Mail Contacts and Calender Syncing. I need to sync between my 3 ubuntu machines and my windows mobile 6.5 device for calender, email/phone/name contact lists. Email is taken care of by imap, but lightnings calender isnt and neither are the contacts. If I input a contact on my phone I want it to sync to the other computers I use.

4. Ubuntu one. I have /storage/workfolder in my root directory on my personal server. I want to be able to work on documents at work on my laptop and sync them so that when I get home, they are synced on the server without causing overwrite changes etc.

5. Desktop settings, icon themes, preferences from ubuntu tweak etc. I know this one is a bit more of a long shot, but it takes 20 minutes each computer, to set up the little maximize minimize buttons on the other side, set up cairo dock the way I like, install the icon theme and backgrounds I like. isnt there a way to back this up so it doesnt have to be done each time or so I can make my other computers the same?
