View 1 RepliesEvery since last evening, I have been trying to create a PDF zoomed at 300% using Open Office
1. Go to File > Export as PDF > Initial View Tab > Magnification > Zoom Factor: 300% > Page Layout: Continuous > OK
2. When file prints to PDF and I open it, it is at 300% zoom.
3. When I email the file to myself and open it on the same Dell machine, it is opened at 300%
4. When I email the file to myself and open it on my MacBook Air, it is opened at 100%
5. When I restart the Dell machine adn then open the file, it is opened at 100%
How do I create PDF from from Open Office such that the file is opened at 300%, whether it is opened on a Mac, or the machine is restarted and then opened.
I like text and graphics large so i've used about:config in Firefox to set both the min and max zoom level at 120%, but want to firefox start using these settings. Once opened i can press ctrl and + to jump to 120% zoom and once i'm there my settings make me stay there no matter what. What i want is for Firefox to open at these settings.

Everytime I click on Firefox, the page goes to fullscreen, but the problem is that the gym class display is not zoomed to full screen (which is what we need). there are black blank parts on both the right and the bottom of the screen. There is no shortcut key working under firefox either, which means I can't zoom the screen or even enter url for any websites.I checked the gym class website on my computer, everything looks perfect. I think there must be some setting wrong on the operating machine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to run a program, needs high graphic, suddenly my computer crashed. I had to restart it, now the resolution has changed, I mean its the same as before "1024x768" but the screen has been widened, it looks like it has been stretched, and zoomed. I changed the resolution, but it didn't help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy grandson got a little free time on my login screen. When I got back I found the right half of the screen was covered with a cascade of zoomed copies of the regular login display. Each layer of the cascade larger that the previous as one moved right across the screen. When I reboot it is still there. I have tried various hotkey combinations in the hopes that I could change this, but with no result. I have looked for files which might have such a pattern saved. I found a file /usr/share/gnome-session/session-properties.ui with a promising name and inside was a series of 'child' entries, but removing all but the first child entry changed nothing. how to fix it?

I use mousekeys for clicking/double clicking etc - this feature works great in Ubuntu, but I have recently switched to Xubuntu and MouseKeys seems to be turning itself off at random times. I haven't yet uncovered any rhyme or reason as to when or why this happens. I turn on mouse keys and at random times during computer usage mousekeys just turns off.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mom has ubuntu 8.04.2, and it does not stay connected on the wireless usb cards. I tried 2 different ones, 1 azio and 1 is something else. But both get connected, but they die out after awhile. I am at work typing this, so I will probably try to move my router up higher or something, but it is weird it cuts out like every 15-30 minutes, and it starts at like 4 bars.
She is running it out of a live DVD( I Know, you shouldnt use a DVD as your main OS) but she only needs the internet, and uses google docs to save stuff or a USB stick. Anyone know what might be the cause of this disturbance in the connection. It is a cable connection, and the main modem is in my room, and we got a netgear router( maybe the problem?). I tried the same exact system/live dvd environment at my work place and it held connection pretty good, but I believe it did disconnect a few times as well.
I am relatively new to Ubuntu, and Linux, and I am having a problem with it that I was hoping to get fixed. Whenever I try to connect to my home wi-fi network, on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting...which makes it really hard to download various things. It works just fine whenever I used "shudders" Windows Vista but whenever I try to use it on Ubuntu, it won't work properly. The router I bought, to replace my old, broken one, was Linux compatible, or at least that's what it was advertised as. The laptop is an HP G70 and the method I used to download Ubuntu was the Windows Installer.

I have Visual Effects turned off, and I've tried removing compiz altogether, but I still see this happen every once in a while.

It was just yesterday when I was using the Ubuntu Software Center, and it worked great. Today, when I open it, it closes right down within a second. If it helps, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I restarted Ubuntu, the problem still happens, anyone know what could be causing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Hughesnet (which sucks by the way, don't get it, I hate contracts). The FAP states that i can only download 375MB or it shuts me down, however, from 2 to 7 AM you can download all you want. so naturally i use a download scheduler. The only problem is that at night when i shut my laptop lid it disconnects from my router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that switching to Ubuntu about 6 months ago has made it noticeably more difficult to use the free wifi at my school. When I had Windows 7 on the same laptop, it was much easier to establish and maintain a connection. I know it's not the hardware. My question is: is there some security setting that makes it difficult to use public wifi on Ubuntu? Also, I don't have this problem at home on my WPA2 home wifi network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had ubuntu installed for a bit now and I want to start using it as my main OS, but the wireless internet will not stay connected. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've found that Abiword, which I prefer to Libre Office, when minimised does not remain arrowed on the launcher in 11.04, so it effectively can't be minimised. Can it be made to do this? I've clicked a few icons on the launcher like Brasero's and Synaptic's and found that they still all behave properly but I'm guessing there are other programs that have the Abiword glitch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Squeeze on my laptop. All was fine (except for a small change I needed to make to the GRUB code in order to install and boot it) and I find the OS easy to use. I am sure I will be using it for a long time! I might even change my desktop over to Squeeze as well - I'm using Linux Mint 10 at the moment.I have found just one minor problem: the battery icon continuously shows 100% full, even when the indicator on the laptop is showing that it needs recharging - after about two hours' use. This has not happened before:although the laptop is about two years' old, I have had this battery for only a month, so it has not yet done much work!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm getting increasingly aggravated with tis so I figured I would ask and see if there are any insights on this.
I'm currently running F12 on a Dell XPS m1330 laptop. Everything is going great with the exception of pulseaudio. Rather than using the internal mic and speakers I'm using external (usb) Bose companion speakers and and external mic that is integrated into my Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam.
Now, when these work, they're spot on. No issues at all. HOWEVER, pulseaudio frequently disregards them and tries to use something else (the internals) or just stops using them. Nothing crashes, nothings broken, they just get "deselected". This happens when I back out of a game or program, log out and login, etc. I then have to jump through a series of hoops to get it configured back for the "correct" setup.
I recently installed 8.1, the Gnome Classic DE isn't anything near worth using now. What happened to The Gnome Classic that I know and love? I don't mind MATE too much, if only the applets I put in the panel would stay put between logins instead of manifesting wherever The OS decides IT wants them instead of where I placed and locked them.
I'm looking for a way to get back the Gnome Classic I know and love from Wheezy (first choice), or get the applets in MATE to stay where I put them (second choice).
On my fresh installed 11.4: I boot the desktop entry in GRUB, and it's doing a fast boot. It loads INIT and switchs to runlevel 7. Then the comment:
Code: init: No more processes left
Or something like that. after a CTRL+ALT+DEL and a press on enter during the driver load, it all works fine. Is that just a standard fault, or should I do something? If so, what?
i want to install a software in my linux machine staying in another user that i have created .It is asking for root access for some command to be execute during installation process.when I am trying to execute "sudo -s" its showing " is not in the sudoers file. View 3 Replies View RelatedI can connect to my school's wireless network using the standard network manager, but often (not always) it repeatedly disconnects and reconnects every few minutes. Occasionally it also prompts me for the security information again (even after it previously connected successfully).
By running iwconfig when it's on the fritz, I can see that it's often switching access points for the network - which is what I think is causing the problem. It disconnects and reconnects even when the signal strength for the current AP is fine, and it will often switch to an AP with a weaker signal strength.

When I set up Twin View in the nVidia config tool (as either a regular user or as root), it only lasts until I log out and log back in (i.e. restart x) or until I restart the machine. In either case once I get to the log in splash screen again, it is only operating on one monitor, and when I log in I have to reconfigure in order to get Twin View back. How can I get the configuration to stay?
More info below:
I just installed opensuse 11.2 on an AMD 64 bit 3800. It has an nVidia GeForce 7600 GS card. I installed the nVidia driver no problem and can access the nVidia config app as a regular user or as root. Both access via KDE run level 5. That is, in a GUI desktop environment. I set up Twin View fine (it is kind of clunky process, but it does recognize my monitor resolutions fine) and click apply and I get the twin view I want. I clicked on save x config but all it does is bring up a file save dialog with a 'browse' button. Isn't this supposed to automatically know where the X config file is and update it? If it isn't, what file am I supposed to look for to save over? I looked in /etc/X11 and only found the following files:
./rstart/config
./xdm/xdm-config
./xdm/SuSEconfig.xdm
./fs/config
./proxymngr/pmconfig
Older machine here that I upgraded to 10.04 after a clean install of 9.10 some months ago. When booting into GNOME, the desktop image flashes on the screen and the second the bars on top and bottom try to appear the system boots out of the desktop and returns to the log on screen. I assume this is a crash of Xserver, but just guessing. Per another page I ran: lspci | grep VGAand returned:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. KM400/KN400/P4M800 [S3 UniChrome] (rev 01)
I know - old machine Typing this from failsafe mode, would be great to hear from someone as to what I can do to get this working in normal mode again.
When i logged into a gnome desktop i got this message: "The GNOME session manager was unable to read file:'/home/(desktop name)/ICEauthority'. If this file exists it must be readable by you for GNOME to work properly. try logging in with failsafe session and removing the file." What commands do i use for that? or do i need to do something else?

Is there a way to do some troublshooting? Also transfer to USB sticks is very slow - sometimes as slow as 1MB per min. Is this normal with Ubuntu?
