Ubuntu :: Startup Splash Res Fail

Apr 10, 2011

So I installed my ATI graphics driver in Ubuntu 10.10, and it took my pretty startup splash logo away. I tweaked around with this and I got the splash back, but it's big, and terrible res.

Ubuntu :: Splash Screen Startup - Goes Blank For A Minute Then Briefly Shows The Splash For 5-10 Seconds

Mar 26, 2011

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu, and on the start-up after I pass the GRUB it goes blank for a minute then briefly shows the splash for 5-10 secs and then jumps to the login screen. Also the screen is offset by about 10-15 pixels but from the login screen onwards it is centred. (It's also like this for if I'm in recovery mode)
How do I fix this and Im wondering if it is a hardware problem?

Ubuntu :: Killed Plymouth Startup Splash?

May 22, 2011

Fooling around with trying to edit splash themes, and in trying to apply one, I broke the startup splash. The shutdown splash still works. I know that update-initramfs -u is supposed to fix this, but it hasn't. I run dpkg-reconfigure plymouth, and it gives me the list of themes; I can pick one, and it seems to do its thing; I run update-initramfs -u, and that looks like it worked too; but then I reboot, and the shutdown splash is unchanged, and the startup splash is just a black screen until GDM loads. It's as if I hadn't changed anything.

Ubuntu :: Startup Splash Gone Bung - Lower Resolution

Sep 17, 2010

This is some thing that I've noticed with any install of Ubuntu whether its regular Ubuntu or Kubuntu etc. The splash that comes up with the distro name Ubuntu/Kubuntu on start up look perfectly fine and as it should until I've installed my Nvidia drivers. then it goes all bung.

Lower Resolution. Slightly different colouring and Not taking up the whole screen. Sometimes it even sits slightly to the right.

Is there a way that I can fix this? I know its nothing all that major but it would be nice if it looked as its meant to.

Ubuntu :: Boot Splash - No GDM Startup On Vty7 / Resolve It?

Dec 14, 2010

I've seen similar posts but nothing that's been able to solve my issue.

System
Linux qbit 2.6.35-23-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 24 11:55:36 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Desktop
Gnome

Issue
Upon boot I can see the Ubuntu splash with the 6 white progress dots. No GDM or X11 session is started automatically with the progress screen simply remaining on display.

Temporary Solution
Stop GDM on vty7 and start it on vty1 or anywhere else for that matter - just not vty7 as this won't work. code...

Ubuntu :: Splash Startup Screen Flickers And Crashes?

Dec 27, 2010

I'm running a dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I have them both partitioned on a 1TB drive and I also have 2 250gb internal hd's hooked up. So starting maybe yesterday, I was noticing that Win7 started crashing for absolutely no reason whatsoever where it freezes and the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. Today I did a system restore because I was tinkering in the registry so I thought that could have been the issue. Crashed once since. But runs longer. I also checked the event log and doesn't divulge anything explaining the system crash.

And just now, I tried booting up Ubuntu and after grub, the purple splash screen flickers back and forth to the text based terminal startup. All I could make out once was "could not read partition table." that was really the only significant thing I could make out. It flickers too quickly for me to really catch what its saying.

Ubuntu :: Mediatomb Startup Fail?

May 4, 2010

Question 1: whenever I boot the Linux machine I recently put together I see "ok" on all the startup items except Mediatomb. It always reads: "Starting upnp media server mediatomb [fail]."So I run it myself via sudo /etc/init.d/mediatomb startIn the mediatomb default file NO_START is set to "no," hence why it tries. But why does it fail? The guide I followed to install it intended for it to run at startup, but it just fails.Question 2: When I manually start mediatomb, and I later access it on another machine via the browser, it's all good. But on the monitor of the linux machine the command line goes bye-bye. It's just a cursor, and commands don't execute. Is there a keyboard combo like ctrl+alt+f-something that brings it back?

Ubuntu :: Changing The Kubuntu Boot Splash Theme At Startup?

Jul 22, 2010

I recently installed kubuntu-kde and it changed the boot splash theme from an orange logo on a purple background to tourqoise on blue. How do I change it back?

In KDE, I can navigate to Settings > System Settings > Appearance > Splash Screen but that's not what i'm looking for. I'm not trying to change KDE's Splash Screen that shows when you load the KDE window manager after logging in as a user. Further, I'm not trying to change grub's boot splash image, which renders this guide useless.

I want to change the boot splash theme which lasts 25 seconds that is shown between the time your select the kernel in grub2 and the time gdm loads. Right now it says "Kubuntu" in an ugly way and I want to change it back to what it was originally before I installed KDE. I want it to say "Ubuntu" as it should by default.

Ubuntu :: After Adding 'killall Gnome-panel' To The Startup Applications Does The Panel Fail To Load Altogether

Dec 4, 2010

Regarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.

Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.

I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.

Ubuntu :: Reset All Personalization Such As Splash Screen And Colors In Grub Splash To Default?

Apr 25, 2010

If I re-install Grub 2 from the live CD should that reset all the personalisations such as as splash screen and colours in the Grub splash to default? In my case they are not resetting. I would expect them to revert to the default black/white you get when initially installing the OS. the Grub timeout to be a lot less than its supposed to be? e.g. the default timeout setting of 5 seconds is more like 2 or 3 in reality, and when I set my prefered value to 2 seconds it results in being about 1/4 sec or so.

Ubuntu :: No Splash Screen / Why Is So?

Jun 1, 2010

I installed 10.04 on my Toshiba laptop, but for some reason there is no violet splash screen with the "Ubuntu" word when the system is loading. Instead there is a bald dash in the upper left corner that keeps blinking and then it is changed by regular font dash, then there are some letters (like system is checking something?) and that's it, one second after my desktop welcomes me. What could be the problem? I feel like I haven't had such a problem when I was installing it on another computer. Though it might be because I am installing from USB drive, but not, installed from CD with the image recorded and still the same problem.

Ubuntu :: Getting Rid Of KDE Cursors And KDE Splash Screen?

May 3, 2010

Some time ago I installed KDE on my machine, though I use gnome as the default. (I rarely login on KDE) .Since then, when I login in my default gnome I get those futuristic KDE cursors, which I hate by the way. I've been trying to go back to my default cursors but I've had no success. I go to System -> Appearance -> Customize -> Pointer and then I select Default Pointer or even DMZ (white) I click on close twice and nothing happens. I've even removed the "oxygen-cursor-theme" using the package manager. How can I get my default mouse cursors back?

On the same note, before I get the login screen and after clicking on logout/restart I get a Kubuntu blue (splash?) screen, I'd prefer not to get this screen. how to get rid of this, too? (Getting rid of the cursors would be most important, but if I can get rid of this screen it'd be nice, too)

I had one problem through, is that when I boot my computer, there is no splash shown. After the GRUB menu, all I see is a black terminal with no text for some time, and then a quick view of some colored text. Does anyone else have this problem? Here is the appropriate section of the grub.cfg file:

Code:

Ubuntu :: No Plymouth Splash Screen On 10.04?

Jul 1, 2010

I just installed Kubuntu 10.04 on my Desktop computer. Prior to KDM loading, all I get is a blank, black screen with no Plymouth splash screen. I'm confident that this issue is not related to KDE but would apply to all Ubuntu variants. Here are my computer specs:

Kubuntu 10.04 x64 running with all updates
Dell Studio Desktop
Intel Quad-Core Processor 2.66Ghz
8GB ram
Intel Integrated Graphics

I should note that I have full desktop effects running smoothly under KDE with compositing enabled, so my integrated graphics is not necessarily the problem unless Plymouth is not loading the graphics drivers successfully.
