how can I change the text in the Squid Proxy Authentication Dialog Box...? I would like to change the text "The proxy localhost:3128 is requesting a username and password. The site says: "Squid Proxy Caching Server". Is there a file or a configuration to change the text?
View 4 RepliesOn 8.04 when I connect to the internet for work, it normally asks me for proxy authentication. When I type in the correct credentials, it allows me access to the web. For some reason, when I use 10.04 to access the web via firefox or chromium, I do not get the proxy authentication dialog box, so I cannot access the web.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Linux and very new to Squid and am having authentication issues! I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux (which is basically Red Hat without the branding) and wanting to use Squid Proxy Server for web access with authentication to Active Directory. I've found a number of articles about this online and all of them say to use auth program squid_ldap_conf which should be in /usr/lib/squid/. I don't have a squid directory in /usr/lib for starters and my squid binaries are in /etc/squid but there is no squid_ldap_conf in there either. I have installed the latest version of Squid (3.0) to see if that helped but I still cannot find the authorisation program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my HP Mini 210, and is having a problemth authentication dialogs when applications requests for elevated permissions. As far as I concern, there are two types of them, one is the kind when you run anything with gksu where the background dims and a dialog pops up. Another type is when you try toinstall software through Synaptic and a dialog box requests for your password. I am having problems with the later one.
Whenever the authentication dialog box pops up, after typing my password and presses enter, or the Authenticate button, the password field disappears while leaving the authentication dialog on the screen. The Authenticate and Cancel buttons are still clickable, but they are not bringing any actions by clicking them. I would have to let the application to continue with elevated permissions by manually closing the dialog. There are very very rareoccasions where the dialog disappears after I click on authenticate, which I can say is 1 in every 100 times
Since I updated to 9.10 I've had 2 problems with display.(1) The notification bubble is blacked out.System notifications,IM notifications, network notifications...none are visible. (2) Some dialog boxes (not just OO) have unreadable text. It happens for OO every time. (I am running an older IBM Thinkpad with a 1.8 MHz CPU and 1GHz of ram.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with Adobe AIR, which I use to run Tweetdeck. It keeps on asking me to authenticate for my proxy server - every time Tweetdeck tries to load someone's avatar, for instance, which is making it pretty unusable right now.
I'm not sure why it's doing this, other than that I've just upgraded to 9.10 (well, to Mint 8, actually, but I would think the issue is the same). I've got all my proxy settings working, and indeed AIR seems to be able to read the settings from somewhere (it autocompletes the authenticate box with the correct details), but it just doesn't seem to be able to authenticate once and then be done with it, like it had done previously.
when i use the terminal, and i run "sudo apt-get update", there is a notification which says, "407 proxy authentication required". i use the internet of our school which requires its users to log into its proxy server so that the user can have access to the internet. the problem is i cannot run update or install commands through the terminal, though i can connect to the internet through firefox.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi want to setup squid proxy server at my home. my service provider has ISA server install on its machine. in windows as a client we have to enter proxy settings manually to IE and firefox. but now in squid where i have to define to use this proxy settings. and what about /etc/resolv.conf . my service provider's connection settings are stated as under.:
IP ADDR= 192.168.1.x
subnet mask=255.255.255.0
Proxy= 192.168.1.1 port= 8080

What could be the problem? I can SSH normally into the computer, but not into the proxy server. Do I need to forward the 8080 port on that network?

Each time, I login to YM application, the squid proxy popups many authentication windows. These confuse users when they you YM. i have a working squid ncsa authentication. i have this in my squid.conf

this setup makes squid authenticate both the employees and admin network. how can i make squid just authenticate only the employees network? admin network should connect to squid without authentication.
If users are a memebr of a certain AD group, they are granted access to the web. I have this working but there is a glitch. I have to restart squid everytime I add or remove a user from the active directory group for the change to kick in. I could set up cron to restart squid every x amount of minutes but that is no good. see settings

I would like to configure Squid and DansGuardian that way, that it's a Proxy with Authentication via Website. That means: A new Notebook gets about DHCP the Network-Information like IP-Adress etc.. When he now tries to open a Internet connection it should check if he's authenticated and if not he should get (if this try is from a browser) a login screen in http. It should also not be possible to have internetconnection without being logged in. The clients are Windoze, Mac and Linux. My question now. What programms/deamons are there for doing this authentication. Would you decide for another Programm instead of Squid?

So far I have the machine authenticating against our OS X OpenLDAP server and multiple NIC's setup ready to be connected to the outside world. My question is does anyone have a preference on what proxy I should be using? So far my search efforts seem to of turned up Squid Proxy as a favorite among Ubuntu users but I can't seem to work out how to get it authenticating against my OpenLDAP server.
