That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
My firefox can't auto install java runtime evnviroment. I have try manual download at http://java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp?locale=en&host=java.com (Linux x64), and I have set up it follow intruction. But it is not effect. The host OS is 32bit Lucid Lynx desktop, and virtualbox works fine with a Win7 guest. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
I'd like to upgrade libssl to 0.9.8l version on my Lucid-based server, because of CVE-2009-3555 - they say that 0.9.8l disables SSL renegotiation, fixing the security issue. But there is no 0.9.8l in Ubuntu repositories - only 0.9.8k-7 is available. how can I upgrade this library? BTW. it is really strange why such significant security fix is not available in Ubuntu repositories. why it is not available?

Installed OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime and OpenJDK Java 6 Webstart from Ubuntu Software Center but no Java showed up in Firefox's about:plugins.After searching for hours in numerous forums (mostly dealing with sun-java) I got the idea that the web-browser plugin could be missing. View 2 Replies View RelatedIf you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.

I just installed Firefox 3.7 from the Mozilla Daily PPA and thats the only thing currently not showing up.
I downloaded Firefox 3.6 from the Mozilla website, and installed Java Runtime and Java Browser Plugin from Ubuntu Software Center, but Java will not work within Firefox, it works with Firefox 3.5.7 installed from the repositories, but I really want to use Firefox 3.6. I've even tried UbuntuZilla, without any success. This is annoying as I visit a lot of Java enabled websites.

Right now I'm running Firefox 3.6.4. In ~/.mozilla/plugins I have a link to the Java plugin. I'm using Java version 6 update 20.
For some reason, Firefox will not acknowledge that I have the Java plugin installed. It won't show up under Add-ons > Plugins, and if I go to a web page that requires Java, it says I don't have it installed.
I've even moved my ~/.mozilla/firefox directory, allowing Firefox to create a new empty preferences directory, and Java still won't show up.
However, Java shows up just fine in Firefox 3.5. How do I get Java enabled?
