Ubuntu Servers :: Setup Email Alerts For SVN Server

Jul 21, 2010

I recently setup a server running subversion. It is working well and all, but I am curious as to how to make it send out email alerts to my team when a commit occurs.Also, are their any good GUI tools to manage a subversion server in Ubuntu. The command line is fine since I made some scripts but a nice GUI would be great! Maybe that could be a fun project to work on.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setup E-mail To Alerts For When Something Goes Down

Jan 21, 2010

I have a server running ubuntu 8.10. I have monitoring software to monitor cerain devices on our LAN & WAN. However I need to set up e-mail on the server to mail me alerts for when something goes down. However this is where the problem comes in. I have never set up any mail clients on ubuntu server and am also not sure which one to use in this case. I have done some reading on squirrel mail and fetchmail. I am also aware there is roundcube and a few others available.

Here's my scenario: We have a mail server located off site. We use XP with Outlook on all our work machines. Outlook connects to the mail server using https with basic ntlm auth. So what I am trying to do is set up mail software to allow my server to send me an e-mail (using the above mail server) to my mail address so I get a mail whenever there's a problem with any of the devices being monitored.

Server :: Implement Email Alerts On Backup Scripts

Apr 28, 2011

I have recently been asked by my boss to implement Email alerts on some Backup scripts to be sent to me and another person. I edited one of the Backup scripts on a mail server and they appear to be working without problems (i.e., the backup job runs successfully and I get told so via E-Mail). However, when I implemented this script onto another, non-mail server, it would not send E-Mail confirmations. The only server that is allowed to send Emails to the outside world is the mail server, so I did not expect the script to work without any fine-tuning.

However, I thought I could direct the non-mail server to send an E-Mail through the mail server. I just can't find out how to do it. The servers are running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. The mail server is using postfix and dovecot for email, and is also the DNS server for that particular network section. The non-mail server should be installed with the default server install (exim4). If possible, I do not want to install any new programs on either server. How to get the non-mail server to use the mail server to send out E-Mails?

The new email server will replace the primary one.I would like to setup the new email server in parallel with the existing one.This way i can observe issues that might occur and be aware of what could go wrong. I want to received mail to be delivered to both mail servers at the same time.I would like to use postfix, exim i find a bit to difficult to understand.I have thought of using transport maps, the only problem is that you can only forward mail to one server at a time using transport maps.I think recipient_bcc_maps and sender_bcc_maps could work, i would just like ideas of how i can do this.

Ubuntu Servers :: HTML PHP Email Configuration / Squirrelmail Setup

Sep 1, 2011

I'm having problems with emails containing HTML content. When Google downloads the email messages via POP3 from my squirrelmail server, the message does not display using HTML. I'm not sure if this is Google's fault or Squirrelmail's fault, but I've never had problems before on other servers running the same script and using squirrelmail. If I login to squirrelmail, I have the option to download the email message as an attachment. The attachment, if opened by my local browser, shows up as HTML content, and it is properly formatted. However, I'm using Google to download my emails and file them under my Gmail account. After Gmail downloads the messages, it shows up like this:

From
To admin@domainRemoved.com
Date Sat, Jul 30, 2011 at 6:07 PM
Subject Pending Registration

Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
From: Name Removed <admin@domainRemoved.com>
Message-Id: <20110730234302.6B6FEDC08BA@eric-desktop>
Date: Sat, 30 Jul 2011 17:43:02 -0600 (MDT)

<p><b> After registering your client via your server, please visit the following URL to send them confirmation: </b></p>

I really need it to show up properly once Gmail downloads the messages, as it takes a long time to login to Squirrel mail and download each message as an attachment. My PHP Code Headers Look like this:
$headers = 'MIME-Version: 1.0' . " ";
$headers .= 'Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' . " ";
$headers .= "From: $uname <$email>";

Someone suggested that I remove the from my script. I did, and now the email shows a from sender as www-data www-data@domain.com. Before, the from field showed up as empty. However, my PHP script is designed to change the sender's information to the clients that contact me. Thus, if customer A contacts me, the email should be from customer A <custa@whatever.com>. However, it's not being changed by the PHP script. It works on every other server but mine. I think my postfix configuration isn't setup properly? What needs to be configured on it?

Ubuntu Servers :: Setup Postfix To Relay Email It Cannot Deliver Locally?

Jul 17, 2011

I'm trying to setup postfix (or exim, I don't mind which), so I can move away my last remaining PC from Windows.I've tinkered with Postfix for good part of a month and I can get it to accept emails using SMTP and post them to a virtual mailbox based on MySQL tables. And it rejects mail addressed to local email addresses that it can't find in the table.

First question (or problem.) I've set up Postfix to relay email it cannot deliver locally such as is the case when you send out an email. My remote host requires authentication. How can I set this up?

Second question: I want to force my clients to use either AUTH, TLS or SSL, and not allow anonymous connections (to prevent an open relay server.) How do I set that up without interfering with the smarthost setting? The smarthost login is not one of my clients, it's a pre-determined login and password that is solely used for the email relaying aspect.

Ubuntu Servers :: Buying Domain / Hosting Web Server / All Domain Registers Come With Email Or Just Email Forwarding?

CentOS 5 Server :: Email Server Setup Using Sendmail And Dovecot?

Apr 24, 2009

I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.

The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

Networking :: Setup 2 Gateway For Email Server

May 11, 2010

setup 2 gateway in my email server(opensuse).

now i wan to setup 2 internet lines for my email server, which mean that either one of the line is down, i still can receive mail from another line.

Example
Internet line 1 = ISP1
Internet line 2 = ISP2

my email server got 3 nic which...

eth0 = 192.168.1.2 (255.255.255.0) (from ISP1 GW 192.168.1.1)
eth1 = 192.168.2.2 (255.255.255.0) (from ISP2 GW 192.168..2.1)
eth2 = 168.168.1.2 (255.255.0.0) (connect to local LAN)

now existing GW set on the server is 192.168.1.1, mail receive and send through ISP1. now we wish to set somethings that once the ISP1 line is down, the server will auto switch to ISP2 gateway and continue send and receive mail without manually change of settings

Server :: Postfix Setup - Make Own Email Addresses

May 14, 2011

It wasn't too long ago that I discovered Linux/Ubuntu (in terms of actually USING it) and I've been completely blown away by the capabilities it puts in the user's hands! To think that someone can take an old desktop from a trash pile (literally, in my case) and turn it into a web server for ZERO dollars is absolutely crazy.

Anyway, I've been using said desktop as a sort of "dummy" machine to learn Linux. I want to be clear that I've got another computer for personal use and that I understand that setting up server software on any computer poses a security risk. Having said that, I have a few questions regarding mail servers and their setup on Ubuntu. Again - I'm comfortable with what I've done so far in Ubuntu (installing packages, terminal interaction, basic usage)

My question is mainly this: if you have, say, a domain name through DynDNS (let's say example123.com) and it points to an Ubuntu system, does something like Postfix enable you to make your own email addresses such as user1@example123.com and have an email server from wherever the Ubuntu system is?

I've been following the basic Postfix setup here and have had success so far (down to the "Adding your local domains to postfix" section) bu wanted to make sure that what I'm intending to do is what I'm doing (haha... i hope that makes sense). That is: get domain name at DynDNS, host pages on LAMPP server, use Postfix to facilitate incoming/outgoing email for that domain name.

Fedora Servers :: Setting Up An Email Server?

I will be getting an old and decrepit laptop (the PS2 channel went out). I have decided that I would like to set it up to be an email and minor data server. The only problem exists that I have never setup a server, yet alone a linux server before.

I want the server to allow user authenticated access to a certain folder on the machine where other clients can go and copy and paste files for the data server portions and I want it to download emails from multiple domains (Gmail, a Microsoft Exchange Server, and from a private domain) and then allow other clients to log in and download those messages (I would like to keep each domain's emails separate so the client has to specify which domain's emails to download).

The number of failures changes every night, but most of the time it is between 20 and 30 of my servers.
