Ubuntu Security :: Generating Numeric Dictionary For Wpa?

Jul 18, 2010

i just got a new internet connection from the local service provider. While installation, he insisted that i use my mobile number as the wpa password for the wifi. From what Ive heard, this is company policy. Im a little skeptical about this as ive read wpa is crackable using a dictionary if the password is in there. So i looked around and found the air-crack suite to test the security for my access point. As my password is only numeric, i couldn't find only a numeric dictionary to use with air-crack.

So, i would like to create a dictionary that has only 10 digits, and the first two digit should be "05", because thats what mobile numbers here start from. I would be really grateful if anyone could point me to a way to do this easily.

Security :: Generating A Key Compatible With PGP?

Jun 24, 2010

I am currently using [URL] to send and receive faxes at work. I need the faxes to be encrypted. They offer public key encryption with PGP 9.8.2 They just need my public key to be compatible with their PGP version. I found a few statements at the GPG site, which may not be true for newer versions of gpg: PGP, Inc. refuses to accept Elgamal keys of type 20 even for encryption.They only support type 16.PGP 5.x does not accept v4 signatures for data material but OpenPGP requests generation of v4 signatures for all kind of data, that's why GnuPG defaults to them. By default, GnuPG encrypts your secret key using the Blowfish symmetric algorithm. Older PGPs will only understand 3DES, CAST5, or IDEA symmetric algorithms. PGP doesn't do Elgamal signing keys at all, so they are not usable with any version. I attempt to avoid using trial and error here, because an incompatible key may provoke loss of crucial information. It is difficult to estimate how long it would take them/me to find out that the key provided was not compatible; but probably it would entail a significant loss for the business.

Security :: Looking For Documentation For Generating Certificates

May 10, 2011

Is there a guide somewhere that covers all the security module topics for Linux, somewhat from top to bottom. Such as LDAP TLS RSA secure auth... generating certs etc etc. All of it and how it all ties together. Sure I can find you should use this etc., or guides that don't explain much or how they work together to complete the sweet. TLD seems to suffer from the same thing that I just stated...

Fedora Security :: SELinux Macro Expansions Generating Numbers?

Mar 28, 2009

I have gotten over my inability to add SELinux users and am trying to write an SELinux module on my Fedora 10 machine, standard SELinux distribution. Most of it works just fine, but I've been having strange troubles with some policy interfaces--m4 expands them to numbers rather than valid SELinux policy language. Here's what I'm getting:

seutil_read_config($1_t) ---> 679
seutil_read_src_policy($1_t) ---> 1021
files_search_etc($1_t) ---> 1875

As far as I know all of these are valid policy interfaces (I've checked them up in their respective files, and they do exist and contain what appears to be valid policy). The last one I know because I went into seutil_read_src_policy and put its contents into the module rather than the macro itself. Now, I could do the same with files_search_etc, but really I'd like the top-level macro to just work. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I'm certain I'm using correct syntax, unless there's a whitespace rule I'm not familiar with.

A secondary problem I have, generating warnings rather than errors, is that for some reason ' s are popping up in my expanded module, right after the end of expansions of some (but not all) macros that I've defined.

Fedora Security :: Generating Password Hashes Compatible With FC11/sha-512 Shadow File?

Jul 3, 2009

I've been trying to write php or perl code to generate the sha-512 password hashes in fedora. I've been unable to do the hashing which is encoded in the shadow file on fedora core 11. Does anyone have php or perl code which provides the hashing algorithm. (All of my attempts result in the encrypted hashing being longer than 86 character -- the length that crypt says the sha-512 should be)

Ubuntu Security :: SSL Cert And CSR - Generating An HTTPS Cert For Apache And / Or Mail Access?

Aug 9, 2011

I'm about to create a CSR and was reading this page in the Ubuntu docs: [URL] A couple of things:

* There's no date on the article. The documentation needs DATES because this information gets out of date! Check MySQL docs, for instance -- they are organized by version.
* The instructions for generating a cert only specify 2048 bits. I believe that's kind of out of date? The verisign site has big red warnings saying you need 2048 if you want your cert to last past 2013 -- and that article is 4 years old!
* The instructions are confusing when discussing the passphrase. We enter a passphrase only to remove it immediately. We need some clarity here. Why do this?

How to understand the current best practices for generating an HTTPS cert for apache and/or mail access?

Ubuntu :: Shift-Insert On A Numeric Pad From Vmware?

Jun 24, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu installed on a vmware virtual machine and everything worked find except accessing Shift-Insert (Shift-0 on the numeric pad) in VMware console window (Windows XP). I'm one of those who used to using Shift-Ins and Ctrl-Ins for clipboard and Insert is where 0 on the numeric pad (Num-Lock is off). With this configuration any Shift-Numeric keys give numbers (as if NumLock was on)

What I noticed:

- The problem is not present if I use TightVNC for Windows for remote access (works as expected)
- The problem doesn't go out if I install open-vm-tools (installed with apt-get install --no-install-recommends open-vm-tools

- Vmware console works correctly if the system installed on a virtual machine is Windows

This happened out of nowhere when I was just setting up an access point. No idea what I did wrong, cause I only configured a static IP Reboot, and numpad was gone. I tried restarting the laptop, I tried disabling and enabling Numlock over and over again. Nothing works.

I'm trying to understand the entire method of cracking a wireless network using aircrack.I thought the idea is to collect a lot of encrypted packets, and then try to crack these using the fact that the IV's used to encrypt a packet are not always different from each other.ight?ck-ng to be able to crack a WPA with a pre-shared-key.But what is the point of using a dictionary? If you use that, why would you bother collecting packets? Using a dictionary is basically guessing the encryption-key isn't it?

Ubuntu :: Gnome-dictionary Not Working?

Oct 24, 2010

I recently discovered that I could not get gnome-dictionary to perform word look-up on ANY of my Ubuntu systems. I discovered that the problem is not with the app at all, but with the default source; dict.org has stopped functioning as gnome-dictionary expects (and trying to get to the web site just brings up a blank web page; page source is empty). One of the threads I saw in my search provided a different source that is working. It is not as extensive as dict.org's service, but it does work.

Open the Dictionary app, then open the Preferences dialog.

Go to the "Sources" Tab and click on the "Add" button.

In the dialog that opens, change the Description to "Chemnitz Server" (at least this is what I did).

Change the hostname to "dict.tu-chemnitz.de".

I did not mess with the other options.

Once you have done this you can click the "Close" button in that dialog.

In the remaining dialog, you will see a new option for "Chemnitz Server".

Select that, and you will have a working dictionary.

dict.org can soon be returned to its proper functionality.

Ubuntu :: Rar Crack Dictionary Script?

Mar 8, 2011

Before anybody says it, no, I am not doing anything illegal. I have a problem. I have about 50 rar and zip files. Each of them are locked with one of four passwords. I know the passwords, but I don't know which password is for which archive. Since this is a repetitive task that I will have to do again in the future, I want to write a script (or find one) that will try each of the four passwords for all of the .rar or .zip files in a directory.

I believe the technical term for this is "dictionary attack" - however, my dictionary would only contain 4 words. I know some rudimentary Python. Would it be best to use Python for this or would Bash (which I don't know at all) be more suitable. Does anybody know of a script/app that already does this? I am not interested in bruteforce solutions.

Software :: Updated Dictionary For Ubuntu 10.0.4?

Oct 25, 2010

I have a strange question (maybe not a strange question for some people though). I am currently running ubuntu 10.0.4 on my notebook and have noticed that when I am typing up documents, emails, the spell check gives me a lot of red markings indicating that the spelling is incorrect. I have done some tests and it seems that a lot of words (even some well known words which I have confirmed the spelling) does not seem to be included in the standard dictionary.

This causes the applications to think that the words are incorrect and to make some strange suggestions as to what it thinks the words should be. Does anybody know if there is a later version of these dictionaries and if so how to install them?

Ubuntu :: Numeric Keypad Controls Mouse - No Digit Input

May 21, 2010

I've noticed a bit of a problem here in the last few days...after some point, my numeric keypad stops being a numeric keypad; instead, it controls the mouse (5 right clicks, and the outer keys move the cursor in the appropriate direction). It doesn't appear to happen on boot, as I generally type the numeric bits of my password with the keypad, but some point after. The only common events I can think of where this has occurred is either after connecting to the system via SSH, or after swapping to tty1 (which usually requires re-enabling of numberlock for the terminal to recognize digits, again for the password). No matter what state the NumLock is in (off or on) at this point, the keypad fails to function as a keypad.
