I have a problem accessing SMB shares in ubuntu 9.10. It worked fine before until I created a symbolic link and deleted it. Now the SMB share shows as empty or says "it has no been mounted" when I use "connect to server" to access it. oddly enough I can enter folder names and the contents do show but when I try to delete something there I get There was an error deleting "No such file or directory"
View 1 RepliesI've been using ubuntu earlier and when connecting to a samba shared folder it appeared in /home/user/.gvfs folder. I can browse the samba share, it's ok, but I prefer Midnight Commander than Nautilus when copying files. So, where does it reside in Debian?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am baffled by fedora's feeble attempts to work with Samba. I have ran various versions of Fedora for the last few years, and sporadically, the Samba gui and samba itself have had such problems. My current problem in Fedora 11 (64bit) is that samba doesn't seem to be running correctly. It is allowing the hosting of shares, but it does not show that it is running in the services gui. It shows enabled, but when I attempt to change it by starting or stopping, nothing happens. The samba gui also shows that it launches but then never actually starts. I saw very similar problems with Fedora 9.

When I move something to Trash it doesn't show the option of "Empty Trash". I can use "move to Trash" and it just moving there like some ordinary folder, but shift+del give me an option for deleting the files. Using OpenSUSE 11.3 32bit.

If I try smb://server, it doesn't show any shares, but I can browse directly to it such as smb://server/share1. If I use smbclient, it returns the list of shares correctly. I guess I just don't understand why smbclient shows the list of shared folders, but nautilus cannot.

I have practiced a lot in my home laptop without RHEL training, Cleared RHCE and LPIC1. I want to do some advanced system admin tasks, but do not have option in my current data centre. With Above skills is it possible to get a job ?
I am giving 10.04RC a try instead of Windows 7, so far so good. I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?

Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

Tried adding lightening, but it won't add into thunderbird.
Will try finding a diff add on, or if anyone knows how to get lightening into thunderbird 3.1.8 on ubuntu 10 that would be great as well.
Just installed Ubuntu.I right-clicked the bar on the bottom right where the 4 screens were and picked properties, it gave me an error and now there is nothing on the bar but the trash can. No programs and no multiple screens.

Every program or method I've used to mount it seems to mount it successfully. My problem is, that when I go to open the mounted ISO image, the folder is empty and nothing comes up. Even when I go to rightclick > Properties,it displays the contents as nothing.

Look at the screenshot, I have only one file in trash but AWN and Docky counts 47+1 items. When it's empty it counts 47, and there's no way to really empty. But files are really gone. It doesn't happens with Cairo Dock (I don't know why).

I immediately removed windows 7 started, and installed UNR 10.04.It has a 250GB hard drive, which I decided to partition, so that I can keep all my stuff on the new partition, and then a fresh format or install of the OS would be easier.After struggling to take ownership of my own damn partition after creating it and mounting it, I discovered a rather interesting problem. I KNOW the partition is empty, but when I right click and go to properties, it says that 10GB is already used? This is rather confusing to me

He tried to do a regular upgrade and after it installed his screen had wallpaper and that's it. No icons or task bar or anything. I've also tried using nautilus to empty the trash but it didn't work either. I really need to free up some space because I'm down to 1.6 GBs of free space
