Recently, I tried to install the following PPA "ppa:alexeftimie/ppa" However, it just failed to download/fetch the files needed to finish installation see below.Also, I can not receive any updates at all.

I am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.

I get this message when Ubuntu 9.10 tries to update:

What could be the problem and how might I correct it?
I have 3 monitors across 2 video cards, thusly I must use Xinerama (And xserver-xgl for compiz of course, but that's another story and regardless of this issue) in order to combine all three monitors into one large session.
The issue is that, on 10.04 due to an update to xorg which has a regression, moving my mouse across to the left monitor causes it to flicker back and forth between the left and center monitor (While also freezing the rest of the display), and it eventually crashes xorg shortly after. This bug has been reported [URL] and has been open since Ubuntu 10.04 alpha, but perhaps there is some workaround here as this is a make-or-break thing for me. If I can't get this working, it's back to Windows...
When I attempt to run the updates that are found with Update Manager, it simply returns to the Update Manager screen as if nothing happens. The following is what appears in my terminal view. This is a Linux guest VM (VirtualBox) running on a Windows 7 pro 64-bit host.

The Live CD worked fine as did an install to the HD, but I get a message from Update manager that there are updates that need to be applied and these always fail. I've tried selecting different ones in case it is just a particular update, but nothing has updated.

With the last set of patches and updates my Fedora 12 box will get to starting ATD and the screen blnks a few times and the boot process stops.I tried typing "I" for interactive boot so I could skip "atd" and try to recover the box without any luck.

I have done a clean install of Lucid netbook remix on a Dell mini-12 laptop.
Finally managed to get the broadcom wireless driver packages and poulsbo drivers to install correctly and decided to install all the offered updates.
After reboot I get the menu bar at the top but then desktop flashes between white and my background image for ages but does not give me the normal netbook tabs etc.
If I try a restart I get a pop-up saying 'Netbook Launcher is not responding'.
I recently got the Message, that i should do a partial System Upgrade. It included an update to Kernel 2.6.34. Since this update, i cannot boot with this kernel:

i can still boot with older kernels, but many drivers including wifi and graphics drivers dont work there anymore.
Just installed 10.10 under Oracle VM VirtualBox and then installed VBOX additions to clear up monitor issues. Mozilla Firefox works and so does Evolution mail client (needs work though). Everything seems to work EXCEPT Update Manager.I consistently get Failure message: "Failed to download package files".

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had to install grub manually after the install. GRUB loads fine and I can select the Ubuntu option, but it simply stays on a purple screen with no HDD activity. When I go into recovery, it falls to a busybox command-line and says "ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/(string of letters and numbers) does not exist". I use a RAID array which causes me loads of problems, but I'm fairly sure, from what I've read of similar problems, that this is due to the update it did during installation. I suppose I could try installing it without internet connection, but then presumably the same thing would happen as soon as I ran update-manager? I have actually tried the reinstall several times as well as reinstalling GRUB.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless worked perfectly on my clean install of Fedora 11. However, after the system update, my wireless continued to work perfectly for about ten minutes. Then it dropped the network connection. however, it still says that it is connected, although I cannot load any web pages, nor get email, nor connect to anything at all.When I reload the connection it continues to say it is connected, after prompting for the password that used to be saved and used automatically. It now works for maybe a few seconds at a time, loading part of a web page, then stopping.

I am running F13 GNOME on a Fujitsu laptop. It ran flawlessly for months until yesterday when I got this error message when I tried to do a software update:"Failed to initialize". View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently (after the new version iPlayer was released I guess) I have been unable to download IPlayer content. On going to download, the IPlayer screen offers to install the IPlayer Desktop app, tries to install Air (already installed via Software Centre) and fails with a message like "A download error occurred. Try to download again?". Repeating just loops around to the same error message.
This happens on both my PC and laptop - both running Lucid. Have tried uninstalling the Iplayer app and Air, but still the same happens. Any suggestions, or do I have to wait for the Beeb to get it sorted?
Whenever I update my Ubuntu, there is an update for gdm that fails with the following error:

I turned on my debian systems. Update tells me that I have 26 updates, mostly to samba. I proceed and it gives me an error saying something about public key not available. Suggests to try smart update. I do that, smart update says I have 129 updates available (reasonable I guess b/c I have not updated in close to a year)
I proceed with smart update...now it says I can install 137 updates, I hit Check, tells me it is downloading packages, then, I get an error:

I don't understand why....What is the solution for this?
I have squeeze using the default setup with 5 seperate partitions on hard drive. All other updates are fine but it will not install the Linux-Image-2.6.32-5-amd64. I get message that not enough room. I think this is the kernal update. I use update manager. Is there a fix for this short of resizing the partition. This is a one computer/user setup. I had this problem on a previous install of stable and ignored it thinking that it was a glitch. That install was an experimental setup and I liked it but it didn't work on the internet very well so went to testing.

I have boot as a separate partition, this time around I have set it to ext4 for the first time. That partition is only 250 Mb, but that has always been sufficient in the past, perhaps I am holding too many kernels or kernel versions?
