I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. I just bought the Zotac Geforce GT 430. I downloaded and installed the driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-275.21.run. (from nvidia.com)
Everything seems alright except that I can only see black video when I play any kind of movie (avi, mkv, mov, ..) while the sound is still playing.
Previously, I could watch any movie well with the onboard graphic card. My mainboard is Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2V.
I am trying to set nvidia x screen to play movie on tv via s-video. When switched to tv screen is white in twinview, I can move x server settings window but that is all. In separate x screen monitor goes black, tv does not change. Also have installed Nvtv tv out. I have GeForce4 MX420

To get multimedia working, or explain what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.

I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
When I insert a movie DVD into the drive, the disk is read, a window pops up asking what software do I want to use (Open Movie Player is the default). I click use Open Movie Player and get "An error occurred could not read from resource" dialog - and the movie does not play.The file manager reads the disk without any problem, so don't think it's a bad disk (and it plays in my WinXP machine). I checked in Synaptic and it appears that Totem and all the stuff that needs to be installed with Totem is there. Is there another player or some front end for totem that I don't have? In that initial screen asking for software choice, totem is not an optio n.I've looked around in Medibuntu and it looks like all the needed files are already installed. Is there a different DVD player that needs to be installed?

I have not changed any settings on the Backend, only loaded a few Music, Photos & Videos to the /var/lib/mythtv/music & pictures & video directories.
Photos & music functionality is 100%
The problem I'm having is with the "Watch Video" option; the test videos I have loaded to /var/lib/mythtv/videos directory, show up in the Watch Video section, all the information on each movie is displayed (looks great), it gives me the option to "Play" the video, but when I select play, nothing happens.
If I close the "Frontend" and open the same movies with VLC the work perfectly

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got done installing Ubuntu on a new harddrive and set it up to dual boot with grub loader. However, when I boot into Ubuntu, the screen goes black. I can however login (blind) by hitting enter and typing password. The login sound goes and it logs in, however, the screen stays black. I am running a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295 Video Card.

Sound is there, players don't display any error messages, but the image is black. Flash video within browsers is fine, though.Things go back to normal with the new settings kept after restarting X. However, having to restart X and lose my desktop set up every time when I just want to connect my laptop to my office screen is highly inconvenient.Is this a bug or expected behaviour that I have to live with?

Tried playing with Totem Movie Player 2.32.0, it cannot find a suitable plugin.

I am currently trying to play a VC-1 encoded MKV-file under Linux (Ubuntu 10 / latest Mint, both are affected), but VLC reports that it isn't able to decode WVC-1. VLC is able to play this file under Fedora 13, OS X and Windows, while both mplayer and ffplay are able to play this movie under Ubuntu 10 and Linux Mint.
I made two log files that where previously posted on the VLC forum, where I was told that it looks like there is a problem with the avcodec. I have basic experience with compiling stuff, but my knowledge of C++ and the linux internals is close to null. Which packages do I need to build from source in order recreate avcodec and its dpendendcies?

When I put a DVD in my PC (any DVD), it recognizes the DVD and even tells me the title of the movie (for example, it knows that I put Cat People in the DVD drive). But then it gives an error message, "An error occurred. Could not read from resource." I have Ubuntu 9.10 on a HP Pavilion ZE4900 laptop.

Ok so a brief description. The comp initially had an ATI Radeon X1600 card I removed because it was giving more trouble than it was worth. I'll add it later if there is a chance it might make things batter. (NB the computer was painfully slow with the card installed... runs faster without it)
I installed the restricted formats pakage as per the instructions found at: [URL]
So I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package and then ran:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
in the terminal.
Now here is what happens. The DVD plays as I can hear it but the screen is black. moving the screen i'll get glimpses of video but not much. This happens in MOvie PLayer and in VLC. However with VLC by moving it around and going full screen I manage to get the video component working as well.
I use Fedora 12 AMD64 , and my daughter use it . and I have tom and jerry in my computer , I like my daughter only use game and learn many thing about computer , but she always see Tom and Jerry and waste time . View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my second day of using Linux Mint and I have bunch of questions. Let's start with this one. I tried to play dvd movie yesterday night. I put disc in drive. And nothing happened. Like it's not in there. So I tried to double click (I'm old Windows user trying to learn new stuff) on cd/dvd disc in computer. It's unresponsive. I try right click run with application some kind of movie player. It says 'Could not open location. You might not have permission to open the file'.So I installed VLC and did the same thing but same message appears.So I look at google for the answer and didn't find much. And I was tired and went to sleep.
Today I wake up, turn on my laptop and surprise, surprise! There is some icon on my desktop saying 'Name of the show' (that was the dvd I was trying to open). So I double click it and there are all episodes. And I can now browse it and play any episode I want. So I say, 'hey, there must be something if I eject this dvd, and put it in again, I would have same problem as last night'. And I have. And problem is back. Now I cant play anything again.
I can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).
I also took a snapshot of my system monitor. I am not sure what resources it is talking about?
Just tried to play a DVD using movie player and it said 'cant read from resource' only happened recently. I used to be able to play them.

I installed VLC media player and all the files will play in it. If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.

I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
However, clicking the play button does nothing.
I have some .3GP movies that where made with my mobile phone. I can only play the video and not hear the audio. Is there a way to convert these movies to other format so I can edit them. And is there a way to play a .3GP movie in a mediaplayer with the proper codecs?
