Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Keeps Disconnecting -how To Make It Connect

Nov 11, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a 15' Dell Studio After doing an update my internal wireless will not connect to my wireless network. The card is on, I can see networks around me, but it will not connect to mine. It just acts like its connecting and then disconnects.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Keeps Disconnecting ?

Mar 9, 2010

Wifi seems to disconnect fairly requently, sometimes reconnecting automatically and sometimes requiring me to re-enter the wep password.

I would like to make it so it stays connected.

The router is not very close, but I think it's close enough. I even moved it closer. Other devices (such as my N900 mobile phone) hold the connection without issue.

One complication is that there are several devices all with the same SSID, though there should be one which is clearly stonger.

Details below.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Keep Disconnecting In 10.04?

May 19, 2010

I never had this problem with Ubuntu before and I am now confused. This is a clean install and I have not change anything about my AP so don't why this is happening.

Every 5min or so my wifi keeps disconnecting and sometimes have problems reconnecting. I also have Windows on this machine and it does not do this at all. My AP is set to channel 9(changing it makes no difference), WPA2. Logs below

Code:

Debian Configuration :: USB Wifi Adapter Frequently Disconnecting

May 20, 2015

Using a USB ISO, I recently installed Debian 8.0 Jessie (64-bit, Xfce DE) to a new computer. I usually lose my Wifi connection after 1-3 minutes when donwloading/uploading at around max. speed 4 Mbps/512 kbps. Sometimes it will last 15+ minutes.

When lightly browsing it can usually stay connected for 15-30 minutes. I have to disable and enable Wifi using NetworkManager to connect again. If I remember correctly, there were problems with the Wifi connection even during the installation of Debian.

This Wifi USB adapter works fine on my old computer with Debian 7.7 (32-bit). No problems with the Wifi connection yesterday on my old computer during 10+ hours of activity.

This Wifi adapter also works fine on this new computer when I boot from a live USB (Rescatux 0.30.2) downloading and uploading at max. speed for 1+ hour.

I already tried some suggestions I found online, but they didn't work:

* changing Wifi channels between 1, 6, 11 in my router settings
* changing WPA-WPA2 to WPA2 in my router settings
* ignore IPv6 in NetworkManager
* change probe_wait_ms from 500 ms to higher value by adding Code: Select alloptions mac80211  probe_wait_ms=1000 or Code: Select alloptions mac80211  probe_wait_ms=3000 to /etc/modprobe.d/mac80211.conf and rebooting
* disable Power Management for Wifi adapter (not supported)
* ...

I can also post the output of commands from Rescatux or my old computer if needed.

Output of commands on Debian 8.0 64-bit (I edited out some info, MAC, ...; not sure if that is important):

Code: Select alluname -a

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Make Wifi Autoconnect

May 6, 2010

I have installed Xubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) on a PC at my uncle's. He is the happy owner of a Netgear wg121 wireless usb-adapter.

I have followed the instructions concerning installation of the ndiswrapper here:
[URL]

The wg is up and running and everything seems to work perfect... except that, when I reeboot and log in, I have to issue the following commands again, to make the network initialize the wep-encrypted connection. If I do not issue these commands, the wifi-part of the Xubuntu network manager (I don't know the exact name of the program) is invisible in the menu or anywhere on the desktop. (It just says no network where the wifi should be appended). But when I issue these commands in a terminal, then the adapter (wg121) opens and connects to the network:

sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
I have tried the command:
sudo ndiswrapper -m

in order to make Xubuntu connect automatically on opening, but no success. When i look through the log it says something about a .conf file, but not which and how, so I'm a bit lost.

Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi Won't Connect

Dec 2, 2010

Having played around with ubuntu a fair bit I decided to breathe life into an old thinkpad with a pcmcia wireless card, by following the minimal install instructions and using lxde window manager etc.. Everything works fine apart from the fact that I cannot connect wirelessly. The card picks up and lists connections but whenever I have clicked on a connection the dail spins and then it gives up.I installed network-manager and managed to get nm-applet appearing in the sysTray otherwise I would not even have known there was wireless connections there.

I was thinking there maybe some conflict with another network manager, does this sound likely?

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - Cannot Connect To WiFi

Jan 14, 2011

I'm having an issue recently with Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Connecting to my wifi is not working. I believe it is some kind of issue with the router. On Windows 7 the only way that I could connect to the net was by copying the network profile to a usb flashdrive from another computer and loading it mine. The wireless signal just keeps attempting to connect.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - Cannot Connect With WiFi

I have Ubuntu 10.04 on my EeePC 1000H. I don't use this computer often but it has always worked before... I suspect an update did this to me. I've recently swapped wireless routers but all my other machines have been able to connect to the new router. I can see the SSID and the signal strength is high but when I try to connect to it, it just attempts for a long time then asks me for my password again. I am currently connected to wired network.

Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To WiFi

Jun 17, 2011

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday and my wireless didn't work so I searched a little and found a way to make it work; Uninstalled bcmwl-kernel-source and installed firmware-b43-lpphy-installer and b43-fwcutter. And it worked. But today I accidentally pressed the "turn off wireless" button on my laptop. I obviously pressed it again and thought it would work but it doesn't. Now I find networks and stuff but I can't connect to them. It tries for awhile and then asks me to enter the password which I do (it is correct) and then it tries to connect for a few minutes again and then it asks me for the password again.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 - Cannot Connect To Office WiFi (WPA)

Jan 4, 2011

I am running 10.10 on a Toshiba NB255 netbook. Wireless works find for me at home and worked last week at a hotel. At home I just use WEP, and my office network uses WPA. I can connect just fine from my work laptop but not from this netbook. The network shows up fine in the network manager and it asks for the WPA password, but doesn't establish a connection. Every once in a while it will say it is connected and has full strength but I can't ping anything, and within a minute or so it drops again. IIRC yesterday it connected via wireless and actually worked for maybe a minute before dropping at it hasn't worked since. Like I said, this has worked on other wireless networks.

Here is some output from dmesg:

Ubuntu Networking :: Can See My Wifi Network - But Can't Connect

Feb 18, 2011

So recently we switched Internet Providers. While we had Bellsouth, my laptop would connect to our wireless internet flawlessly everytime. However, we just switched to Charter because it was both cheaper and faster. But now, my laptop will not connect to our wireless. If I hook it up to an Ethernet cord, it connects just fine. I believe they gave us a new modem/router or whatever it is that sends out the wifi signal.

I have tried to connect with this laptop on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Backtrack 4. On Ubuntu and Linux Mint, after I enter the correct WEP key, it sits there and tried to connect for a minute or two, but then the window pops up asking for the WEP key again, even though it's still filled out.

When I tried connecting on Backtrack, it told me that it could not obtain an IP address.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Connect To WiFi Router

I think I have unique problem. I have a d-link DWL G510 rev c.(Austrailian) WiFi card in my pc which is detected as

Quote:

iwconfig shows:

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSIDff/any

Now sometimes it detects my wifi router and shows its ssid in nm-applet. but when I try to connect, it tries for 3 or 4 minutes and then fails. for most of time it even does not finds my router.
