Ubuntu :: Mysql Errors Can't Logon As Root?

Jan 11, 2010

I went away this weekend and everything with my mysql server was working great. I got home on sunday, and I found that my web pages couldn't be displayed because they were unable to gain access to the mysql database.

I am now not able to log into mysql using root or debian-sys-maint. I get error messages.

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

I have tried loading mysql in safe mode, and changing the passwords, but this does little to help me.

I am unable to retart my services without them failing, so after making the changes i have to manually kill the processes for mysql to get it to stop. After doing that i try to start mysql up, and it gives me a .sock error. I will post some of the errors in my next post, but if anyone has a general idea what i can try to manually override the passwords or reset them. I did read that i can reset the debian-sys-maint password using the msql/rm.conf , but i am unable to log on as root to change the password

Software :: MySQL Initial User Logon ID?

Aug 11, 2009

I'm running Suse 11.1. MySQL is installed. I downloaded and installed the software for MySQLAdmin and MySQLBrowser, this was one software package so both got installed at the same time. My question is this; When I log into MySQL to use the Admin Tools it doesn't like my root password. So I log in as 'localhost' with the id of 'root' and no password and I get right into the main Admin menu. Why doesn't it accept the root password and how can I change the root login to need to have a password. Will just changing the password in MySQL Admin do the trick?

Security :: Display Of Number Of Failed Logon Attempt At Logon?

Jan 26, 2010

Our system is based on RH4 and is using pam_tally and faillog to record failed attempts and to lock users out after 5 attempts. We have a requirement to provide a normal (non-root) user logging onto our system, with information regarding the number of failed logon attempts made on their account before the current successful logon (similar to the functionality provided by HP Protect Tools on Windows). My first idea was to add 'faillog -u $USER' to the bashrc, however by the time the bashrc is run - the user has been successfully authenticated and the faillog has been reset back to zero.

Ubuntu Servers :: MySQL Not Starting - No Errors

Jan 15, 2010

My mysql server won't start on my machine. It simply fails with no errors.
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart
* Stopping MySQL database server mysqld [ OK ]
* Starting MySQL database server mysqld [fail]

When I run cat /var/log/mysql.err the file is empty, thinking this might be a permissions issue
I tried chowning to a mysql user. Here's the current permissions.
Code:
ls -alh /var/log/mysql*

Programming :: MySQL Syntax And Code Errors

I am reading Sams Teach Yourself SQL in one hour a day. In this book they work with both Oracle and MySQL to teach you SQL. So I installed mysql on my box and I am creating the empty database they use in this book so I can follow along as I read. I have noticed a few typos in the book and now I have noticed some code errors too. I just don't know enough to fix em. I am working on creating the empty database and I am getting syntax errors when I create certain tables. Programming :: Adding Source To C Project To Include Mysql.h = New Errors?

Jul 14, 2009

I am trying to modify the source code of a C application (quagga) in order to insert data into a mysql table. I have added 2 new source files to the source (neto_mysql, neto_trend) which in turn use mysql.h. I have also modified the Makefile.am file to include the /usr/include/mysql directory.

Ubuntu :: Errors After Mem Test - Run The LiveCD It Halts Because Its Unable To Mount Root ?

Mar 25, 2010

I am having problems with an old laptop I have. It had windows xp on it, and after loaning it to a friend it wouldn't boot up. I decided to try linux, but I'm having problems loading it. If I try to run the liveCD it halts because its unable to mount root. If I try to install it just doesnt work well (will stop at different points).

So I figured a mem test would help. I am running the test, currently its on test #6, but it is coming up with a ton of errors. Does this mean I need to replace the RAM?

If so, this is the computer I have. Will this RAM work? I've been out of the tech game for awhile so not really following hardware anymore, and just want to double check.

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the start( utility, e.g. start mysql mysql start/running, process 20301.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Root Password In Mysql?

Aug 19, 2011

Using 11.04, and just installed mysql 5.1.54 using synaptic

I was following the instructions here and the installation when fine,

except that I never got a screen to set the root password.

When I try to set the password using these instructions, following either

"If you have never set a root password for MySQL" $ mysqladmin -u root password NEWPASSWORD

OR, since the first method failed me, then: "However, if you want to change (or update) a root password, then you need to use following command" $ mysqladmin -u root -p'oldpassword' password newpass

Either way, it fails. Question:

1) why am I not being prompted to set a root password during installation?

2) what can I do now to fix this??

I am trying to learn Mysql, so don't presume I know anything about command syntax (cookbook instructions) For example, the first command above,I tried with with NEWPASSWORD in quotes, and then without. Likewise for the second command.

How can I start MySQL service as root? Or is there another way to fix that issue.

Let me know if you need more information (giving details on how to get it would be nice too).

But none of them seem to work.I tried this article http://ubuntu.flowconsult.at/en/mysq...root-password/ with starting mysql with the --skip-grant-tables option. The problem is that nothing happens, it just hangs. Also tried the the --init-file option, that one runs fine, at least it returned to the command line. But the sql query in the file to which it point doesnt seem to do anything. The password wasn't changed to the one I specified in the sql file.Any idea what could be going on here, and how I could fix it?
