Ubuntu Multimedia :: .mp3 - Shrink .wav Files To A More Manageable Size?

Jun 2, 2010

Burned onto CD, some mp3 music...used windows.... Now when copying from the CD to computer using Ubuntu 9.1, ...althouth there is no problem with the sound and they play great. I noticed that the file format is now .wav, furthermore the file size is about 13 times the size. I burned a file no larger than 3-5 MB and now the same file is 60 - 70 MB. Is there an easy way to shrink these files to a more manageable size?

Hardware :: Partition Shrink To Filesystem Size?

Apr 16, 2010

How can I shrink a partition to the filesystem size?I copied my ubuntu installation via dd from a smaller partition to a little bit bigger one to have all the same settings and programs and upgraded the distribution afterwards. Now the filesystem is smaller than the partition size. It would be nice to have both partitions have the same size so I could copy back the newer distribution someday ...GParted recognizes the new partition as 27 GB, the filesystem is just 25 GB.Is there a nice way to resize the partition to exact the size of the filesystem so that the filesystems remains untouched and no data might me lost?

Debian Multimedia :: Compiz Doesn't Find Manageable Screen?

Oct 13, 2010

I upgrade yesterday my lenny to squeeze.

Now I have some problem with compiz. When I do compiz --replace, I get:

compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Launching fallback window manager

Is it a driver problem? My ATI video card is one of them that works only with open driver and they seems corrrectly installed. glxinfo | grep render, give me a positive result.

Fedora :: Shrink Library By Converting All The Flac Files To Ogg

Aug 6, 2011

I've been a Linux user for 5 years, though this I only recently started using RPM based distros. I'm still in my first week using Fedora and I love it. Hats off to the development team. Now, onto my question:

I have a rather large collection of music in three different formats: MP3, OGG, and FLAC. I'd like to shrink my library by converting all the flac files to ogg. However, since I don't want to convert from lossy to lossy, I'm going to leave the mp3s alone. Is there a program that will allow me to do this quickly and easily? I'd prefer a GUI, though I'm comfortable working with the terminal if needed.

Debian Multimedia :: How To Change Icons Size And Gaps Size

Oct 22, 2015

today I upgraded via official testing repository Gnome to version 3.18. After this, icons on desktop and nautilus are bigger, than before. Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.

Normal view - icons are big for this view. URL....

Small view - icons are still big for this view. URL...

How can I change icons size and gaps size? Or is it bug for this version?

Ubuntu :: Filter Image Files By Size?

Feb 16, 2010

I need a command that will check the size (visual size, not file size) of every image in a folder and its sub folders, and make a copy (or even better, a hard link) of that file in a second directory if the image is larger than 1920x1080 pixels (in both dimensions, not just total area). Also, lots of these file names have spaces, so the command needs to be space-tolerant

I'm guessing I would need to use one of the imagemagick commands and find, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm still reading man pages, but I thought someone here might save me some time.

(Movies, and OOo documents are not identical, even if one is the script for the other, which in this case is not the case. Both fdupes and fslint claimed that those two files were identical. (And yes, I did look at them.

General :: Upgrading Redhat To Support Ext4 For Files Over 2TB In Size

Sep 27, 2010

We are currently running Redhat 5.4 64Bit (Build 2.6.18-164.e15) however having issues with tar files that are greater than 2TB in size.

We have been told that upgrading the kernel to support the ext4 file system (supported in version 5.5?) and mounting the current 10TB nas share as an ext 4 file system may solve our over 2TB file size issues. Are their limitations within the ext3 file system that cause issues to files greater than 2TB and if this is the case Do we have to update the kernel (complete rebuild), or can we load a package on the redhat box to support the ext 4 file system Where do we get the upgrade/package. I have logged onto the redhat site and can not find kernel updates but can find the full installation packages. We are not connected directly to the internet and do not have access to the update repository
