I have my Acer Aspire One netbook hooked up to an LCD TV via a VGA cable. The resolution is just fine, but the image is cut off just slightly on the right. I've already used the TV's image positioning feature to move it to the left as much as I can, but some of the image is still cut off.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed "open-SUSE 11.4" on a "500GB Free Agent External Hard Drive". I didn't have any problem in booting since last week that I booted it from my laptop. Also I did it before several times from then when I try to boot it e.g. from an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" PC the time between loading INITRD and starting boot sequence messages lasts nearly 30 minutes!(i didn't actually measure it but it take a long time in the same order). after starting boot sequence which is showed on monitor everything looks normal. e.g copy of files would be done by speeds between 2MB/s to 30 MB/s depending on the targets.I used to use the external hard derive to boot from different laptops and PC's from start but I didn't have such a problem anytime.

I am trying to write a script to turn my HTPC off automatically and turn it back on again at a specified interval.
I've got the turn on off bit sorted using /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm but I want the script to not turn the machine off if say something is downloading, I am currently watching something etc and i dont think I will have any trouble with that.
But what I would really like to be able to do is tell if my TV is currently on. I dont think anything x11 related would work here and this may not even be possible. Does Ubuntu "know" if it's display device is powered on or not? if so can I interrogate this somehow?

I have a ubuntu desktop running 9.04 and a Acer Netbook running UNR 9.04.Using NFS I have shared my videos from the desktop and have it automounted at start up on the netbook. I can navigate to the files but once I click play, the netbook locks up.Is this a limitation on my hardware or is there a better way to "stream" these vids?

Some videos in 720p I can watch perfectly, while others start crashing after 1 minute..They are mostly in MKV, which from what I understand, it's just a container for the video/audio and can be in several formats. I know that VLC has the Transcode feature, and I'd like to use that to transcode the videos to a video Codec that requires the least CPU processing.

I have an HTPC with an onboard ATI video chipset but for hardware acceleration's sake, I installed a GeForce 9500GT video card. Everything works quite well, except for the overscan issue. I've installed the latest nvidia binary drivers (manually) but I don't see any options in nvidia-settings to solve this overscan issue.

I tried adding that ModeLine line myself (using xrandr and gtf) but that fails too. I've scoured the web and these forums, and I've seen some overscan issues reported but with no solution in sight.
I am running 11.04 on a new Gateway with 8 gigs of ram. It is a solo installation. The monitor is connected via an HDMI cable. Everything was great (installation running smoothly for over a month) until last night. I just installed a netgear router and was setting it up with the system to try to get Stanza on my IPAD to connect to Calibre. Anyway, i suffered a severe freeze up warranting a hard boot. I could see the drive working, ancillary drives lit up, keyboard lit up so I know the system is working. The monitor did not come on, It shows a yellow light indication no signal. It is a 28" Hansspree. I tested the monitor by hooking it to a laptop. The monitor is fine. I cannot see anything on the screen so I can't boot to repair mode or use a CD. There is no signal.

The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
Why i cant change from 800x480 to 1024x600, that this model of EEE pc doesnt support anything higher than 800x480 at the 10:1 ratio...
Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?

After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Samsung P3 portable audio player I chose it because it had bluetooth support and also appeared to support open audio formats like OGG and FLAC. The only other bluetooth player was the iPod touch. The unit mounts in Nautilus fine and I can read/write files fine. I can even play audio files from it with Movie Player. Here's the problem: I can't get Rhythmbox or any other music player to run without crashing when the P3 is connected!

I'm rather new to Ubuntu (using 10.04.1), but if there's an easy way to control this via terminal, I'd be, of course, very interested in that as well.
My notebook thinkpad w500 has two video cards, intel / radeon. When i test some 3d games by wine or some videos by mpv using dri_prime=1 to dynamic enable radeon card, the game/video window always tearing, see bug report [URL] ....
So I try to start second xserver directly use radeon card, command like this:

I put 20-radeon.conf into /etc/X11/radeon, which is:

If i just put 20-intel.conf into /etc/X11/radeon (just use intel IDG), the second xserver runs ok. Just using radeon DIS the second xserver started without any conntected output. run DISPLAY=:1 xrandr could confirm that, all disconnetted, so it's black screen on second xserver vtn, and default xserver vt7 still ok.
Am i missing something to config second xserver using radeon DIS, or it's not possible...
I'm giving windows 7 a break and have a fresh, updated install of opensuse 11.4. The problem I have is that when I plug my samsung galaxy S2 in I can't view the pictures I've taken with the camera.I get the popup box saying camera and giving me the option to view with gwenview, digikam and filemanager. Now i can see the folders including the DCIM folder that the images are stored in but it's empty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have an hp 110 mini running 10.10 laptop (not netbook. i prefer the laptop desktop). i use firefox as my default browser. i find that i must always scroll and center web pages with embedded video (e.g. videos), and even then, i may not see the entire video frame (off the page top and bottom)
i know i can "open up" the usable area of firefox with add-ons (but haven't done it yet). are there any other ways, either through ubuntu screen settings, firefox settings, or flash settings, to shrink or adjust the default video frame size on the page? or is this simply one of the limitations of a netbook i will have to deal with?
I couldn't find a way to set/increase the external monitor resolution using Ubuntu (10.10) with the PSB drivers. I tried to use the xrandr commands like shown here: [URL] without success.

There is NO WAY I can make it see my Ubuntu machine though.I have the 10.04 and I have tried almost all the available programs for this OS.Name it and I have tried it: Mediatomb,ushare, PS3MediaServer and others that I cannot recall right now.These programs are installed with no errors and they look like they run correctly, their web interfaces work fine but that's all.None of them has been ever found by the TV,-but it can see the native Samsung program PC Share runnning on the XPs.What's the problem with my Ubuntu system and it cannot be recognised by the TV?It's not that it won't play this or that file. It's that it won't see the server AT ALL.
