Ubuntu Multimedia :: Combining Streams Of Video Into One File?
Feb 6, 2011
I'm looking for a program of some kind that I can combine 4 (if not 2 minimum) streams of video into one file. The only program so far that I've found that does this is avisynth but I can't seem to make it work at all. Does it even work under ubuntu? I've tried numerous guides and how to's but nothing seems to be working.
Basically I just need something that will take a video file, from several different sources (cameras placed around a car) and be able to place them in a grid form into one file. Basically in a format like this, where each letter is a different video file:
a b
c d

I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?

And then we combine it as a single video with dual role effect. Now, I think you understood my requirement. Plz anyone tell that type of application which suits my needs.

Is there any software that will allow me to combine like DVD Shrink does? Without having to convert them muliple times. In DVD Shrink, you open one titleset and choose the movie you want and then open the second titleset and then do the same, and have DVD Shrink combine and shrink them into another titleset, then I make a menu with Titlewriter.

I've decided to start backing up my dvd collection. I want to extract all of the audio, video, and subtitle streams individually (from the main movie title only). Then for convenience and usability I want to put them all in a .mkv container. How can I do this and with which programs? ffmpeg, vlc, mplayer? If I can do this all at once, that's fine. But I don't want to get the streams out of sync.

I've tried several methods without success. These OGV files are 7 parts of a single screen cast. I tried ffmpeg but every option I try I either get crappy video or the audio/video is out of sync. Latest attempt was:
Code:
ffmpeg -v 9 -i XDF_Demo-PART-0-video.ogg -r 15 frames-part1/XDF_Demo_%06d.png
But that failed because the png quality. mplayer and mencoder I mostly just couldn't get it to play the files together. easy way to combined these files so media players and html5 can play it in one pass?

So I asked around and to combine audio files apparently I want to use Audacity.
It seems easy enough to LAYER audio files, but how do you string them together in sequence? I have an audiobook divided into 5 minute chapters and I want to combine them into longer chapters....my MP3 player likes to play them out of order which makes them difficult to listen to. I want to make it 1 long tract, or maybe 6 medium length tracks.
How do I combine tracks with Audacity...Not layering them but putting them in order into 1 long track?

So what I am looking to do is combine an archive and a script file. I would like to have a number of files compressed into an archive package and when a user double clicks on the package instead of having it open with the archive manager, instead have it run a shell script that is also packaged with the files.
This shell script will do a number of things including handling where the files are extracted to. Over all this would be similair to a self-extracting installer Windows users are used to using.

I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.

I have a problem passing a file descriptor from one process to another.
I have two processes A and B. Both are running in different network and
filesystem namespaces, so it is impossible to use unix domain sockets or
net sockets to pass a file descriptor from process A to process B.
The usage of STREAMS is also impossible, as you can see in
fixunix.com/unix/84093-streams-pipes-ioctl-i_sendfd.html
[quotation begin]
Linux doesn't have STREAMS, which are the System V way
of doing this task. ...
[quotation end]
Are there additional possibilities for file descriptor passing like
using named pipes or something like that or does anybody know
a good workaround for this problem ?

I can't seem to get DivX streams to buffer long enough to watch them. I have installed DivX plugins and tried to use VLC, neither which, allow me to pause the video and allow the buffer to load. On Winblows and Mac, There was a different player that handled DivX streams that allowed for large buffering. I checked the /tmp folder while attempting to watch and the stream is not there. Is there another folder I should see the stream in? Is there a bug with the software, or can you only buffer DivX streams as long as they are running? I have a slow DSL connection and have no other way, other than torrents, to watch movies. And I would much rather wait a few minutes to watch the entire movie, than wait a few hours for the torrent to finish downloading.

I am having problems listening to windows media streams from a particular website ( http://radiotime.com ) whenever I try to listen to a stream from firefox, the page loads then connects but i have no sound (i am actually trying to listen to those two chinese radios [URL].. I have the mplayerplug-in/gecko-mediaplayer installed, but it doesn't work, I tought that maybe there was a problem with that plugin so I deactivated it and installed the vlc plugin, after restarting firefox and trying to listen to those streams again, the vlc plugin tried to read it but it still would not work. I even tried to install the Silverlight Plug-In without any result, does anybody know what I could do to make windows media audio streams work ? it is wierd because i seem to be able to watch windows media video streams from other websites, but i cannot listen to any stream from this one, it used to work for mp3 streams only, but after desinstalling/resinstalling the mplayer plug in, it doesn't work anymore on this website. I can listen to those streams without any problem under windows 7, so the problem isn't coming from the website.

I would like to record music streams on my computer, coming from the Firefox FLASH plugin, with audacity or something else.In ancient times I had a soundcard that allowed to enable loopback by sw, but my current soundcard (realtec ALC88 doesn't support it. I am looking for a sw based solution to record the sound (not a hw loopback cable). I need a GUI.I tried JACK, but this is horribly complicated, Audacity seems to support it, but does the FLASH player? Anyhow, I never got any sound stream rerouted to audacity through JACK.Isn't there a simple solution that allows to tap the digital audio stream at the output of the Flash player and write it to a file

Hi! This is my first post here, I'm back to openSUSE since the last version I used 10.1 and I'm really enjoying using 11.2 so far .
Banshee (or totem) can't play mmsh streams. I have packman repositorie activated and have installed all gstreammer plugins plus ffmeg and ffmpeg related gstreamer plugins and libmms0.
I can play mp3, xvid and other formats, but these streams are the only thing that does not work.

This is an eternal problem with radio-canada streaming content, and it seems every new version of ubuntu we have to go through different processes to get it to work.In some previous versions, following the guidelines provided by radio-canada worked, but they are quite outdated now and some of the packages they refered to do not even exist anymore. I make regular reports of their website, but users complaining only end up by, if they answer at all "it works on our computers so it should work on yours" or "why don't you use windows".
Basically, their guides consist of removing the totem totem plugin, installing flash-plugin-nonfree and the mplayer plugin.I read somewhere the mplayer plugin is now gecko-mediaplayer, which I installed, but the videos still don't work.

I'm getting silence when trying to record output from pulseaudio on my laptop. This wasn't happening the last time I tried, which, I admit, was almost certainly a previous ubuntu release (I'm on 10.10).
My sound card is an Intel ICH8-family device, supported by the snd_hda_intel module. PulseAudio calls it "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".
I'm doing various things that I find on the onlines, a few main ideas:
1. parec
I use:
Code:
parec -d alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor
When I search for 'monitor' in $(pactl list), the only thing listed is alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor.
I use sox to convert the output to wav:
Code:
sox -t raw -r 44k -e signed-integer -L b 16 -c 2 $RAWFILE $WAVFILE
[Code].....

Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I am on Kubuntu Natty 11.04 64 bit.
I try to play some internet streams but when gstreamer is used as the phonon backend, Amarok never plays them. With Xine or VLC backend looks like I have no problems...
Exactly below you can find two of the streams I am trying.

I have a video file I pulled off of a disc from a camcorder. The file is in .VOB. If I open the file in anything besides VLC, it says that it is 23 seconds long and will either play only the first 23 seconds or play the whole 15 minutes VERY QUICKLY.
So, if I want to put this file into a video editor, I can't do much with it because it either doesn't play at all, or only plays 23 seconds.
I'm guessing there is some metadata in the file that declares how long it is that VLC is just ignoring. How can I access and change that metadata to its actual length? I fired up a hex editor just to see if I could find the number 23 somewhere in the beginning of the file, but I couldn't..

I have two video files taken with my phone, but unfortunately they are on their sides.
I was messing around with vlc, and found in the filters option menu, a setting to rotate the video 90 degrees, which is just what I was looking for.... BUT it won't let me save this (I guess you have to re-encode the whole file)
What is the easiest way to rotate video files (.3gp) and keep it in that state, without losing loads of quality?

I've tried playing about with Avidemux but no joy so far. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have rendered out less than two minutes of High Definition animation to Avi-Jpeg Format in Blender. Now, I have this 2 GB file. Going at this rate, it's going to take a whole DVD set to play a 15 min movie.
Surely, this file doesn't need 2 GB just for 1:45 min/sec, right? Even at high def? How do I reduce this file size down to like a manageable number, say, 20 miB?
