View 1 Replies1.) I made a few updates that I found a website my friend sent me: http://blog.thesilentnumber.me/2009/...nstalling.html
however, when I would go to enter the APT line in the other sources in the software sources windows then close and reload it I would get the following error message code...
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I also attached a screen shot of the error message window.
2.) I don't know if i should post another issue I had, but when i try to run GNUnet it says that Daemon is not running. I'm not sure what that is all about.
I installed Ubuntu 10.10, now I've been trying to add some applications like docky and jdownloader but always I got this message error :
[code]...
how to solve these and how to find a way to install my applications.
I am trying to add usermin source from here: [URL]
If you like to install and update Usermin via APT, edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file on your system and add the line : deb [URL]
I am unable to get KDE4 running properly, after updating my sources list to this
[code]...
I figured it was a problem with my nvidia drivers not being installed. This is what I did to install my nvidia drivers.

I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.
I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
I am installing a hp officejet pro 8500 all in one printer to knoppix 6.0.1. install hangs saying i need to disable cd sources in etc/apt/source.list. How do i do this?

I want to make a program (or script for now that I can use in one) that will backup the sources, but not the ubuntu ones. What I mean say I have ubuntu 9.04 and I want to update to 10.10, I can copy all the extra sources and add them to the sources list, but not the ones for ubuntu 9.04 (since I will have the 10.10 ones). I want to do this with a script, so it can be for backing up and automated.
I would also like it to work in debian (or any spin off of including ubuntu spin offs), that way if someone is switching from one debian based distro to another it can be made easier. The only problem I am having is in knowing if the source is part of the core of the distro or not. I would combine this with one that will backup installed programs, so you could easily move them with you for an upgrade or to try a new distro .I could sware I created this thread already (today actually) but I guess my browser did not submit it before I closed it .
Dose everyone has the remastersys2.0.13.deb.i can't connect the sources web site.

I think I may have accidentally screwed up my sources.list for Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Does anyone know where I can find the original?
For example, when I try to 'sudo aptitude install zsnes' the package is there (it let's me auto complete it), it gives me the following:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information

I am having conflicts in my software sources some maybe out of date but I am not sure how to tell which ones are. Is there a program that solves these problems. I have Ubuntu 10.4
View 4 Replies View RelatedI only started using it about two weeks ago now though I've had fun this morning I tried to update with update manager but I got this message:
Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type 'main' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'
I had installed ubuntu 10.04 and tried to update, got following problem code...
How to overcome this?
I have installed and uninstalled Ubuntu four times now due to various errors. Right now I am getting error messages anytime I try to use the update or package manager and I get the same message from both:
E: Malformed line 54 in source list/etc/apt/sources.list (URI parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E:_cache->open () failed, please report.
Just updated from Lucid to Meerkat and System>Administration no longer contains a tag for Software Sources. Has this been renamed, resited, made redundant or have I had a bad upgrade?

I just installed natty, I really like it, but every time I try to install an Indicator Applet, I get "E: The list of sources could not be read."
Edit: I installed by running the upgrade from Maverick.
I upgraded MM to NN and noticed all PPA software sources are disabled. This is AFAIK normal behaviour. But now what? How do I enable PPA software sources again but not for MM but for NN.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently started using Ubuntu again(used it before) and I have an ATI card, and as many of you probably know, it's impossible to play minecraft with ATI's proprietary driver, so I need the X.org ATI driver. The problem is, it's from the restricted souce, I have gone into the software sources manager and enabled the restricted sources and stuff, but when I go to install it, it just gives me the same"Available from the "restricted" source" message, and has an update button, I click the update button, and it does nothing
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to add more apt repos to my software sources. The system I want to do this on is Backtrack 4, but I also am running ubuntu on another system as well, 10.04. I have the standard ones already, as well as the google repo.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just attempted to upgraded to KDE 4.4 via backports but it seems a number of updates were blocked and now Plasma workspace crashes upon login. I can only get around viashift+alt+F2. And though I can access KPackageKit via shift+alt+F2 I can't seem to get software sources to load up from KPackage. I want to try enabling the pre-proposed and untested or whatever the other option was in software sources... Unless someone has a better idea
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10. I have added new PPA using a command, but this command got frozen. So I have closed terminal and reopen it.
Now I see "software sources" got corrupted. Please see attachments of System | Administration | Software Sources where all of the check-boxes are empty and and Other Software list is empty.
I have checked file /etc/apt/sources.list and there is the following text in it code...
Is there any way I can get this source list back?
I have recently just installed UBR 9.10 on my acer aspire one. ran into some issues connecting to the internet but have all been fixed now (hadn't disabled ivp6, kicking myself in the head for not figuring it out earlier)
anyway, as soon as that problem had been fixed (can access the internet now fine through firefox) another had arisen. i found that i couldnt download anything through the ubuntu software center, update the system through update manager, or even download anything through terminal.
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install amarok
when i try to download python 2.6 idle it gives me: Requires installation of untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. the in details it says: blt idle-python2.6 python-tk
