how to: use Live CD Ubuntu and Kubuntu and after I change settings of applications and when I add softwares, I would like to extract such Live CD to ISO image, it means I can burn again ISO which I extracted and made (using live cd) as I want. shortly, original iso image is not as I like, I want to change it and burn my version into CD or DVD.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've done a good few ubuntu installations for friends and colleagues and now my Dad wants in on the action. His PC is more than capable of running ubuntu 32 bit BUT I've hit a brick wall I've never come across before. I've burnt a CD image of the 10.04 iso from [URL] on my ubuntu box and for some reason, his PC just won't boot from it. If I select the option to manually select the boot source, all I see is the hardware monitor telling me things like CPU temperature. As for the Live USB - nothing whatsoever. Is it possible that I've managed to corrupt the iso file somehow?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLive CD: I dowloaded the ISO, burned it to CD, booted from this CD. It starts to load and I can see the purple background with the loading icons. Everything seems normal. But instead of ending up with the login screen, it ends up with a screen that says 'Please remove all bootup media and hit ENTER' or something like this. So I hit enter and then it shuts off my computer. That's it.
Live Stick: So I tried another option and created a stick with 'usb-creator.exe' that is on the CD. Then I start from that stick, but all I end up is a line of 'Syslinux bla bla copyright 20xx-2011'. That's it. Then it does nothing anymore. The cursor is blinking, but no prompt or whatsoever and keyboard input doesn't do anything.
Now something weird: When I insert Live CD and Live Stick at the same time and then boot my computer, then it boots into Ubuntu. Obviously it loads the first parts from CD and then the rest from stick. Because when I'm then in Ubuntu and try to format the stick, it says it can't do so, because there's system files from that stick in use.
I can't seem to find this anywhere. I have burned Debian 5.06 for i386 and trying to login when running the live cd. What is the username and password to get in?

I need aufs support/patch for kernel 2.6.34.1 as i i need to create a live linux distro for my organization and linux live scripts (the scripts which I am using for creating live linux distro) require aufs and squashfs support. There is a directive for squashfs in kernel configuration file but nothing for aufs and the patch available at linux-live site seems not to work.

I've been trying to download DJL for a while now and I keep getting error messages. I've been looking at instructions on how to do it and I do what they say. I download it and then I extract it. I think I'm getting confused on where I need to extract it to. I'm very new to this and I'm trying to learn. I've been extracting it to my desktop... then I enter into the terminal sh djl.sh and it gives me sh: Can't open djl.sh. I have the newest version of Ubuntu.

For about three months I've been going up and down the internet looking for a solution to this problem... Basically I take this distance learning course. Every lesson is sent to me via email in PDF format and it includes many audio examples which are embedded in the file. The problem is none of the Ubuntu readers seem to recognize it, and the Adobe reader says I need a plug-in which does not exist for my system. I quote: "We're sorry, but the third-party media player required to play the selected media file in your Adobe PDF document isn't available for your system". I've been taking this course for two years and I still have two more to go. I contacted the company that sells this course and they were as puzzled as I am... Is there a way to extract the audio from the PDF? Or alternatively open it with another application? I would hate to have to go back to windows for this one issue...

I just installed Ubuntu for the second time, first time was like 2 years ago and my pc was an oddball and some stuff was just not supported properly. Anyways.. I've got the latest build of Ubuntu installed, everything is working fine, just one problem.
I have many, many, many files that are archived in multiple .rar's. Like .r01, .r02, etc... I have them all copied over to the harddrive, but cannot extract what is in them. Also, I have some of these .rar's archived in a single .rar because of windows being stupid and not letting me copy them to my external drive as the names of them were too long for windows to handle. Those .rar's will extract a couple of the .r01, etc.. files, but not all of them.

I have installed unrar-free, and I am trying to extract a file from a .rar archive (actually the file is split into several archives).
When I choose one of the .rar files and open it with Archive Manager, there are no errors and the file to be extracted shows in the Archive Manager window. I then choose to extract it, and after that I click on "show files". But when the folder supposedly containing the extracted file opens, the file isn't there.
Maybe relevant info:
I am running latest stable version of Ubuntu, as the user that was created during the Ubuntu installation. The files are in my "Downloads" folder, and the Archive Manager window says that the .rar file is read-only.
I formatted a partition on a USB stick in ext2 format for Linux with GParted. I tried to extract a file onto the partition and received a error that said I did not have the permissions to do it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a slicehost VPS with 10GB disk space, and I'm trying to extract a 6.4gb ISO file. Between the ISO and the OS i've got just 761MB to play with. Is there anyway to extract files from within the ISO without needing another 6.4gb?
I've tried mounting the ISO as read/write so I could move files instead of copy, but did not have any luck. See here and here.
Should I just give up, download the iso, then re-upload the files? 6.4gb represents a long time over dsl.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 and just tried to install VLC. I download the .zip file and once it loaded, I tried to extract it. The following error came up:
