ive tried uninstalling it in software sources and in synaptic package manager and ive deleted the .wine folder and all files associated with the program im trying to get rid of except its .iso's which i put in a new folder and ive deleted all the drives i made in winecfg that i needed to run my program and ive tried sudo apt-get wine purge1.3 but its still the 4 wine folders are still there in menu editor and can still partially run the program im trying to get rid of and when i restart its back to the begginning
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, with a wireless HP j4680. That prints on occassion. I've tricked it once by creating a new printer System/Admin/printers, setting the "new" printer to default then deleting the old printer. Not working that way this time. I've search the old forums, a lot of activity in 2007-2008 but nothing since.
Is there a way to defeat HP's efforts to force it's customers to purchase the extremely high, close to 50.00 dollars in my area.
Are there any possible options to archive this w/ the 2.6.34 kernel? I know windows can do this w/ a button and BSD can drop packets when connected to closed ports...is IP personality usable in 2.6? while trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :

The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :
This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. maybe my questions sounds funny: i'm looking for a very small (or better as small as necessary) distro which runs in a virtual box an starts wine.The reason is: we have new laptops in my school runnig windows7 64bit home and we have some software which runs only on WinXP. So why not take a virtualbox wich runs wine to start the old Software?
Lot of questions about WINE... When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done.The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.

The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.
I opened KPackageKit in my new Fedora system. I want to get wine. The description says "A Windows 16/32/64 bit emulator". But wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator.
I am trying to use xfire with wine. I downloaded the xfire installer and i already have wine installed, and i right clicked the xfire installer and opened it with wine, i followed all the steps to install, and when i finished and tried to open xfire, nothing happened.
as soon as i start a windows app or go into the wine config the sounds coming out of ubuntu just stop and the only way to get them back is to restart. does anyone know how to fix this?

I have uploaded a newer edition of WINE through a ppa to 'sysyem-admin-software sources', but would like to know how to update wine so that it utilises this ppa upgrade as i cannot get linux to recognise the update.
I'm trying to uninstall wine. I did everything i could to get it uninstalled, and I think it really is unintsalled, but the problem is when I go to "Applications" the Wine tab is still there, just without the logo. I even deleted the whole .wine folder. now what? how do I get rid of everything? oh and along the way I might have accidently deleted some web fonts? I was't even sure if i did, but more and more things are times new roman, and I know that they are not supposed to be. how do I restore that?
In early 2009 I was running MetaTrader on Kubuntu 8.04. It installed and ran perfectly. I never paid attention to which version of Wine it was using. It was whatever was in the repositories.
A while back I did a clean install of Kubuntu 9.10 and never could get MetaTrader to work. It would appear to install fine but when I try to start it I get the dancing cursor for a few seconds but the program never opens. I tried several versions of Wine with no change.
I went back to Kubuntu 8.04 with a clean install and tried several versions of Wine and it did the same thing.
Now I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10. According to [url] MetaTrader works with Wine 1.1.28. It also refers to a site with installation instructions but they are from 2007 so maybe out of date.
Before I give this a try on this install I want to know now is how can I get MetaTrader to work today with Ubuntu 9.10.

I'm a web programmer and I used to do my stuff on Windows, but the first time I use Ubuntu and Kubuntu I fell in love with it. Now I'm using Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala on my machine. But I have a problem installing IE7 using Wine1.1.14. I need to install IE7 so I can test my web applications.
i done some research and found out that it is possible to run virtual dj through wine. i downloaded the .exe file from the atomix virtual dj url (trial version) and tried to run it with wine. however i got the error non executable bit. i wanted to know if there is a way around this error because i read ubuntu doesnt WANT 3rd party programs because of malware but it does not say it is not possible. from what i understood about the executable bit error the program needs to be trusted and if i got it from the official website how much more trust is needed lol um maybe someone knows a "trusted" download link?
I have installed the repositories of wine but I cant 'force' install the 1.1.31 version. The current wine version sucks big time and none of the games I play work well, hell wine 1.1.41 (or whatever crap the latest version is called) has now caused some serious graphics issues for me. I am having to align my desktop every single time I boot, which is well. Any solutions regarding installing wine 1.1.31 on 10.04?
