Ubuntu Installation :: Repository Contains Different Versions Of Clamav?
Dec 21, 2010
I am looking for explanation:
have two ubuntu 10.10 installations
both have the same update state
both have the same settings in software packet sources[code]....
Still the synaptic has different version of clamav in it, one has 0.96.4 and the other has 0.96.5.Even one other installation of 10.04 has the 0.96.5 in the repository. Why can one installation show different version then the other?
I installed Ubuntu Server 8.10, 9.04, 10.04, until I discovered that the packages of these versions to upgrade and install graphics settings are not available, then install the current version is 11.04 and there I found that repositories responded and set me right. Then the repositories of previous versions are not available? When I install the current version on all packages that I need to back packs and save it for if I need it later.
How do I get the packages and put together a repository itself if others were dashed this is still operating, and maintenance would be needed?
I am semi new to UBUNTU worked a bit with it in the passed on vps and that. but i am currentaly tring to make a module for *Zpanel* i am making an anti virus module and am going to be using clamav. up to now everything has been going smoothly but i have hit massive problem.
I am tring to do this:
Code:
And i get this in return
Code:
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
I dont get any install. and the information i have collect from people say that and install should not be stopped becuase of an depend
So as any one who is semi new would do i then tried installing the depend
Code:
And i get this in return
Code:
E: Package 'phpapi-20060613+lfs' has no installation candidate
So it look like problem after problem
Does any one know why i can not install php5-clamavlib
I have UBUNTU 11.04 desktop (with zpanel installed on it)
*zpanel an open source web hosting panel for windows and NOW LINUX (zpanel has just been release on UBUNTU ONLY ).
I noticed today when I was offered by synaptic to update some packages that there seemed to be two versions available from the same repository (stable). How could that happen?
For instance if I check package "xscreensaver" installed version is 5.30-1+b1 and versions available are; 5.34-1 (testing)5.30-1+deb8u1(stable)5.30-1+b1 (stable)
Below is my /etc/apt/sources.list. I'm not sure why, but rows 1 and 6 are identical except for stable beeing replaced by jessie. Row 3 and 7 are almost same too. Because jessie=stable (at the moment), is there any point with having duplicated rows in sources.list?
Code:
Select alldeb http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ stable main non-free contrib deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ stable-updates main non-free contrib deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main non-free contrib
deb http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free deb http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ jessie contrib non-free mainĀ <--- Same as first row? deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates contrib non-free main
I am using Linpus lite (a fedora based linux) on an ACER ONE notebook. I use a GUI to install/update or remove software. It is called pirut. I believe it a GUI of the yum command. The repository this install program uses is the fedora one. I find the following description of the repository in the menus of that GUI: Name: Fedora Description:Fedora 8 - i386 Mirror list : h[URL]... The problem is the following: The versions I can install from that GUI are outdate. For example, the firefox I have is 2.0.0.14 although the newest one available at the firefox website is 3.6.8. The same with openoffice, gcc and many many other tools.
This is embarrassing: I wanted recently to install a software on my own which was not available at that repository. This software requires recent versions of many tools. It's embarassing to have to update them manually..
I assumed the default repository of fedora should have access to the newest versions. If that is true, then the problem is in my system and not in the repositories. In that case, does any one have a clue on how to fix that problem? Now if the repository I use is indeed outdated, Should I change to another repository? Can anyone indicate which repository is compatible with my system and how to add it?
install of Fedora, always used Debian or Ubuntu before now, and am looking for versions of localepurge, deborphan and debfoster - do they exist in the Fedora Software Repository?
I have a server im trying to use with clamAV to scan it all and with cron job. it worked fine for few days, sending me emails with reports, i was happy. now i get ERR emails and when running manually i get the follwing message output: Script: clamav-cron v. 0.6 - Copyright 2009, Stefano Stagnaro Scanned: /
Today I installed Fedora12 from the DVD, so this is my first contact with all of you. The last years I ran very well with gentoo, but the time for system maintenance got to big the last few times I updated the system, so I decided to change and here am I. The Problem: My system is newly installed from the DVD and I was trying to run the first update, but got the following errormassage by KPackageKit:
Code: Error Type: Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:])
[Code]...
It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.
I installed Fedora 13 in my new system from DVD image. Now I want to update all repositories. I coul'nt update. error message as below: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again
I updated my up to date F12 to F13. I have what must be a 640X480 display with no way to change it. I get an error:
"Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: pgdg90. Please verify its path and try again" on all Yum commands so no yum installs are possible. I don't have the /usr/bin/GLX command So theAIGLX doesn't work.
I just did a fresh install of F14 using a Live USB. I can't do a yum update, I'm getting Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora.I've done a yum clean all and I've tried coping the .repos from another F14 system that's working fine.
This started happening sometime yesterday afternoon on a server that's been trouble free for years.
My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
When i run $ sudo freshclam I get this message ClamAV update process started at Sat Oct 9 12:21:22 2010 WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! I am trying to install clamav from synaptic manager and returns this error: Quote: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libclamav6_0.96.5+dfsg-1ubuntu1.10.10.1_i386.deb: el subproceso dpkg-deb -fsys-tarfile devolvi el cdigo de salida de error 2
I have installed Clamav using the install/remove software utility but it doesn't show up in the Applications menu. I tired to run it from usr/bin folder but still no go.
I'm not to clear on the difference between LTS versions and other versions, but think I may want to go with LTS. Can someone tell me if my thinking is correct given the following situation: I have some very cool, but very expensive software installed with a group license from my school, a school which I am not going to be attending for too much longer. So I want to go as long as possible without reinstalling Ubuntu, because once the product is licensed it will be licensed until I reinstall Ubuntu (or I uninstall the program). So I think this is going to require me keep the Ubuntu version I install as long as possible.
So in this case, should I go with 10.04LTS or should I just install Natty Narwhal and keep that as long as possible? It looks like 10.04LTS will be "supported" longer, but I'm not exactly clear on all that "supported" entails. Presumable it means security and software updates will be available for 10.04LTS for much longer than 11.x versions? So I'm thinking I should go with 10.04LTS
Is my thinking correct in going with 10.04LTS? Edit: It was pointed out that this would be against my contractual agreements. Which I suppose is probably true.
just installed a fresh copy of fedora 12 and getting this error when trying to update the system.
Code:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main()
Running System>Adminstration>Software Udates, I get the following errors

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.
Well, I was just doing an update, and there was an update for git that was held back. I decided to force this update using 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade', and installation of git then failed. At this point in Synaptic - I could see versions listed as 'lucid', 'lucid-security', and then this ppa version. Then I barely managed to remove git - but now, if I try to install it again, *only* the ppa version is listed in Synaptic - no more 'lucid' and 'lucid-security' versions!!! Does anyone have an idea how I could recover the 'lucid', 'lucid-security' versions? I will try to salvage as much of the terminal with the problems as I can below...
Code: /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: 12: dpkg-maintscript-helper: not found dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/git_1%3a1.7.4.1-3~ppa1~lucid2_i386.deb (--unpack):
All of my PCs are set up to either run Ubuntu directly, or are dual boot Ubuntu and some variant of Windows. One of the things I like about this is that in the rare instances that I get a virus I can simply boot into Ubuntu and run ClamAV to remove the virus from there.
I have a friend who recently picked up a nasty virus and we are having a hard time getting his machine to boot at all without all sort of strange behaviors. Under that scenario I can't trust Wubi to work correctly. Soo....
Is it possible for me to create a bootable CD, DVD or USB drive from my machine? I'd like to use my machine because I can update the virus definitions before I create the image and then use that to clean his machine.
I have Ubuntu 8.04 CD & I want to install it. I'm still learning the basics and I don't want to upgrade the version. You know, the newer the version the more space it takes.
My main computers are still on 8.04 and 8.10 versions, and it's certainly time to upgrade with a new LTS version 10.04. So, what's the best way to upgrade? I certainly want to maintain my current setup and data for apps like my email (I use sylpheed) and Firefox.
Should I just use Update Manager? It is currently offering me 9.04, for example, does that mean I will need to upgrade through each version a step at a time, or can I jump some versions?
I am new to linux and I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop. Thing is, I have both Ubuntu and Windows 7 running and everything was fine. But there was an update that Ubuntu did on the system, and now when my pc boots, I have 2 series ( 2 times Ubuntu, 2 times Ubunti safemode, 2 times memory test, 2 times memory test safemode) of choices for Ubuntu and one for windows 7.
I need to use autoconf 2.13 and i was wondering if i can install it on the side of my current version and if yes how can i switch between them afterwards?
I'm trying to install Eclipse from synaptic but it only has version 3.2 while there's a version 3.5 out there. How do I get synaptic to provide the latest versions of anything?
