View 1 RepliesI am trying to connect my 2nd Gen Ipod to Xubuntu and import my music collection onto the Ipod. I am having real problems with this. Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

Edit : Itouch = first generation 8gb Edit 2: I would like to create a sticky thread that helps new users answer questions about ipods. Will a moderator please let me know what i should include in their opinion? ex. using wine to run itunes, gtkpod and how to set it up, using mm players like banshee and songbird... what version of ubuntu works best with the ipods.
I've been trying to get my iPod touch (8GB, jailbroken) to connect with gtkpod iPod manager. But whenever I try to load the iPod I get this message.
Quote:
iPod Database Import Failed: 'illegal seek offset 0 (length 4) in file '/media/ipod/test/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB'.'
tranferring Ipod audiobooks (m4b) files to my Ipod. I can't get them to transfer with GTKpod or Rhythmbox. I did manage to get a file copied, but it didn't show up on the Ipod.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.04 as I heard the ipod touch support in Banshee / rhythmbox was as good as itunes for synbching music files. However with the base install I was unable to transfer to my ipod by dragging files over to it.I have now spent a week trying different things from google searches etc. This has left me with a system that now mounts the ipod but doesn't display it in banshee or rhythmbox I was mostly aiming to get this working .. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iPod touch was working fine in 10.04 and since the upgrade to Maverick, I cannot see the songs in it in Rhythmbox or Banshee. In Rhythmbox it appears empty and crashes Rhythmbox when I try to right click it to see the properties. In Banshee the songs appear as 'other'. Trying to read it in GTKPod yields the following error: iPod Database failed: Error during parsing of file /home/user/.gvfs/user's iPod/iTunes_Control/iTunes.I tried re-installing the gstreamer plugins, and also libimobiledevice to no avail. Also tried re-installing the ipod plugin for Rhythmbox and nothing there either

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have wired internet on my ubuntu 10.10, wireless on my Ipod touch. I go to places > connect to server > SSH, fill in port 22, ipod's ipaddress, "root"
and it gives me the error: cannot find host "sftp://root@ipod's ip/" could not be shown (or something like that) make sure your proxy settings are correct (or something like that) every time I try to connect to ipod... (jailbroken > open ssh ok!)
I used Ubuntu way back in the 6.X days, then quit for a while, and now I'm back, and boy have things changed! Anyway, I'm trying to get my parents to use Ubuntu, since Windoze runs super-slow (and my mom is a "download everything on the Internet and I won't get viruses, right?" type), and one of my concerns is getting my mom's iPod to work properly under Ubuntu.
Now, I know that there is no iTunes for *Nix (tragic but unfortunately true), so I'm trying to use a Ubuntu-native program to do this (of course, if anyone knows how to make iTunes work, that would probably be optimal, but until that...). I've tried using Amarok and gtkpod, and run into a couple of problems. If anyone can help me out, that would be fantastic.
1) I read various guides for using Amarok (including this one, this one, and this one), and I get to the point at which you go Settings -> Configure Amarok. I am told there should be a "Media Devices" item on the list on the left, and it is simply not there. What's the deal?
2) I tried using gtkpod, and while it seemed to work a bit, I tried using the "Copy files from iPod to music library" feature, and it segfaulted in the middle. I'm not entirely confident using programs that are prone to segfaults, and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light.
My mom's iPod is a 3rd gen iPod Nano 8GB Silver (with video). My OS is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. My Amarok version is 2.3.0. My gtkpod version is 0.99.14.
go into your ubuntu software center and download this thing called Arista Transcoder. Next Download gtkpod with synaptic or apt. It'll probably want some plugins when you initially try to encode a video to mv4. I cannot remember for the life of me which plugin I used, some gstreamer plugins and one of them was an "extra". Anyways, I got pissed off when I found out libfaac and libfaad got canned but was determined to make this work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a 120 GB iPod which is access with gtkpod.Everything worked fine since I got it 2 years ago.Yesterday, however, I was unable to play files. The iPod would simply skip them as if they were 0-sec tracks. When trying to access the iPod with gtkpod, I got an error message about the Music folder not being found. So I thought: Let's rework the whole thing. I opened the iPod folder in nautilus, deleted everything and ejected and restarted the iPod. Then I transferred one album to the iPod. Everything seemed OK. But the same thing happened again: all the tracks seem to be empty. Now, when opening gtkpod it states it's missing the photo directory. What should I do? I already used iTunes on a WIN machine to recreate the system. But the problem continues.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying desperately to try to sync my iPod to play songs from it and to add songs to it. I've tried Rhythmbox, Amarok, and iTunes through Wine, but none of them will even acknowledge that a device has been connected. When I connect my iPod while in Rhythmbox, a device called "Unknown Device" pops up for just a second, then disappears. This computer is running only Ubuntu now so I'm pretty desperate to find a way to be able to sync my iPod.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with the last.fm iPod scrobbling function this week and noticed that when it scrobbles it attempted to scrobble *every* track listened ever and not just the scrobbles since you last listened. This doesn't happen on the Windows/Mac version - so I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue or is experiencing anything different?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having a nightmare mounting my iPod to 11.04. It's just one of the older 4gig ipods I've been desperately trying to mount on as my only computers run Ubuntu.
First it wouldn't even try, it gave me the superblock error. Then I stupidly proceeded to format the iPod with disk utility, thinking that the file format was to fault. Now, it does appear in my home folder, but clicking on the iPod icon, it gives me- "unable to mount Ipod : mount: special device /dev/sdc2 does not exist".
I am using ubuntu 10.10 and I have a ipod shuffle.I was using itunes to sync my ipod and load the songs on it.I wish to use a similar solution on linux platform. I know I could use wine and run itunes on it.Any other software or solution ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBeing tired of my FAT32 partitions on my 80GB Classic, I had it reformatted on a Macintosh to HFS+ (Mac-formatted) at the Apple Store. As per the abundance of threads online, I also had them disable journaling through the Mac's Disk Utility and it appeared it was ready for Ubuntu. I added the UUID to fstab to allow write privileges. Due to the issues I heard with getting it to mount in Banshee on 64-bit Karmic Koala, I used the killall -9 nautilus command and successfully got Banshee to read and mount the iPod. After syncing my iPod, I verified that the content successfully transferred as the disk was now showing a large portion of the drive in use (presumably from the new media). After disconnecting my iPod, from both Banshee and from Nautilus, the iPod presumably safely unmounts and disconnects giving me the okay to unplug it. Whether I unplug it or not, after the OK to Disconnect progress bar completes, the iPod freezes (showing the silver Apple logo). After a while, it seems to turn itself back on, but doesn't show any media on the device. In fact, when I select 'About', it shows 0GB used and 0GB free (strange!).
I've been to the Apple Store about three times to have them reformat it and start over as I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong along the way. The data seems to be ON the iPod as I can play it back through Banshee (and on GTKpod), but the iPod menu itself doesn't seem to recognize anything and I can't access the music through the iPod. I think the iPod database may be corrupted, but I don't understand why this is not corrected with a full restore and why I seem to be able to access the music through Ubuntu.
(P.s. I do NOT want to have to go back to a Windows-formatted, FAT32, iPod.)
(P.p.s. I changed the permissions to my user rather than the 99 or something it was before. Also, whenever I load the iPod in Banshee, it shows all the songs on the iPod.)
i am working with ubuntu 10.04 and have ipod touch 3g.i'v connected the ipod and was able to browse the ipod directories, but i wanted to manage music and video so i have installed gtkpod package.it did not reconized my ipod, even it was mounted.so i started trying all sort of stuff and ended up with broken ipod support...so i removed all ipod related packages from synaptic and reinstalled them.but now, i cannot even mount the ipod. i get the error:
Quote:
Unable to mount ipod Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-afc" (No such file or directory)i think i left something out in synaptic, but there are many ipod related packages, wont it get messed up even more?
I plugged in my jailbroken ipod touch (firmware 3.0), and I can get my pictures off it, but not my music. I do have the plugins installed, but rhythmbox just isn't recognizing my music.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iPod nano (3rd generation), and I'm having issues in 10.04 (not sure if its closed to 10.04 as I cannot test on older vers.): The iPod is detecting fine and all programs recognize the iPod (Banshee, Rhythmbox and the file manager) with all the files. But when I go to delete music, the program will delete the files on the programs manager but not on my iPod. iPod is connecting but not actually making any changes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWindows failed on me, so I've swapped to Ubuntu 10.04, and I'm having issues with the media players.
Rhythmbox was reading old ID3 tags, meaning all my music collection appeared messed up since I had apparently only been editing the newer tags in iTunes when I was on Windows. I tried using EasyTAG but then as soon as I loaded the music in Rhythmbox, it would just revert back to the old useless tags again.
I read around, and Banshee came highly recommended (so did Amarok, but that runs awful for me. :/) and I really like the layout and general appearance of Banshee, and it doesn't seem to screw with the file names or anything like Rhythmbox was doing, but my iPod does not appear at all.
It's a fairly new 160GB Classic iPod. Rhythmbox detects and edits files in it fine. Hipo iPod Management Tool does not detect it either.
however I've managed to hash up the iPod database using gtkpod, as it seemed to come up with some error, which it quite often seems to do. It all semed normal unitl I ejected the device, as, upon ejection, it appears to not have any tracks or videos on, only games, however I can tell you that all the tracks are still there. The only other issue is my windows box is out of commision, and my laptop doesn't have enough space to hold 80g of music, and need the iPod soon for many presentations, which rules out sending it back to apple.

'm about to order an iPod 160gb classic and I was wondering if it plays nice with Iucid lynx and which song management app your using. I made use of the search functions and most posts that deal with the classic are a few years old. Just wanted to see if syncing the classic has been made easier in the past few years.
