Nov 18, 2010

I created a the class like this for shaping the packets with a specified bandwidth rate.....

tc qdisc del dev eth0 root
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 15
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:0 classid 1:1 htb rate 750kbit ceil 750kbit
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:1 classid 1:3 htb rate 600kbit ceil 750kbit prio 0

For Our Requirement:-

I dont want to specify the bandwidth rate strictly like this rate750kbit ceil 750kbit,based on whatever speed is coming which should allocate the bandwidth rate for particular class...I need one application for finding the upcoming bandwidth & Is any other method is there for specify the bandwidth rate in a classes.

I previously had 32 bit ubuntu and 64 bit now, same issueWhen I boot up ubuntu, my volume is sat at maximum which is really annoying since I have the sound through hdmi pass through via onkyo receiver and loudspeakers. Even when I turn volume down, the volume meter is not at top, but at where it was last time, but the volume is still at top and decreases to whatever volume I had at last time at first click on volume down.

Ubuntu :: Getting Maximum Number Of Clients Reached?

Feb 18, 2010

In the last week or so, I've frequently been running out of X server client connection slots and getting "Maximum number of clients reached" errors. For example, I'm getting it right now and I'm running 3 pterms, Chrome, and Thunderbird; I've even killed my panel. 'xwininfo -root -children' produces what seems to be an absurd number of X clients (150-ish, when it's able to make a connection), even immediately after Gnome/Xfce startup.

It doesn't take long. A day at most. I've had this system up and running for months, and this just started happening. I did install some X development libraries (x11proto-core-dev, libmotif-dev, x11proto-print-dev, and x11proto-xext-dev plus their dependencies) about two weeks ago, but this problem has not been happening that long. I've installed other packages, but nothing that would seem to have any relation to this problem. I've logged out and in, rebooted, and changed from Gnome to Xfce, and none of the changes helped.

Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Get Near Theoretical Network Maximum Speed

Mar 10, 2010

With three 1.5TB, 7200RPM drives in RAID0, they thrash. And yet the network out, 4 gigabit ports LAG'd together to create a single 4 gigabit connection, can't even push a single gigabit a second.

Here's what I've done so far:

I've enabled jumbo frames on the bond: ifconfig bond0 mtu 9000

Tweaked SAMBA performance:

Tweaked hdparm:

I haven't enabled jumbo frames on the switch but I'm almost sure that won't help me much after trying all this.

I'm running out of ideas here guys. The clients connected are pulling down images in both Ghost and WIM (ImageX) format. Large files too, upwards of 12 gigabytes.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Unable To Detect Maximum Resolution

Jun 20, 2010

Ubuntu 8.04 used to detect my display resolutions fine, but this version is unable to detect my max. resolution and I get lock-ups when I use the live disk without the "nomodeset" option.
My display config is:
lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

Detected resolutions (with nomodeset option):
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 2048 x 2048
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 267mm x 200mm
800x600 85.1 + 85.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
1024x768 60.0*
832x624 74.6
640x480 85.0 75.0 72.8 75.0 59.9
720x400 85.0 70.1
640x400 85.1
640x350 85.1

The resolution 1152x864 is missed. This was a bug I had earlier reported on Intrepid (9.04).
My OS:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
I downloaded this 2 days ago. Also I was stumped at no kernel messages on any virtual terminal! How can I enable the printks?

So far I haven't found a settings panel for unity. There has to be a way to bump up the maximum.

Ubuntu :: Settings To Change Maximum Allowed Speed Of CPU

Jul 11, 2011

I have an AMD Athlon Regor 2.8 Ghz Dual Core CPU. About a month ago I overclocked the bad boy to 3.36 Ghz, on stock voltage. Since I have an AMD chip, I have the Cool and Quiet feature. With CnQ on, it never shows more than 2.8 Ghz (my stock speed), even on Full Load. However, with it off, it shows the correct 3360 Mhz all the time. I would like to keep CnQ, as well as my overclock. I've read in forums that it's okay to do that, that CnQ will automatically clock up to overclock when needed. But for me, with CnQ on, it only hits 2.8. Nothing more. Is this an Ubuntu problem? Is there a setting where I can change the maximum allowed speed of my CPU?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Changing Screen Resolution To Maximum Settings?

The screen resolution is too low and is set at the highest option available (1024x768 which is a 4:3 aspect ratio). The HP uses the new Intel i3-330m chipset with on-board Intel HD graphics. The system is capable of 1366x768 resolution (16:9) - so how do I get it there? xorg.conf looks real generic - nothing specific to Intel.

Ubuntu Servers :: Maximum Of 1024 File Descriptor Limit?

May 4, 2011

I'm running nginx for static files and as a proxy server for a comet IM server on ubuntu Jaunty. On high load I'm hitting a limit of 1024 file descriptors. I've tried increasing this limit but still can't pass 1024. Does "more /proc/sys/fs/file-nr" gives me the global count of used file descriptors? Why do I see a maximum of 1024 open file descriptors in /proc/sys/fs/file-nr if this is the global count for the machine and each user should have at least 1024 allowed file descriptors by default? Is there a way to increase the limit while the server is running?

Some relevant info on my server:
sudo more /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
1024038001
sudo sysctl fs.file-max
fs.file-max = 38001
sudo nano /etc/security/limits.conf
...
* hard nofile 30000
* soft nofile 30000

I also added this to /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf:
worker_rlimit_nofile 10240;
Uncommented the following line in /etc/pam.d/su:
session required pam_limits.so
