How can I change NTFS partition size from Linux (not installing any software under Windows)? Is there any software, which can help me on this? It's desirable that this was some Gnome package.

While installing ubuntu alongside windows using wubi, we are allowed to have the hard disk size a maximum of 30 gb. is there some method to increase the size of the partion?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a two Hard disk one of which is 160GB & other is 500GB. In 160GB HD I had installed fedora 13 & in 500GB Windows 7. There was my unluck that the whole of partion of 500GB were convered into dynamic disk so that i was unable to access other partion of 500GB HD. i searched for that but ultimately i was unsuccessful. Now I decide to format the C: drive (of 500GB HD).C: drive was 80GB size and there was a system information partition of 100MB created on windows seven installation.Now on installation of fedora 14 in 500GB (at partition 80GB + 100MB) i am unble to access other D: & e: drive. In Disk utility of fedora it is showing 414GB free.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a linux semi-noob who just got the idea that it would be fun to play with Arch Linux.I was dual-booting Windows and OpenSuSE, and I installed Arch by shrinking the Windows partition and putting a new logical partition in between the windows partition and the swap partition I already have.Unfortunately, opensuse still thinks that its root filesystem is on /dev/sda7 so it fails to boot b/c it is looking at an ntfs filesystem that I used for document sharing.If someone has a solution, that will save me from having to reinstall opensuse.

Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.

I guess that's because I can't unmount it. And... I guess my Ubuntu won't work if I unmount it? xD
So... I heard that I could use a Gparted live CD to do this.
The only problem is that I can't boot from a cd/dvd drive.
So, is there a option to change the partition size while running Ubuntu?
Or is there a option to somehow unlock all BIOS settings?
When I try to acess the BIOS settings it ask for a password, and I just press enter... And I come to a menu where I can't change anything. Is this because of wrong password? Or is the password right but everything is blocked?
I mean, I can't change boot priotiy to cd/dvd just HDD and LAN.

This must be because ntfs is not case sensitive as regards determining a file name. However, it can use and remember whatever case you want to use. So I can change the letter case in the file's name in two steps: saving the file with a different name first and then renaming it again with the original name and the letter cases I want to use.

Works great, because it means I can share files between Windows and Ubuntu hassle-free. However, any file created on or saved to the NTFS partition automatically has its owner set as "root". Is it possible to set the default owner to me (aaron)? Or does it have to be root on NTFS?

The other way the size could be fixed is by going to edit > preferences > preview and just do never for each drop down but I don't want to lose the preview effect.

After a few weeks, I set the visual appearance setting to normal (in the gui desktop). Doing this required me to install third party graphics drivers from nvidia. in installed fine, and my gui desktop still functions as I would expect, however, all of the virtual terminals now have a much larger font size, as does the ubuntu boot logo.

That works well with "the Launcher" on the left but has no effect on the icons in the Shortcuts menu that appears when you hit the "Super" key. These are now so huge they run off the left of the screen (see attached screen capture). There is nothing obviously different from Compiz in the gconf Configuration Editor either.When you go into one of the sub-menus (e.g. More Apps) the icons are fine and fit to screen. PS, I like slightly bigger fonts and icons by default in everything and achieve this through a smaller Monitor resolution.
