View 1 RepliesI tried installing 10.04 via Wubi on a friend's notebook and have hit problems with the display. The installation seemed to proceed OK (took ages to download / install - left it running overnight) until it came to boot to Ubuntu. The GRUB menu appears OK, but choosing Ubuntu leads to a blank screen with some icons at the bottom, which is displayed for a few seconds, then the (login?) screen just shows rolling display, like an out-of-tune analogue TV. I suspect that I need a graphics driver or something? The notebook is a logiQ notebook, with 128MB SiS Mirage-3 graphics.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded the firmware from http://www.otit.fi/~crope/v4l-dvb/af..._files/4.95.0/ and placed it in /lib/firmware. I'm using Karmic. MythTV and Kaffeine both see the devices. They attempt to tune but I can't get any channels out because they can't tune.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a program to extract a single instrument (guitar) for the purpose of learning to play it.
I don't care if it costs $ or not as long as it is native to UBUNTU 9.10 .
I'm trying to capture audio from a stream, NOT from the mic. This is what I'm doing: Start Audacity, push its record button, play a song. It shows that it is recording but when I play back the results, all background noise, conversation, etc, is in the recording as well as the audio from the song. If the mic is unplugged, I cannot record what I hear coming from the sound card (as in what you hear from the sound card is what you get). I got directions on how to do what I want here ( Looking (maybe) for audio mixer for use with Pulse Audio - Page 2 Posts # 4 and 5) but it's not permanent. I got the instructions in post #11 from that same page to make such a change permanent. I tried using the instructions to make the change permanent (I backed up my default.pa just in case something went wrong) and these are the changes I had made:
Code:
### Load audio drivers statically (it's probably better to not load
### these drivers manually, but instead use module-hal-detect --
### see below -- for doing this automatically)
#load-module module-alsa-sink

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 9.10 I can't change my login screen, only edit the auto-login preferences. I have one I'd like to use already, and am unable to figure out how to replace the new login screen with the one I've downloaded. It used to be simpler in 8.10 which is what I used, there was a menu for it under System and Preferences.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI remember back with 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, and I think even Ubuntu 9.xx I was able to change the login theme but now I cannot do that anymore with 10.04.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
If you do not understand what I mean, look here:

Before I could have installed all those themes and switched between them, even modify how they look...
Before you can just go to sys>prefs>sound
and you can change it there, but in 10.4 it doesn't work that way. how would one go about putting there own custom login sound?
I remember back when Ubuntu was young(about 3 years ago) and I could change the login screen via gdm. How do I change it in Lucid?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI managed to change the background by copying over a new image file to some directory. However, there is still the big boring login window. Is there any way to change that? I'd like something darker, and smaller. I copied over the image file to /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png My image file was actually a jpeg file, but copying it over to /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png posed no problems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter having been seduced by Windows 7 I have finally come back to Ubuntu (10.04), imagine my shock at having found that the Dev's for god only knows what reason have removed the ability to change the GDM login theme. I have downloaded a couple of themes from Gnome look and want to install / apply the theme, ideally with an app with a GUI interface.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI really hate 10.04's login screen. Ugh. And I don't like that it lists all the users on the box. What happened to those clean-looking login screens, that just prompt you to type a username? Can I change the login screen appearance, somehow? I seem to recall that was possible, though I can't find anything in the preferences.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I decided to customise my Ubuntu by installing my own picture over the default picture used in the log-in screen. I did a search and found it (in /usr/share/backgrounds). I looked into it a bit and found that the image was a .jpg with the name changed to a .png extension. I though I copied the title of it but must have hit the wrong button.
I put my picture in the folder. I then copied the name of the file, then deleted it. I went to paste the name over my new picture, and then found that I had hit the wrong button to copy it. When I delete things I usually hold shift to perma-delete it, so it isn't in the bin. Oh btw, I did this before in 10.04 and it worked in case anyone wants to do the same. It just needs to be a .jpg file, renamed to end with .png
