Mar 6, 2011I was recently learning to compile software from source code(tar.gz) files,he instructions told me to extract the files to the desktop. After I did this, I now see the folder on the desktop with the files in it, and I am unable to delete the folder. The error message says "there was an error deleting copying". Error removing file:Permission denied. Has anyone ever experienced this? I've run out of ideas as to how to get rid of it

Jun 17, 2011Running kubuntu 11.04x64 w/ xrender and folder-view plasmoid:
I cannot view "open with" for directories on the desktop (but it is visible w/in dolphin file structure) and whenever I try to rename folders on the desktop it crashes and restarts (but the rename is successful and no open windows crash).
This glitch is reproducible under OpenGL and Xrender; had to switch over to xrender after a recent system update that seems to slow my computer to a crawl after a little time and kept it cause it seems much smoother and crisper.
Is there any way to fix these issues or is there an alternative to the folder-view plasmoid to view a folder content on the desktop that is more stable?

2. What is Akondi? There are tons of processes which have Akonadi in their name, and it seems to be using up lots of memory.Can I disable these somehow, or is it safe to do so?
3. Any general tips on how to reduce the amount ram that is used on startup? I am using somewhere around 750MB on startup, which is about double the amount Gnome uses. After a few hours of use, Xorg uses close to 1GB of memory.
4. Whenever I get a notification, they don't delete themselves, so when I click on the (i), I see tons of notifications. Is there a way to get them to delete themselves after they have been shown?

Oct 1, 2009Is there a way in SuSE 11.1 to have the conventional desktop, instead the plasma desktop? I thought that installing KDE 3.5 will fix it, but I was wrong. I really don't want to download back SuSE 11.0, just to have my old desktop layout. SuSE developers should at least leave it as an option than to force people to install it

Aug 29, 2010When booting opensuse 11.2 or 11.3 there is automatically created a folder in /media to mount my external usb drive (in /media/disk). The problem I have is that sometimes these folders are not automatically removed when I shut down. On the next time boot this device is mounted at /media/disk-1 or /media/disk-2 which throws off for instance Krusader or Amarok. Also the folders that are not removed seem to have really strong permissions such that I can't even browse into them in Krusader or Dolphin. I have to manually clean the /media folder as super user so that when I reboot, they are in /media/disk. Does anyone know how to ensure that opensuse removes the folder(s) upon shutdown?

It's not a serious problem at all, I can live with it, but if there was a way to remove this yellow square from my pretty desktop I would like to hear about it .
I tried clicking and right clicking on it; it does nothing except I can access a tiny menu with - apparently - enlarge, refresh and configure buttons. Only the configure button (a spanner) does something, it opens a "configure" box which does not have a "remove" or "delete" option. Rebooting does not remove it.
