General :: Move / Copy A Logical Volume From One Volume Group To Another?
Dec 1, 2010I'm rearranging a bunch of disks on my server at home and I find myself in the position of wanting to move a bunch of LVM logical volumes to another volume group. Is there a simple way to do this? I saw mention of a cplv command but this seems to be either old or not something that was ever available for linux.

Transfer rate to the server is approx 100 KB/s
Whilst transfer rate from the server 16 MB/s
If I mount it from Places>connect to server. Both to and from speeds are 16 MB/s. Why is it so slow when mounted through fstab?

May 23, 2011After update 11.2 to 11.4 copy jobs from netware 5.1 volume to local disk linux system does crash after a couple of seconds. I might have to do if there a allot of small files in that job. If happend system reboot is required because unmount netware volume nor delete copied files to the local linux system is not possible. Recompiling ncpfs package not possible because error free source package ncpfs version 2.2.6 might not be availble.

Feb 20, 2011Is there a method at the command line to copy files from one location to another and retain the source files group and user?I'm migrating some MySQL files from one machine to another.I want to back-up the original files in the directory presently. They have owner:group of mysql, some have owner:group root:mysql and so on. To copy them under cli or Nautilus everything changes to root for I execute sudo cp or gksudo nautilus and copy via gui.
Since it is MySQL data I could simply do a dump of the database and restore it on the other machine. But there's about 20 db's and I want to do this via a copy for it will be faster - at least that is what I think.

Jun 5, 2011So I just had a quick question on logical volumes and such with ubuntu. I've been looking into setting up a storage array of 4 2tb hard drives for media storage in my house but have ran into a wall with with sort of array i should use, whether it be setting up a full raid system (raid 5 or 10 most likely) or using LVM for stripping. The one thing with LVM however, is that there is no parity or redundancy built into it in case 1 hard drive fails. I was wondering if it was possible to create something similar to that of LVM stripping, but instead the logical volume is sorted into whole individual files, not stripping them across the array. That way, if one drive fails, sure, i lose the contents of the one drive, but the rest of the content isn't lost and I have no loss of space because there is no inherent parity.

May 5, 2010I am upgrading a QNAP NAS - the unit only had 1 drive to begin with. I have taken this original drive out and hooked it to my ubuntu system and when I boot my machine ubuntu sees the volume that was the volume the qnap shared. and it sees MOST of the files. but when I go to copy stuff it gives errors stating things like 'can't copy data2.cab' - when I go the directory where it claims it can't copy data2.cab there is no data2.cab.
Thing is I am pretty sure there *IS* a data2.cab ... just that the rights or something are such that I cannot see / copy it. is there a simple command I can run on the *entire* drive that will set the ownership of ALL files so that I can see and move them? I just need to copy all these files over to the upgraded nas and then I can reformat this drive.
