There's a podcast on the internet I love, and I would like to have them all in the same playlist. This podcast doesn't put their episodes in a playlist. Are there any software or scripts I can use for this to work so I can simply just type in the http://url/directory, and have all the mp3 files in a playlist. Or if the playlist part isn't possible, then at least a text documents with all the links?
View 4 RepliesI have recently got a new car, which as a USB port to connect either an iPOD or Storage Device. For some reason I decided to get a portable 500GB HDD to put my music on. When you plug in an iPOD you get the nice options to search by genre, artist, etc. You don't get this option with a storage device, just the option to go through the folders. The car stereo will read playlists. I'm wondering whether there's an easy way to create playlists so I get these options:
Artists > Artists A-D
Artists > Artists E-G
etc
Genre > Genre A-D
etc
I know rhythmbox can do this manually (as can iTunes) but surely there's an easier way. I'm planning to keep adding more music so an automated process would be nice to keep the playlists refreshed. Where the playlists are saved onto my HDD rather than having to save them one by one.
I was tried to compile the brl-cad for my IA32 machine. I install all the GNU auto series (autoconf, automake, libtool). Then I run sh autogen.sh asnstructed by the installation guide. But after the preparation finish, I check my directory. The make script does not exist. And everything broke down here. When I tried to run "make", I got this feed back: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.(of course, there is no make file)I had run every step by using root account. Hence, there should not be any restriction on operation.

I manage it all through rhythmbox and I've decided to separate the wheat from the chaff by paring down stuff I don't want and throwing all the desirable stuff into a big (~1,800 file) playlist file saved to my desktop.My question to you is, is there a hack that'll let me cp all the file entries in this playlist from their various original directories and into one target directory? Playlist format is:

We used VoilaSVN for SVN search. Some time ago it stopped working for an unknown reason. I was searching for a solution, but the voila project seems to be dead, the web pages are not available. I assume the problem is in indexing. Does anybody know how to generate the index directory?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to generate a list of my music directory folder structure WITHOUT the files included. I have my music directory set up in a hierarchy of Artist>Album>Files, and I just want to generate a list of the folders because that will, in effect, output a list of what albums I have by what artists, which is ultimately what I'm after. I did some looking on the internet through various forums over the past few days and found two ideas that looked promising, but ended up being not exactly what I needed. The first was to generate a .txt file based off of a shell ls command:
ls -R [music directory name] >> ~/mymusiclist.txt
That's great, except that it also includes the 40,000+ individual music files by name. I'm not about to invest that much time editing the files out of the list when I know there has to be an easier way.The second idea I came upon involved using the extglob function. I tried enabling extglob and using it to input a "negative wildcard" into the above method to remove anything .mp3 from the returned list, but extglob didn't play well in that context. I'm not a command line wizard, so it's entirely possible that I'm missing something fairly obvious. In fact, I'm sure I am. So this is a great opportunity for me to learn something new. If anybody knows of a command line way to do this, I'd love to know it. Or, even better, if anybody knows of an app that can do this, even better. I'm not above installing a secondary music player just to import the library once and get my list.

I am trying to force some specific persistent tuning on it so that the OS and IRQs are all on one CPU socket and then I can run my Application on the other CPU socket (4 CPUs) using the taskset command.
I have been reading up on this mainly at [url] and having some success. But, I have one IRQ that is not active until my application runs that I want to force it to be on CPU 4.
And so I believe I can do this by setting /proc/irq/default_smp_affinity to 10. But, I do not have such a file on my system. How can I create this file at boot time properly?
As I'm gonna transfer large amount of data folders from one hard drive to another, I wanna make sure that the transfer has not corrupted the data. how could I generate MD5SUMs of entire directory including sub directories, in a single file and later, how could I verify with the data I've just transferred.

when I try to open a directory via the Places menu in gnome desktop (Places->home|music|...) the default music player which comes with Ubuntu is opened (I don't know why), but not the directory.Do you know, guys, why does this happen and/or how can I solve it? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.

So having taken said interest I've began to study it lightly at first, trying CMUS as my music player (A text based music player ran through terminal). I've also gotten a "Basic" (in the loosest of terms) understanding of how to import music through said program. Other than such, I know how to change directory, and see files via ls commands.

I will sometimes elude me as to the full boundaries of it's uses; So I come asking this, amongst all of you does anyone live within a text based environment for extended periods? Days? Weeks? Years? What advantage does living a text based computer lifestyle give you against GUI folks?
I've found several posts discussing how to do this in with the terminal, but none exactly fit what I am trying to do. And since I'm still very new, I was hoping for some help.
I have a parent directory called "Music." The subdirectories all start with "artist", some go further as in "artist/album/cd1". So right now the structure varies in the following ways code...
How can I move all the files (or the file types that I choose) to the parent directory "music"?

I have a large (~60GB) collection of music in various formats on my hard drive. It is organised in the form Artist/Album/*.ext
The formats include M4A, FLAC, MP3, and OGG. What I would like to do is convert the entire directory, keeping subfolders and ID3 information intact. I would preferably like to be able to do this with a single script.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64. I am fairly adept with BASH and the command line, so I foresee no problems there. If I have to write my own script, these are the things I'm not sure about:
(a) maintaining the directory structure.
(b) how to tell the script which converter tool to use (LAME, FLAC, etc.
(c) keeping ID3 tags.
I'm looking for a script that can be run regularly with Cron.
Check a folder for Rar files every few minutes, Unrar if present, and delete the left over files once done.
Be able to specify the directory of which folder to watch within the script.
Run an extension white list (.avi, .mkv, .mp4) and blacklist (rar files) of files to be moved.
Specify within the script which folder to move found files to.
I've seen a few online that does some of this or much more than this but I'm looking for something that just does this in a simple and efficient way... (Also for the life of me, I just can't get how to edit this to do what I'm looking for)
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.

I am trying to emulate a .bat file I have on Windows. The script turns all the mp3 files into a m3u file.So far I have found the command "ls -1 >playlist.m3u *.mp3" this works great but what I want is to drag a file into the folder an album is in and then double click and it will run the command. I tried making a launcher and put that command on it, it seems to open up a terminal window but no playlist.m3u is generated. Could you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Recently (last month or so) I have found that on restarting my ubuntu system I need to manually restart the avahi-daemon in order for the music players to be able to 'see' the music server. I think avahi-damon is running when ubuntu first starts up. The output of a ps aux shows:

I'd like to understand why I need to restart the avahi-daemon and either solve this or learn a way to automate restarting it on system boot up so I don't have to do it manually each time. My system is ubuntu 9.10 64 bit and the version of avahi-daemon is 0.6.25
1-When entering a music CD, video or files, any programs or music or video players and desktop are closed are removed all the icons and I can not open any program only on firefox, I can not see the files or anything . (NOTE CD-rom is in mint condition)
2-I graphics effects ruin the entire desktop and when it is in fact no graphic still looks bad everything looks pixelated or striped like when flex is damaged or something is damaged and is in perfect condition.
Now I'm going with the version 10.04 of ubuntu:
1-I have the same problem with the CD I had in 9.10, except that in the 10/04 I can open some programs with the Emphaty and monitor systems.
2-When you close the laptop when I open the screen looks as if the flex embers damaged or broken screen (when it is of course) and I have no other to reset it.
3-When you drive about 30 minutes using computed with any open programs (Firefox, Emphaty, emesene, movie player, Gnome player) to close it or minimize it gets super slow and sometimes if I Friza and then to turn it off and repeat history.
4-When I'm watching a movie or a video with movie player is super slow (just what I'm playing does not the OS) as if Lageado and stuff. But with Gnome looks pretty good player just the video looks very small and I can not put it full screen. Certainly in a Dell Latitude C610 Pentium III-Processor: 1000/700mhz-Memory: 512MB Graphics-Card: 16mb.
I recently got an iPod touch 2nd gen. I plugged it in and it immediately showed up in Rhythmbox. I dragged and dropped music files to the iPod icon listed under devices on the left hand pane. The files ARE on the iPod, I can confirm by finding them on the device in Nautilus. The problem is, they do not show up in the music library on the actual iPod. Did I miss something, or is there a step I must take to get them to show up in the iPod's music library so I can play them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been building my digital music collection for some time and used to house it on a local drive with no quality issues. A while back I built myself a file server using ubuntu and mdadm in a raid1 configuration to protect against potential drive failure. I link my iTunes library to the music files via a samba share and everything works great on the surface. I've started to notice that random songs are becoming corrupted with pops clicks and silent pauses. I'll even re-download an album and notice that it's corrupted a few weeks later. Now I'm at a loss to what is causing this issue; I ignored it at first but it seems to be getting worse and more widespread as time goes on.
Do you think this could be caused by mdadm? It reports that all is fine via 'cat /process/mdstat' but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for if there were syncing issues. The other possibility is that I have iTunes set to keep my music folder organized for me, but I've never heard of it actually corrupting the files it shuffles around. The bottom line is that my library is getting crappier as time goes on and I cannot stand for that!
I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? View 2 Replies View RelatedFor a long time, I've been downloading music from the Amazon MP3 Store (using Windows). I had hoped the Ubuntu One Store would allow me to use Ubuntu for downloading instead of booting into Windows. To date I've only bought and downloaded one album using the Ubuntu Store. Two reasons, namely that the albums are cheaper in the Amazon Store (at least the ones I've bought have been cheaper) and the files are hidden after download from the Ubuntu One Store.
I was reading last night that Banshee will be the new default music player in Ubuntu 11.04, so, I downloaded and installed Banshee which I discovered has the option to let me download from the Amazon Store (something I've not managed to do yet in Ubuntu). So I gave it a try and it downloaded an album successfully. As an added bonus, the music was downloaded to my Music folder and wasn't downloaded to a hidden folder anywhere. So now I have access to the Amazon Store (cheaper) and the files are not hidden (much easier to make a cd or move to another device for backup).
As of now, I'm exclusively using Banshee because of the reasons I've given above and I can see no sense in using the Ubuntu One Store as it stands. Will Banshee actually be the default music player in 11.04? If so, will it retain the ability to go to the Amazon MP3 Store? If so, will that then be the default for downloading music? If so, what will become of the current default and any music that's already been downloaded from there?
what i want to be able to do is add a song or video to a current playlist in VLC. i know that sounds simple, but i wanna do it from my music folder, so right click on the file then "add the playlist" like in windows (i shall headbutt a wall for saying i want something like windows).dont know where to start on this at all, not sure what to google or anything.i was using rhythmbox but it skips when streaming across the network so thats out unless i fix that issue.

In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
