Ubuntu :: 9.10 - Printer Administration Not In Menu?

Apr 18, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and I can't seem to find the printer administration tool, it's not located in System->Administration->Printer or anywhere else on the menu. I've checked the menu editor and it's not shown there either.

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Add Item To System > Administration Menu

Jun 20, 2010

I just upgraded my Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04. Part of the Ubuntu 9.10 installation was GParted (version 0.4.5) and I saw, after upgrading to Ubutnu 10.04, there was a more recent version available: 0.5.1.

After installing that version, GParted was still part of the System > Administration menu (just as it was before).

But then I saw the version 0.6.0 of GParted was recently released and there was also a .deb distro available.

After downloading and installing the 0.6.0 version of GParted, the item GParted disappeared from the System > Administration menu and appeared in another menu (Applications > System Tools).

My question: how can I get GParted back as part of the Systems > Administrations menu?

Ubuntu :: System->Administration->Printing , Menu Missing?

Sep 15, 2010

Well like the title Implies, In my Administration menu in Gnome I don't have a "Printing" option. So I can't search for/install printers right now.I'm running 10.04 Server. I installed the gnome-desktop-environment package to get a GUI up and running for manipulating the filesystem, But not all the menu's I was expecting appeared. Is this because I used the gnome-desktop-environment instead of the ubuntu-desktop-environment package? ecause I have two PC's setup next to each other. One using the ubuntu-desktop-environment, and one using the gnome-desktop-environment package and the two desktops are clearly different.All I want to know is how to add the Printers menu to my PC running the gnome-desktop-environment package. I already looked at gconf-editor and the printing menu isn't hidden or anything, it's just not there. And me being a new user to Linux, I don't know how else to get to those printer abilities without the GUI

Ubuntu :: Duplicate Entries In System -> Administration Menu

Nov 22, 2010

I just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10. I originally had installed the nvidia drivers using the bash script from nvidia's website. This time around I used the ones from synaptic. However now when I go and look in System -> Administration there are 2 entries for "NVIDIA X Server Settings". The first one has the NVIDIA logo, the other one has a grey question mark. Does anyone know why there are 2 entries and how I can remove one of them?

Debian :: System Administration Menu - Just Get Login Screen

Jul 11, 2011

I've just started using Debian having previously used Ubuntu. With Ubuntu, under the System->Administration menu I get lots of options (e.g. Network Tools, Printing, Services...) to select from, but with Debian I just get Login Screen. Do I just get the one option because this is the only thing installed, or do I need to do something to enable other admin options?

CentOS 5 :: System/administration Menu Has 2x 'hardware' Entries

Mar 29, 2009

simple installs of CentOS5.2 i386 on 2x Dell C640's and x86-64 on a Dell dimension 9150 resulted in the System/Administration menu offering two entries each with the name 'hardware' and the icon showing a little chip hovering over a PC. I did "add this launcher to panel" on both as an easy way of checking their properties:

The higher entry issues the command 'hwbrowser'
The lower entry issues the command 'hal-device-manager'

Both have the comment "view information on the hardware on this computer". I feel the hal-device-manager entry has the wrong name, comment, and icon. I think /etc/xdg/menus/system-settings.menu is relevant.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Locate Printer Drivers In Network Printer Setup?

Oct 19, 2010

I am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.

I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?

Ubuntu Networking :: HP All In One C3180 Printer - Only Gets Recognized As A Printer But There Is No Way To Get It To Scan

Nov 21, 2010

I have managed to install ubuntu server and set it quite nicely to share my files and printers over my network. I have two printers, a Lexmark e232 and a hp C3180 multifunctional printer (i.e. printer+scaner+a copy function). I have no problem installing the Lexmark printer on my windows 7 computers on the network, however, the All in One printer only gets recognized as a printer but there is no way to get it to scan. I have been reading on the web about all in one printers but I don't quite understand what the issues are.

Is there a way for me to get the full functionality of this printer over the network? I think this wouldn't be a problem if there was some sort of software designed by hp that would allow me to add printers that are not directly connected to the computer (via usb) but are shared from another pc on the network.

Ubuntu Installation :: Setup USB Printer On Lucid Without Printer Connection?

Aug 3, 2011

I'm setting up a netbook for somebody (in another country!) and one of the last hurdles is the printer setup. I only have the netbook and not the printer with me. I know that the printer is a HP PSC 1215 All-In-One Printer but there seems to be a Catch-22 that I need to have the printer connected in order to be able to set this up using the GUI tools. How do I work around this? As a minimum I just want to enable printing, although scanning would be a bonus.
