I recently screw up mysql server privileges and now im having problem accessing tables/databases. so i wanna uninstall mysql server completely and reinstall it. i installed it previously through yum install mysql mysql-server. how should i do it?

Question is: how can I start from scratch i.e. completely delete Ubuntu is the first step. however, I do not know how to.
Additional problem is that it asks for GRUB and I have to insert the Windows (?) disk and it starts working again. Why does Ubuntu need XP disk is beyond me.

Hello people. So, some days ago, I Installed Wine in my machine, and it was working pretty good. But I decided to add WineTricks. Since then, I can not install any program using wine, nor open the installed ones (gives me errors). So, does anybody knows about a way to completelly uninstall Wine? I have tries "yum remove Wine" and "yum remove wine*", but it doesn't do anything. I am using Fedora 13.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope). I recently installed four themes, Mac4Lin, Tigris, Raptor Slickness remix and SlicknesS. I dragged them into the Appearance Preferences window to install them (in the Themes tab). I didn't like the themes and uninstalled them. But, while I was customising the original theme (Human), I saw that window controls and borders of the theme were not uninstalled (1st attachment). Also, if I want to reinstall the themes, I get an error (2nd attachment). I have checked if any folders named after these themes were there in "/usr/share/themes", but didn't find any. How am I to uninstall these themes completely?

1. Could this be why Update Manager is insisting that I install updates for software that I have removed and do not use?
2. There is one application I would like to re-install because it asked me technical questions before I installed it. I think I gave the wrong answer and when I re-installed it, it didn't ask the question again. It seems likely that there is a file somewhere that Ubuntu Software Centre didn't remove, and I could do with deleting but is owned by Root. How do I do this?

I use slackware 13.1-current on desktop with 4gb ram, nvidia geforce 210, and AMD cpu.
I have problem with my X starting using 40-50 MB of RAM and after some hours suddenly rises up to 400-500 MB. I have tried KDE ( with and without desktop effects ), LXDE, 3 different nvidia drivers ( the one made from the slackbuilds ) but no luck.
I decided at last to use the default slackware's driver. I uninstalled the nvidia driver and do startx, but it says code...
I have no idea about GPU and drivers, it was a mistake to install a driver for my nvidia just to have desktop effects. I just want to bring the things back as at the beginning of the systems installation and the default drivers.
Do you have any idea how to do it?
I have a database with the following table (see below). What I need to do is to empty the itype column completely, so that if I do a Select itype from items; it will return empty set. I have tried dropping and recreating the itype column, but it just adds the data I want to insert to the end, and even when I recreate it, it is not empty.. I need to overwrite it, or better, start with an empty column.

I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

I just install Ubuntu on a new computer I got, and set up LAMP. I started poking around in MySQL (more than I should have) and managed to break it. I've been trying to fix it, but I can't. I've done apt-get --purge mysql-client, but when I reinstall it it's the same thing. How can I reinstall MySQL (and PHPmyadmin) from a completely clean slate? (There's no important data on there)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI Installed the maintained package, Day one everything worked fine, I set a dummy database and work on it from VM windows. Day two weird errors, I searched around couldn't find the problem, the error was related to The root user losing privileges. I don't remember the exact error. So I decided to Completely remove the DB with apt-get remove mysql-Server-5.1. It gets stuck during the uninstall, I left the machine for a day and a half to uninstall mysql. I realized it was no use, I tried to Restart and try again, but I am getting the same thing.

I can't progress I am at the brink now, my only option right now is format, but I don't wanna do that. This setup is almost 5 years old and I have gone with many ups and downs with it. I have a python & sqlite2 application called "gourmet recipe manager" running under 10.04. If I try to install MySQL Workbench, Gourmet is uninstalled without so much as a 'by your leave'. When I reinstall Gourmet, MySQL Workbench is similarly abruptly uninstalled. Why?

I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-

Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.

I was having issues with MySQL Server and uninstalled it. I still have my databases at /lib/var/mysql.
My question: if I install MySQL Server (same version, 5.1) again, will it delete my databases, or will they still work?
How can I really, really remove everything related to mysql / mysql-server. I read and tried all kinds of things, but on every reinstall there is still old mysql stuff there, for example an existing password. Even resetting the password does not help.

I installed mediawiki the other day and went with the default innodb option. However a week later something went wrong. And since I have scripts that nightly backup /var/ I just copied the backup of /var/lib/mysql/wikidb/ (as I've done with MyISAM). Then when I connect the wikidb database. I can see the tables (via "show tables"), but when I do any query with them (check table X, select * from X) I get:

Table 'wikidb.X' doesn't exist I've since read that can can't just copy the database directory like MyISAM, and there appears to be no way that I can find to restore or fix Innodb, without a dump of the data. And I never got a chance to do a mysqldump of the data. So has anybody got any idea how I can at least view the "page" table from the files I've backed up in /var/lib/mysql/wikidb/ ?
