Debian Installation :: Cannot Connect To Internet / Can't Install Packages

Jan 1, 2016

During the installation of Debian ( debian-8.2.0-amd64-CD-1.iso ) I couldn't connect to any mirror probably because the internet wasn't configured.

Thus, after the basic installation I wasn't able to install any packages ( trying to install sudo as root prompted me to insert the media disc - the USB drive I used wasn't detected going in an infinite loop ). Judging by the fact that I don't have a window manager installed.

Debian Installation :: Can't Download Any Additional Packages - Update The Version - Unable To Connect To The Internet

Jul 14, 2011

I'm trying to do a net install with the latest release of debian - but my ethernet card is not recognized/the drivers are not available because I have a card that requires a linux kernel version of 2.6.35. This is obviously a problem because I can't download any additional packages, and I can't update the version because I'm not able to connect to the internet. I have installed it, but it's only text (which I assume is because I could not install the graphical interface, correct me if I'm blaringly wrong here). So what can I do to install debian on my laptop and be able to use my Intel Centrino Advanced-N 620 network card?

Ubuntu Installation :: Install Packages With No Internet / Is It Possible?

Mar 27, 2010

I have a general question: can I install packages in my Ubuntu, just using the live-CD but no network connection?

I broke my Ubuntu(9.10) and now can not log in, so I want to reinstall gnome, unfortunately I could not connect to internet, so I wonder if there is a way to use the live-CD as a source for the new software.

I would be really happy if I don't have to preinstall the whole system.

General :: Install Packages From A CD Instead Of RPM Via The Internet?

Jan 30, 2010

I do understand that to install software on linux distros that the main way is to have internet connectivity and to download them via RPM or to manually do this in terminal. Can you install software by downloading it from another PC via CD and install it in your Linux PC from the CD? Reason I ask is that I do not have a WLAN setup on my Linux PC yet and would like to install some programs or drivers while I am waiting to get a WLAN adapter that is compatible with Linux. Can you convert drivers or programs to an ISO image that can be installed on Linux? Another reason is that I have read that Wine can be used in the absence of MS Windows to run certain or a few programs in Linux as well as assist Linux to recognize drivers of hardware that is utilized for MS Windows.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet On New Install Of 9.10 (64bit)

Aug 2, 2010

I've just installed ubuntu 9.10 (64bit) on a new Dell Precision M4500 (actually I've made it dual boot with Win7).

I'm unable to connect to the internet. For now, I'd like to get the ethernet card working.

Connection is fine under Windows 7, so I think it is not a hardware problem.

To start with in ubuntu, I *was* able to connect to the internet via the NIC. Subsequently (not sure why), the ability to connect became intermittent: at startup, I would either be able to connect or not. If able, I remain able until reboot; if not, I remain unable until reboot. Now, I am not able to connect at all. All this makes me suspect that the NIC driver in ubuntu is OK.

On the suggestion of a local expert, I manually edited /etc/resolv.conf(originally blank) to contain the lines: search tamu.edu nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (using the IP the expert gave).

less /etc/network/interfaces shows: auto lo iface lo inet loopback

The output of "ifconfig" is shown below.

ifconfig shows:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:26:b9:e3:03:81
inet6 addr: fe80::226:b9ff:fee3:381/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

Ubuntu :: Unable To Install My Speedtouch 330 Modem - And Connect To The Internet

May 25, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 this morning and everything is working fine apart from one thing. I am unable to install my Speedtouch 330 modem on it and connect to the internet, I looked on the help pages and found this:

"Visit Ubuntu Packages Search and search for each of the following packages. Download them to a folder that is also visible from Ubuntu (or to a USB stick).

As I cannot access the internet I had to go back to windows, download them onto a memory stick, go back on to Ubuntu and install them. The first 12 worked fine and are now installed but number 13 and 14 wont allow me to update because "the dependency is un-satisfiable" does anyone know what this means and how I can fix it? I was also unable to get the USB ADSL Modem Manager too install either because of another error.

OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Connect To Internet After Installing 11.4

Aug 13, 2011

Code:

linux-aghn:/home/alex # cable-start
Using interface ppp0

PAP authentication succeeded

At this stage in another Linux distribution I am connected. In OpenSuse, when I start Firefox, it cannot connect. The problem is not in the browser, Software Management program also reports that connection is not available. ping 212.199.17.154 is successful. I tried to disable Firewall - doesn't help.

Fedora Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet After F13 Install / Resolve It?

Nov 4, 2010

I've replaced Ubuntu 10.10 with F13 and can't connect to the Internet.

I'm using a WiFi connection to my router. I receive an IP address via DHCP. I can connect to the router's web configuration interface, 192.168.2.1. Same with my NAS web configuration interface.

I've also tried with Live CD (F13 and F14beta). Same thing: receive IP, connect to router's web interface, can't connect to Google.

As a check, I tried Ubuntu Live CD and I can connect to the Internet.

I've also tried F13 Live CD on my laptop. Can't connect to the Internet.

OpenSUSE Install :: Broke Gnome In 11.2 - Connect To The Internet Via Networkmanager And Couldn't Get Wifi Or Wired To Work

Apr 27, 2010

I was having a problem with cairo dock, asked on the board how to resolve was told to reinstall the visual driver for my monitor since I have an ati vid card since with the updated kernal u have to reinstall those drivers(didn't know that, I'm new to opensuse). I thought I did that before so I completely uninstalled it so I could then do a fresh reinstall but I wasn't paying attention and my laptop was unplugged for a while. I stepped away while the install was going on and my laptop died.

I tried plugging it in but had to restart my laptop when I did I got the command line rows and when I tried to start GDM it wouldn't start, I did so as SU. Attempted to connect to the internet via networkmanager and couldn't get wifi or wired to work. Anyway I can access my desktop visually just so I can start yast and install the driver or will I have to reinstall 11.2 or use the cd to repair? If so how do I use the cd to repair?

Ubuntu Networking :: Connect To The Internet As Per Normal And Use Any Internet Application?

Feb 1, 2010

On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So

Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.
