Debian :: Compile Ffmpeg By Hand Want X264?

Mar 1, 2011

As I understand (and remember) debian does not package x264 with its ffmpeg. [I say remember because I have a debian-multimedia line in my sources.list that I believe I added when I wanted a x264 enabled ffmpeg]

Is this status still the same? Do we still need to compile ffmpeg by hand if we want x264?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Compile Errors From OpenCV With Ffmpeg + X264

May 29, 2011

I am trying to compile OpenCV 2.0 with ffmpeg (with x264) support on my Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit machine. (Since I want to use the binaries provided by other developers, I have to use opencv 2.0 version)

I followed the guide from: [URL] to compile x264 and ffmpeg manually, and succeeded.

Then I followed the guide in the INSTALL file provided by the OpenCV 2.0 package. I use CMake to configure and generate them, and use "make" command to try compiling. However, I got the following error report, which haunted me for almost half a week.

Code:

Software :: FFMPEG Script Fails After Squeeze Upgrade

Apr 4, 2011

Seems that my custom ffmpeg transcoding script has started failing ever since I upgraded to Squeeze. I ended up just installing handbrake-cli and it works now, but I'm curious why ffmpeg was failing. Here's the ffmpeg line:

Code:
ffmpeg -i "${inputfile}" -acodec libfaac -ab 128k -vcodec libx264 -vpre normal -crf 22 -threads 0 -title "${title}" -f mp4 "${outputfile}"

Slackware :: Ffmpeg Slackbuild Fails In Current Multilib

I was trying to use alien bob's slackbuild mentioned in another thread [url] and it failed everytime, so I tried to do it individually, building dependencies with sbopkg which worked except for Schroedinger and then ffmpeg still fails. I don't have access to the logs or fail messages at this moment, but I'm wondering if it is failing due to the newest gcc-multilib version? I'm also running kernel 2.6.33-rc3 with multilib-current.

Ubuntu :: Gcc Fails To Compile Vfdecrypt - %lu?

Feb 3, 2010

I've used linux for a quite a while and have compiled a small number of applications from source for one reason or another, however this on has me stumped. The program is vfdecrypt which if you are unaware is used to decrypt (among other things) .dmg files such as those found on apple hardware. Here are the relevant definitions:

Code:
typedef struct {
unsigned char sig[8];
uint32_t version;
uint32_t blocksize;

[Code]...

Surrounding lines use %llu for 64 bit numbers, so I'm assuming %lu is correct for 32bit, at least for the gcc they compiled with. Removing the line, since it is only user output, causes the program to hang on load and not show any output at all. I also tried compiling with -fno-builtin-fprintf thinking maybe my gcc was radically different than theirs and was doing something funky, and it did compile w/o errors, however it went back to not showing any output.

I have fetched the source from muliple sites in order to check the consistancy of this line and every version has it exactly as shown, so I'm thinking that the gcc ubuntu 9.04 ships with might not be a similar enough fork to the one used by the dev of this code.

Debian :: Can't Compile A Driver From Source (make Cmd Fails)

Nov 14, 2010

I'm trying to compile the D-Link netcard driver from the official source, and when I first ran "make," I got an error that "make" couldn't be found. So I installed "apt-get install make," then make told me that it needed gcc, I installed "apt-get install gcc." Now make says: make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/build: No such file or directory.  Stop. make: *** [LINUX] Error 2 and exits.

I suspect that I need to install some package group which will handle the make and make install (rather than manually trying to fix one hole after another)

Debian :: Run Ffmpeg As Background Job

Mar 26, 2016

I'm currently running ffmpeg from a windows machine and realized it's rather redundant as I could be running it from the Debian (headless server) machine instead. What I'm trying to achieve is to get ffmpeg running as a background job...

Effectively, as far as I've gathered, this should be enough:

Code: Select allffmpeg -re -hide_banner -i "LIVE_INPUT_1" -f "LIVE_OUTPUT_1" &

But it's not working - when I run the command from terminal to check it, it works fine... but when I try to run it as a background job it creates the job but no output is generated. According to posts around the web, other people have been successful at running background jobs like this for transcoding static files.Should it be done differently or is this an issue with ffmpeg itself?
