Software :: Vim Plugin - Edit A File As A Normal User - Commands Won't Work
May 4, 2011
I was looking at some Vim plugins, and I installed one called Abolish. The page from where I got it [URL] only says:
install details
Extract in ~/.vim or ~vimfiles
So I extracted it in ~/.vim. Now, the issue is that, if I edit a file as root, I am able to use the commands; however, when I edit a file as a normal user, these commands won't work. So... could this be a permissions issue? Or should I copy the plugin in some other directory, maybe?
I have a question that i want to make a normal user to execute the commands which the root user is able to execute, say if i have a user named siru and when i logged in using siru i cannot run commands like tracert,nmap@loccalhost and all but i can run when i have logged into root account so my question is how to make siru to run the command tracert,nmap@localhost.I have even edited the .bash_profile of siru's home directory from
# .bash_profile # Get the aliases and functions if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
I have installed Oracle Database server in Red Hat Linux for the first time. I edited the .bash_profile first time & defined some parameters like "export ORACLE_SID =orcl".I quit the editing. Then When I entered ". .bash_profile" it got error " not a valid identifier" it shows like "bash: export: '=orcl' : not a valid identifier for all the lines I edited it shows same error beacause I think I put a space in between "ORACLE_SID" & "=orcl".
So when I tried to edit that using "vi .bash_profile" being a normal user. It doesn't allow me editing.when I try to delete that space (because I think I have got error) using Backspace key on my computer,,it just moves the cursor to left in stead of deleting that space.
recently I did some changes to my bashrc file the changes are as follows export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jre<version>/bin/ export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jre<version>/bin
If sound on F12 works as root user but not as a normal user, try this simple fix! I've been struggling to get sound working as a normal (non-root) user since F10. Until now I've had to run X as root user to get any sound out of my machine.
Sound actually works OK now for me as a normal user. Here's how I fixed the problem.
First I uninstalled pulseaudio with:# yum remove pulseaudio Then reboot back to the hardware. You might want to keep pulseaudio, but I have no need for it. PA wasn't running on my system anyway.
Running X as root user, I did the following: As a test I opened a root shell and typed the following:
[root]# alsamixer c0 That started the alsamixer OK, and all the controls were accessible.
My system is Debian Jessie,KDM,the icedove version is 38.6.0.
I used the Theme Font &Size Changer 44.2 add-on to configure the mail list font size.
I have 2 users, the add-on only worked well on one user. For another user,it could installed, but didn't show on the main view and could not set font size either.
when loggin as a normal user and search for a file passwd under /etc. i get few errors with permission denied.how to ignore this permission denied errors.
I want to simply mount an ext4 file-system onto a normal mount point in Ubuntu (/media/whereever), as read-writable for the current logged-in user, i.e. me.
I don't want to add anything into /etc/fstab, I just want to do it now, manually. I need super-user privileges to mount a device, but then only root can read-write that mount. I've tried various of the mount options, added it into fstab, but with no luck.
So I need to become the root user in order to edit a grub file in a seperate partition, so I can get back into this partition. How can I become and stay as root user in the desktop environment? (I know you shouldn't do this, but I need it.)
I have made a simple bash script through which i can add, del, edit user from certain file using different CASE variables. like case 1. adduser 2. del user 3. edit user
Now i want to add a exit CASE like 1. adduser 2. del user 3. edit user 4. exit
Now i want to make a script such a way that, if user input is 4 then only script quit. I used with exit function also but it didn't work. if user press ENTER or other keys then also it quit the program.

I recently upgraded from fc8. I am running two nvidia NVS 285 cards with four monitors and using nvidia driver 190.53-pkg1. I have one card up and running and can edit the config file and make to other two work I just can't get all four to work together.
OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTSEmulator: Wine 1.2Program: Propellerhead's Reason 5.0After some toil, I successfully installed Reason on linux. Hurrah. However, the default audio drive failed, and now it doesn't have an audio card selected. .. but this isn't my problem.I would love to go into Options to try and tinker with the settings, but I can't click on it. In fact, I can't click on anything in the window's toolbar (ie File, Edit, Options, Help, etc)The rest seems to work just fine.
is there a way to edit which commands require a sudo? or some programs, like the CPU frequency monitor on panel, requires a password to change. where would i start if i want to change this?
I have been using docky lately (its a great app!) and I am just wondering if there is some way I can make it show all windows in an expose-like format if multiple windows are open, just like the Unity launcher. Is there any way I can achieve this without switching to Unity?
I have a few small still images of around 300 bytes each that I created under Windows many years ago, I'd like to:
1) change the colour of some pixels on each and 2) make them the exact same size but I do not want to learn Gimp to do this since I have no other use for it.
Could someone show me the sequences of commands in Gimp GUI that will do the job?
We All know Gedit Autocomplete plugin (nagaozen / gedit-plugin-autocomplete 0.10.1). It has a cool feature where it reads words from a "Library". How to Edit that library?
I have just installed the newest version of ubuntu (10.10 the maverick meerkat) and im struggling installing any programs, wine and vlc arnt appearing on synaptic package manager and anything i try to do in either the command promt or ubuntu software centre doesnt work either. Is there any way to use 'fdisk -l' as a normal user? I see in F12, /sbin has been added to PATH by default for a normal user, but when trying to use it, nothing shows up.
See below for demonstration purposes:
Code:
Password:
I don't want to use 'su -' or 'su -c' and login every time.
Recently I noticed, that manpages are not available anymore for a normal user:
Code: $ man grep No manual entry for grep See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available. With root privileges everything works fine

I just want to be able to access and modify the files on my usb drive as a normal user. The mount command works perfectly as root but then the files that I end up copying to my home folder can only be modified as root. I only use a window manager and use just bash for file management. I just want to be able to it through the command line.
