Slackware :: Slack Build Binary Dependencies In Database
Jul 17, 2011sbbdep is a program that reads the elf header of dynamic linked files found in the given argument. argument can be
a package file from /var/adm/packages/...
a DESTDIR destination path of make install
a single given binaries/dynamic libraries
as result it prints out, or into a file, the package names the given argument require. sbbdep scans installed packages, extract some information about dynamic linked binaries and libraries and dumps these infos into a sqlite database usually sbbdep works fast. time consuming is only the first where the cache becomes created this takes about ~? (1 - 2) minutes, of cause, duration depends on the number of cpus and speed of disk io on other runs than the first sbbdep syncs the cache, this is usually a fast operation (~1sec), even if some packages where undated/remoed/installed using the cache with a sqlite client some custom queries can be done like what is required by pkg or file, what are the dependencies of file xy,....
current state of sbbdep is 0.0.1, the first public release. of cause I wanted to make some things better, prettier, more documented and o on but before going on holiday, than waiting until Christmas cause work stresses and than an other year comes I place the code now to a public repo. for me it looks stable enough to release it without stress people that will test/use sbbdep to much with problems. but there may be some bugs I did not noticed, or better say there will be some bugs like it is always the case in software. but since sbbdep does not anything critical an can/shall be run as normal user it will not do anything bad.......

Feb 20, 2011I'm running xbmc on slackware64-13.1 and it's running great. However a python addon script is giving me trouble. The script contains some utf-8 characters, and by default I get an error because coding isn't declared in the script. I've added

I've tried messing around with turning on unicode console and such but I'm a bit in the dark on this. Is there a way I can get slack to handle those scripts without having to edit them every time I update?

My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}
Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels
Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

Apr 18, 2011I've install Slackware 13.1 and i cannot shutdown my PC. The shut down process stop while trying to run PCMCIA module.
This is the first time that happens.
From Hardware point of view , i didn't do anything at all (if that helps).

Jul 2, 2011I installed a slack 13.7 on an old laptop. KDE was set as default desktop. then I login and run startx and I saw KDE first screen display. after that I saw blank screen with a mouse on it. Then it stayed there and it seems try read some in my harddisk since the persistent harddisk light.

May 2, 2011When I try to put slackware to sleep or have it hibernate the system simply sits with a black screen. Normally it would do this for a short period of time immediately before the actual sleep state (screen powered off, croissant light on) is entered, but currently it does it indefinitely. My sleep USED to work just fine, it broke after some unclean shutdown or another, basically I just want to know what I can try resetting to try to get it back to normal.
Slackware64 13.1, running on thinkpad X61.
EDIT: Of course the second I make the post I think of trying to sleep/hibernate from the command line instead of through X/GDM (Gnome SlackBuild). That works.

By default the plug boots first from the external usb, so I would only need to set up / on the first partition. any way i can transfer files back and forth to this would be great since it does not work in vista either. and I am pretty sure 99.9% that I have all the libmtp, libnjb, and whatever other libs are needed installed but in gnomad it says no devices found on USB hub. I hope this is enough info and someone out there has the trick or maybe I am missing something obvious.

Basically, I want my laptop or any other machines to boot from my network. I followed the instructions from AlienBob to do so. I setup my laptop to boot from the NIC, it automatically gets an IP from the DHCP server (pfSense);
I setup my gateway/DHCP server (pfSense) as is: -The IP address from the network boot server: 192.168.0.101 (the server where my slackware mirror and all tftp boot files are) -The filename used for network booting: /mnt/it-maintenance/tftpboot/slackware-13.1/pxelinux.0 (the absolute address of pxelinux.0 in my server)

Dec 24, 2009I am having problems getting Seamonkey 2 and 2.0.0.1 to run on Slackware 12.2. I have tried the packages for 12.2 in patches/packages/ and the package from the seamonkey website, both with identical results. Seamonkey appears to start, and does appear in the process list, however no windows appear and it uses little memory and no CPU cycles. No messages appear in the console if I start it from there. I have to kill the processes (seamonkey , run-mozilla and seamonkey-bin). I have tried removing my Seamonkey profile, with the same results.

Jun 9, 2010I have myself a perfectly working slackware 13.1 64 on my pc (well, tbh I gotta solve some ati and kde compose issues),BUTI can get no joy when trying to make it work in friend's pc.The slackware 13.1 32 install runs ok. I can even log in and run a init 4 session on kde.But with no apparent reason hard crashes (completely frozen system) hit the system aleatory (never last more than 5 minutes)

If an install was made onto a disk already using other distros and Grub and wanting to keep Grub, do I still need to install Lilo?I believe that one could use the 'chainloader' entry in Grub to boot the Slackware. And Lilo can be installed to its own / root partition.I suppose really what I'm asking is Slackware totally dependent on Lilo?
