Slackware :: Connecting To Openvpn Server - Connects But Fails

Jul 18, 2010

I've configured an openvpn server on a wrt54g using dd-wrt firmware. I can connect from the command line...at least it appears to connect, but I am unable to access any resources. Trying to use networkmanager's openvpn client fails every time. Everything I find googling relates to Ubuntu, so just for kicks I booted into my Ubuntu partition for the first time in months....and the wireless lan disappeared when I restarted network manager, which is why I don't use Ubuntu in the first place, so much for the "easier distros". I'm assuming there are people successfully connecting to openvpn servers from Slack. I could definitely use a pointer.

Networking :: OpenVPN Connects But There Is No Traffic?

Dec 10, 2010

I have installed OpenVPN to use it as an internet gateway butcan't get it to work.OpenVPN installed without any problem. The client can also connect and ping the server but there is no internet traffic.I think it is because of a wrong gateway address which the client gets but I'm not sure. server IP address is 10.8.0.1 and the client can ping this IP but it's default gateway is always 10.8.0.5 which is not accessible from the client. This is my server.conf:

Ubuntu Security :: OpenVPN Connects To VPN But No Internet (10.10 64-bit)

Jan 5, 2011

I use vpntunnel.se and followed their tutorial for OpenVPN and it connects and assigns an IP. However, once the sequence is initiated and I open my browser I cannot connect to a webpage and get a "cannot resolve" error. I e-mailed their support and they suggested I change the DNS of my network settings. I did that but the same problem. Once I close OpenVPN my internet works again. It works in windows, so I know it is not my router...I use a wireless connection with my router. I don't know if this has something to do with anything...

Networking :: OpenVPN Connects But No Replies To Pings

Jan 7, 2011

I have an asus router running tomato firmware. Through the webGUI I have set up an openVPN server as per the tomato guides. I am using the network manager plug-in in ubuntu 10.04 to connect as a client to the tomato openVPN. All of my certificates seem to be set up and working correctly.

I am able to successfully connect to the openVPN server using the ubuntu client but after that I get nothing. On the client side I am unable to ping the router, any ip addresses inside my private network, the virtual network ip, and web browsing (client) no longer works.

Also, when connected I am unable to ping the client from the private network.

Networking :: Home Network - Connects To The Internet To Also Be Able To Connect To The Slackware Server

Aug 9, 2010

I have one pc on which I have installed slackware and samba (fixed IP, mask 255.255.255.0) I have another PC (also XP) which also has fixed IP running XP, and I can connect that to the slackware server easily My third PC connects to the internet and gets its IP address from the Cisco router(?) that provides the IP and mask on boot up.

I tried changing the IP and Mask on the slackware server to match the internet PC (which uses a mask 255.255.254.0) but the PC mask and IP changed on the internet PC I want the PC that connects to the internet to also be able to connect to the slackware server, but I see no need for the slackware server to also connect to the internet - I will mainly use it as a file server When I worked for another company I think the IT department talked about having 2 network cards in the PC that connects to the internet

Ubuntu Networking :: RTL8191SE Wireless Connects But Fails?

May 24, 2010

I have a Compaq Presario CQ42-195TX laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) installed on it and fully updated. It has a Realtek RTL8191SE wireless chipset which I am having trouble with - its wired connection is working perfectly. After starting up, I am able to see and connect to wireless networks. Once connected, the wireless functions correctly for a very brief period (under 10 seconds) in which I am able to access the Internet and so forth. The connection then stops working - although it doesn't get disconnected. When I say it "stops working", I mean I can no longer access the Internet and trying to ping the router gives me a "Destination Host Unreachable" error. If I disconnect from the network I cannot reconnect, nor can I connect to any other network.- though I can still see the list of available networks.

I thought that maybe this was a 64-bit issue, but I tried the Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit live CD and experienced the same problem. Please note that while this thread is about the RTL8191SE chipset, the RTL819xSE chipsets all use the same driver.Below are the results of various commands while connected to the network but after the connection has stopped functioning correctly:lspci -nn | grep "Realtek"

Code:

Server :: OpenVPN Range Address / When Change Static IP To Dynamic IP In Config File OpenVPN Didn't Work?

Feb 13, 2010

I want to configure a VPN over the Internet.I installed the 'openvpn' package, generated the key file, transfered it by a secure way to the client, and setted up the configuration file.

So, in that configuration file I input the IP addresses of the tunneled interfaces. Both IPs are static in the tunnel.

Then, I've heard somewhere that I can assign a dynamic configuration IP for the client. I do this registering a range.

Well, when I tried to change static IP to dynamic IP (changing '192.168.0.2' to '192.168.0.0/24') in the configuration file, the OpenVPN didn't work.

Obviously I don't know what I'm doing, and I really, don't believe that simply changing the IP will make it work, but I tried.

I hope I explained my problem as well.

My configuration file:

# OpenVPN Server Configuration File
dev tun 0
ifconfig 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2
cd /etc/openvpn
secret key_file

In client I execute the 'openvpn' without the '--daemon' parameter. Then I want that my client uses a IP in a range (192.168.0.0/24, for example), instead of a static IP (192.168.0.2).I also thought to use a DHCP server, but I'm not sure that will work.

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - OpenVPN Client Fails (Error Status 7)

Jan 9, 2010

I have openvpn server configured with bridged interface on my openwrt router. The client is running ubuntu 9.10 with config:

Client
dev tap
proto udp
remote x.x.x.x 1194
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
ca /home/blwegrzyn/openvpn/ca.crt
cert /home/blwegrzyn/openvpn/client1.crt
key /home/blwegrzyn/openvpn/client1.key
comp-lzo
verb 5
(x.x.x.x was hidden)

When the client connects the log says:
WRRRWRSat Jan 9 20:16:03 2010 us=332404 PUSH: Received control message: 'PUSH_REPLY,redirect-gateway,dhcp-option DNS 192.168.1.241,route-gateway 192.168.1.254,ping 10,ping-restart 120' .....
Sat Jan 9 20:16:03 2010 us=343906 ERROR: Linux route add command failed: external program exited with error status: 7

The server is trying to push default gateway 192.168.1.254 to the client and the client is on 192.168.2.0 network as you can see the route addition fails with SIOCADDRT: No such process. This is because the tap interface does not have any ip and the route addition is not possible. The tap interface is not getting the dhcp address through the tunnel, not sure why (this works on XP). To fix the problem I must manually add the ip to the tap interface, and the default gateway, but then i must add dhcp server to resolv.conf to make it work and once I disconnect the computer does not know the old valid dhcp anymore and cannot communicate. Why openvpn cannot get the ip automatically? Why it cannot grab the dhcp from the tunnel? Is it related to the wireless card being managed by the network manager? This works perfect on windows machine (xp sp3).

Ubuntu Networking :: OpenVPN Woes - TLS Handshake Fails To Complete Within 60 Seconds?

Oct 19, 2010

I have OpenVPN set up on my server at home to allow me into my home network when I'm away from home. When I set it up, I tested it using my friend's wifi so I know it works on a local geographic scale. Now I'm away from home, the TLS handshake fails to complete within 60 seconds. I assume it's timing out, as I can tracepath to the server on port 1194 successfully. From reading the OpenVPN documentation, I thought that adding "tls-timeout=120" to the client's config file would double the time allowed, but the handshake still fails with the same error message:

Code:
Tue Oct 19 10:45:17 2010 us=930956 TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity)
Tue Oct 19 10:45:17 2010 us=931012 TLS Error: TLS handshake failed

Why is the option not being read correctly from the file - does it need to be in the server's config file also?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Connecting To Xen Hypervisor Fails

Jun 14, 2009

I've just installed Fedora 11, and in the process of testing it, decided on trying out virtualization tools.

Services: libvirtd, xenner and xend are started and i'm still unable to connect to hypervisor with the message:

Unable to open a connection to the Xen hypervisor/daemon.

Verify that:

- A Xen host kernel was booted
- The Xen service has been started

Unable to open connection to hypervisor URI 'xen:///':
<class 'libvirt.libvirtError'> unable to connect to 'localhost:8000': Connection refused

xend.log is empty

Now, I've also tried installing Fedora 11 x86_64 as a guest OS with KVM/QEMU as a solution, and the installation process starts, but after some time, the console screen goes black and there is no DVD driver activity or HDD led activity. The CPU is at 2-5 % utilization. And there is nothing I can think of to 'resume' the installation or whatever.

Now, I've tried the same thing 3 times and the process always hangs during the installation with the same symptoms.

On Ubuntu, it says that it was able to connect to the wireless network, but when I try to go to any page on Firefox it just keeps trying to load perpetually and never connects to the site, eventually just showing the "Server not found" page.

Server :: Ubuntu Workstations Connects To Samba Pdc But Gets No Group Permissions?

Dec 30, 2010

The current situation:there is a samba PDC with ~50 XP workstations, all working fine for the last two years. The goal:Cycle older hardware back into production by installing ubuntu on them. These workstations must authenticate against the domain, and must automatically mount a public, a user, and a department share that contains folders with various group permissions. The added challenge:Since the office where this lan is located is closed for the next week or so, the ubuntu workstation I am testing with is connecting via a site-to-site VPN. This is soon to be mandated as a requirement anyway, so if not done now it will have to be done later anyway. I mention this since it *may* be something that could be interfering with the success of my mission, however, given what does work, I do not think this is my culprit.

What does work:Thanks to winbind, I can log into the ubuntu workstation via gdm with my domain credentials, and thanks to pam_mount my shares do mount correctly. I take this to mean my pam conf files are correct, along with nsswitch.conf.wbinfo -p, -a, -t, and -u work on the workstation. getent passwd returns DOMusers.listwbinfo -p, -t, -Y, -S, -G, -n, -s, etc, all work on the PDC. getent passwd returns a list from /etc/passwd and getent group returns a list from /etc/group.A remotely controlled windows workstation on the lan works as expected.

It appears that winbind is not able to parse the group permissions at all, not for the user, nor for the folders. The hope:is that someone can say that this problem of group permissions not being recognized has a typical cause (though several hours/days of google searching has revealed no such thing). However, I can provide a great deal of supporting information, as I have gone through documentation and testing extensively (though not extensively enough, apparently). For my own sanity, I put most things I tried into a text document so I could review it and look for errors in judgment, that doc ended up being some 1500 lines long, and doesn't include conf files. Rather than flooding this post, if someone is up for reviewing it, I can definitely make it and further supporting info available...

Server :: Run An Openvpn Server On A Openvz VPS - Packets Doesn't Reach The Client

Oct 23, 2010

I'm trying hard to run an openvpn server on a openvz VPS, the problem is packets sent from openvpn server process, doesnt reach the client, so connection is never stablished (I run tcpdump on server and wireshark on client to carefully investigate whats wrong), the first guess is that a kind of firewall is blocking traffic (I tried connecting to server through different ISP's but it's possible the national network provider applied some filtering but it cant be on IP,src port or dst port as I'd tried different configuration.

what about deep packet inspection technics, is it possible to block my traffic?) but at exactly the same time I can transmit UDP packets using netcat from server to the guest. there is no firewall enabled in between, I had tried, tcp and udp, tried both open vpn and openvpnAS and tried any thing one can imagine! the VPN is configured as a routed (TUN) type on debian

Slackware :: Connecting Slackware 13.37 To The Internet

Jun 17, 2011

I'm having some trouble getting my new copy of slackware connected to the internet. I'm new to slackware, so I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting. So far, I've run netconfig and tried to set up a DHCP and a Static-IP connection, both to no avail. I know my internet connection is working since I'm currently using the same box with a hard-drive that has crunchbang on it. I've read chapter 5 of the slackbook up to the section on PPP and have thus far gotten lost in my /etc/rc.d folder looking at lottsa neat files.

Using ifconfig -a gives me information about an eth0, an eth1, and a lo connection thing. From what I understand from the book, this means that slackware has registered my network card but does not have the right configuration necessary to connect.

I tried getting information about my connection from crunchbang, which was as simple as right-clicking a certain icon and copying down my interface, hardware address, driver, speed, security, ip address, broadcast address, subnet mask, default route, and primairy DNS. Since setting up DHCP didn't work after startup, I assumed I was using static I.P. I put in my IP address, mask, default route, and DNS, but it has not yet connected.

I have kde up and running as far as a window manager, and everything seems to work except connecting to the internet. I have a linksys router. I usually use wifi, but I even tried connecting through an ethernet cord and that didn't work either. I have searched many different threads, but either they didn't address my specific problem, or I couldn't understand what was going on. I tried to configure using "netconfig", but I didn't understand what many of the prompts wanted. I entered a name and a domain name, and selected DHCP, but this did nothing.
