Ubuntu :: How To Interface With RS232 Port

May 13, 2010

I am trying to interface a machine (lock in amplifier) with Ubuntu using a RS 232(25pin) to USB cable. I wrote a program in c to interact with the machine. I think the machine is detected (after connecting the machine a file is created in folder /dev with name ttyusb1. I heard that ubuntu has all the header files required to interface with the port. with the help of a person i wrote this program (please see the attachment below.) but i don't know whether the commands are right or wrong. the program is compiled. but when i run the program it is getting stuck. i have to stop the program using Ctrl+z. if anyone knows these commands (how to write to or read from the port) please help me with this program.

Fedora Networking :: Interface Refuses Port Forwarding Or NAT

Oct 29, 2010

I have a set up with a computer that has two network cards and is connected to two networks. Both networks connect to the internet via separate routers that have DHCP enabled. I can set one of the routers up to do port forwarding to the computer without any complications but if I want to do the same on the other router the port forwarding from it doesn't work and I can't reach the system.

I know for a fact that the services are accessible from both networks and both routers can forward ports to other computers in their network. The networks are 10.10.0.1/24 and 172.22.0.1/24. I've tried turning off iptables but that didn't change anything.

Is there any kind of setting that could prevent the interface on the computer to reject traffic using NAT or something?

If I disable the interface on the working network (ifdown eth1) then suddenly eth0 on the other networks starts accepting requests sent to it via the router that does the port forwarding. I do however want to emphasize that services work just fine as long as the requests originate from either of the networks they are on.

General :: Assign Port Numbers Against Interface (LAN Card)

Apr 22, 2010

I am using RHEL 5. In my Linux Box I have two Lan cards (eth0 and eth1). "eth0" is connected with network 192.168.10.0 and "eth1" is connected with network 192.168.11.0. Both Network are inter connected via routing. Now I want a situation where, I want to dedicatedly assign some port numbers against a lan card. Like eth0 will be assigned for ssh (22) and eth1 is assigned for telnet (23). So that, when a user connect to 22 port then he/she is connected to the server through eth0 , and when a user connect 23 port then he/she is connected to the server through eth1. Is it possible to do using iptables or other?

General :: SFTP Server Port Blocked On Uni Network / Need To Change Listening Port

Oct 21, 2010

VERY new to linux, erm but I have an issue that needs solving!I recently moved to university, where their network blocks sftp port 22, this means that I cannot connect to my FTP server which is running a version of linux. Now I've got this ftp server connected to a seedbox and it was created using the following walk through..Code:I have written this guide for a friend, but I though it would be useful for others as well.

There are several guides floating around, but I found that most always cock up in some way. This one is tried and tested to work on Debian Etch (on an OVH rps, but should apply to most servers). If there is a new stable release of rtorrent/libtorrent then I will update this guide to show you how to update it (without reinstalling the whole server).

At the bottom there are also instructions to install ftp access & some network monitoring software.Basically, I would really like someone to be able to construct the commands on how to change the listen port for sftp connection on linux or add another port to the list that Linux would use so that I could put in through putty.

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Boot Windows Even From The Graphical Interface

Nov 3, 2010

I am having a very strange problem with GRUB: it refuses to boot from certain partitions, and in a very strange way. This is what I've noticed so far:When using GRUB in the default OpenSUSE 11.3 graphical interface and trying to boot it, GRUB almost always gives me Error Message 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure. The GRUB manual says that "This error is returned by the filesystem code to denote an internal error caused by the sanity checks of the filesystem structure on disk not matching what it expects. This is usually caused by a corrupt filesystem or bugs in the code handling it in GRUB. " I've ran fsck on all the partitions and neither of them has any corruption. When I switch to the non-graphical GRUB window, the message changes to Error Message 18: "Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS".

The GRUB manual says that "This error is returned when a read is attempted at a linear block address beyond the end of the BIOS translated area. This generally happens if your disk is larger than the BIOS can handle (512MB for (E)IDE disks on older machines or larger than 8GB in general). " However, I haven't touched any BIOS settings when the problem started to appear, and the BIOS is brand new anyway so it doesn't have such limits. When I try to boot directly from the command line, it roots to the boot partition just fine, but refuses to load the kernel, giving me the error 16 again.

When I try to boot Windows from the non-graphical GRUB list, it gives me the error 18 again, but it always succeeds when I do all the booting directly from the command line. One time I was able to boot Linux from the command line by using rootnoverify instead of root, but never again since then. One time it didn't boot Windows even from the OpenSUSE graphical interface, error 18 again. Sometimes it boots even Linux just fine, but it happens quite rarely now. The problems started appearing just recently, and without any reason that I could think of. I also ran setup again in order to reinstall GRUB, and it worked for one boot, but not any more...

My partition list is like this:
(hd0,0) Windows 7 boot, NTFS, primary
(hd0,1) Windows 7, NTFS, primary
(hd0,2) Windows XP, NTFS, primary
(hd0,3) Extended
(hd0,4) /root, EXT3, logical
(hd0,5) /home, EXT3, logical
(hd0,6) swap, logical
(hd0,7) /boot, EXT2, logical

Ubuntu Servers :: SSH Server - Connect To Server Via Port 443 I Get A Connection Refused Error?

When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server. To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.

Server :: Redirect Local DNS Query To Remote DNS Server On Non Standard Port?

Feb 19, 2010

The issue is that my CentOS workstation is in a vlan from where the Intranet's DNS servers are unreachable. For browsing the web there is an ISA proxy server, which I presume resolves DNS for my firefox. However, wget, host, ping and aria2c fail to get any sort of DNS resolution since they're being run from command line.I have exported HTTP_PROXY value, which provides me internet access on console, but, only when I connect using IP address. It fails on name resolution.

My question is:May I redirect the DNS queries to my home PC which would be running a DNS server on a non standard port?I was thinking of putting nameserver 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf and then put iptables rule to redirect 127.0.0.1:53 UDP to a.public.ip.address:3535 UDP..I don't know if I am shooting blanks or what, I am not very much aware of this kind of setup. My main need is to provide DNS resolution to console apps.I want to utilize my company's idle bandwidth for bulk downloads, so, using proxy, SSH tunneling through my Home PC is out of question.

Server :: Setup Reverse Proxy With Proxy_mod To Port 443 On IIS Server

Aug 30, 2010

We currently have a SUSE Apache2 reverse proxy server setup to reverse proxy (proxy_mod) our GroupWise Web Access server. Our SUSE box is located at www.domain.com. Our GroupWise Web Access server is located internally and is called GWMail. We are in the process of migrating from Novell to Windows, so we will have an exchange server with OWA access running on a Windows Server 2008 IIS7 box. That one will be called EXMail internally. Right now when someone goes to www.domain.com/gw/webacc it goes to the GWMail internal server from the outside world. This was all set up by previous techs who used Linux more.

We would like to set up reverse proxy to be able to reverse proxy to the Exchange Server from the outside world. Unfortunately the snag we are running into is that Exchange needs to run on port 443, and forwarding to port 443 has been a little tricky. I've read elsewhere we need to implement a generic TCP proxy, such as IPtables. what we need to do to get our SUSU Apache2 server to be able to reverse proxy to our Exchange server on port 443. For the save of argument lets call our SUSE server ExtranetServer. Below is our default-configuration.conf file's configuration:

Ubuntu :: X Windows - How To Listen On TCP Port

Feb 6, 2011

It appears that X Windows under Ubuntu (or Gnome?) is started to listen to a Unix named socket, instead of a TCP port number, for client connections. That's what SSH is forwarding when it does X forwarding. I need to start X applications on a remote machine, and then close the SSH connection. So I need to make the connections directly. This is within a LAN on private IPs, so security is not an issue. I searched on help.ubuntu, but there appears to be no particular document that covers this. Anyone know where this is configured to enable it to listen on a TCP port like the usual 6000?

Server :: Get The XML RPC Interface On RTorrent?

Feb 19, 2010

I've been trying to get the XML RPC interface on rTorrent working for some time now, without success. I'm running Debian 5.0 'Lenny' (stable) i386 on a Intel Atom, and need to let an external application communicate with rTorrent via XML RPC.

I've hand compiled the XML RPC C (1.06) libraries and tried the default packaged version for Lenny, and tried almost all possible combinations of the libtorrent10/libtorrent11 libraries and the rtorrent 0.7.9 through to the latest 0.8.x release. As far as I can see the compilation of both the XML RPC libraries and libtorrent work flawlessly (using no special parameters for the 'configure' scripts). I've compiled rTorrent with the --with-xmlrpc-c syntax, which is also accepted, and it compiles flawlessly.

Code:
system:~# xmlrpc 127.0.0.1:5000 system.listMethods
Error: Curl failed to perform HTTP POST request. curl_easy_perform() says: Empty reply from server (-504)
However, rTorrent (running in a shell) reports

Ubuntu Installation :: Port Windows XP Raid-1 To New U10.04?

Aug 12, 2010

I have recently bought a new computer, and would like to take my existing RAID-1 from the old computer to the new computer, as the disks hold many digital photos. The old RAID-1 was in a DELL XPS 400 (and based on the intel 82801GR chip I guess), and the new computer has an intel ICH10R. I understand that both chips require a Windows driver if RAID-1 is needed.

The old disks still reside in the "dead" computer. How can I proceed? I hope the solution is that fakeRAID can be enabled, but I would like to ask the clever and experienced community before I do something that cannot be undone (and maybe lose all my digital photos!). Or maybe you have a better solution?

If you need more information to help me then please tell me to post information; I do not really know much about setting up RAID-1.
