I have a problem on server running RHEL 5.4. Oracle jobs are sometimes succesfull,somtimes not. Error message is: server unexpectedly cloesd network connection. Everything seems to be set correctly.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Postgresql 8.4.2-2. I'm trying to remote into my server securely. I figure I could do so with ssh. Apparently I figured correctly, as per, [URL] and [URL] I setup the ssh tunnel. ssh -L 5432:serverip:5432 Then I setup pgadmin3 to connect as follows:
host: localhost
port: 5432
user: postgres
maintenance db: postgres
And I receive the following error:
An error has occurred: Quote: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the server: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I can connect with Code: psql from the cli after connecting to the terminal via ssh. So I know that I'm using the correct password.
was trying to access the server through putty, it immediately closed connection.i tried this a couple of times and still the same problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem between a jail root (so a group of users can access through sftp to Apache directory (var/www) an not get out of this directory.
1. I have the group 'sftponly', I need to access / var / www for sftp (read only)
2. On the other hand I need that user www-data (Apache) is the owner or at least have write permissions in the same directory (/ var / www)
The problem comes when the two needs together, as from what I read, to do jailroot in a directory is necessary for the owner is root and any other user has write permissions on it.
If along the jailroot with write permissions then attempt to connect to the client via sftp throws me the following error: "Error: Server unexpectedly closed network connection"
Permissions system User/group/Others doensn't work to me, so I tried it with ACL, but I have the same problem when I grant write permissions to the apache user.
Does anyone know how can I do for the user www-data can have write permission in the Apache directory and be able to create a user or group of users who are "locked"in this directory to enter sftp?
am running centos5.3 on a virtual machine and was trying to do some basic hardening and part of it i had to modify the pam.d/system-auth file and from then i am getting a fatal error whenever i try to connect via ssh using putty i am not at all able to login the server with any of the accounts even root also.I am scared unknowingly did i lock the system???how to resolve this issue?

I've done some Google-fu on this, and the obvious culprits don't seem to be at work. Specifically, the svn server does not use a nonstandard port, and I'm not using Tortoise SVN or putty, just going directly from the command line. Additionally, I was able to use the server as recently as this morning and no coworkers are having problems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently turned an older PC into a linux box for the purpose of creating an online server with ftp and ssh capability and file sharing. I've installed Kubuntu 9.10 and I'm trying to ssh to the computer from outside the network.I've install the openssh-client and openssh-server and I've created a static ip address, which works fine. I cannot ssh to the machine from outside the isp using either the direct ip address or hostname. The machine is connected to the internet via a Linksys Wireless G router, and I've edited the configuration settings to keep port 22 open for connect in the port server utility.
I've checked the ssh_config and sshd_config settings and port 22 is the default connection port, which is supposed to be open. I've run ifconfig and everything looks fine. I can connect to the computer using a machine connected to the same router, but other computers cannot access it. I want it to be visible to everyone.
I can make a connection to the vpn server, the connection starts, but nothing happens! My IP address remains the same as previous! There is nothing added to my Knetworkmanager, I'm a beginner I should use a pcf file for my vpn connection. I use it properly, I'm sure because the connection starts and an icon is added to my panel and remains until I disconnect.

I am running webmin on ubuntu server 10.04lts I have dovecot installed.when I try to check for mail the server unexpectedly terminates the connection. window live mail gives this error, and when i use telnet to try to login and get email it terminates the connection right after i send the "PASS thisismypassword" command.

The /etc/cups/printers.conf file is properly set, the printers appear in localhost:631 and they are printing test pages. However, all command line print commands seem to be trying to print to sdst@other.domain I don't know why printers.conf is being ignored and why and how sdst@other.domain was added. Seems like it might have been auto-discovered?

I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
I'm a frequent user of the shared connection feature of SSH. Usually i have two or three connections open at the same time through the connection sharing feature, but sometimes when i try to start another i get the message "Shared connection to <server< closed". All the connection that are established through the connection sharing feature are still active and not closed, but when i try to create a new one i get that message.. i've even got that message when i have only had two connections through the shared connection feature.
I've tried to search google but it doesnt seem like anyone else has had the same kind of problem, does someone know why i sometimes get this error ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn my case, it occurs intermittently when trying to connect using putty's command line client 'plink.exe' to a linux machine using ssh. For some testing purposes, a linux server is setup with 8K virtual ip addresses and the testing scripts will connect to these ip addresses through ssh using plink.exe. There will be concurrently 25 ssh sessions launched to the server. While it works for sometimes, it throws 'server unexpectedly closed network connection' error intermittently. If the same ip address is tried again manually, it works. While the ssh server is accepting connections, this error is thrown sometimes and unable to find out the reason from the logs. It is not that the ssh connection is completely blocked. It gives this error message while connecting to some of the virtual ip addresses but works some times.
The hosts.deny, sshd_config are tuned to allow the connections, allow more sessions etc.
I'm dealing with two dedicated servers hosted at liquidweb. The basic idea is that one machine might not be enough to handle the traffic at launch so we have a second machine to shoulder the MySQL duties -- it seemed a natural way to divy up computation burdens.
The support staff at LW tells me that each machine has three network cards
1) Public-facing NIC through which all public visitors are served
2) NIC on LAN so that liquidweb can access the machine locally for maintenance and support
3) Third NIC so that the two machines can speak to each other rapidly on their own private network. Apparently the two machines are connected via crossover cable.
It's my understanding that machine 1 has IP of 192.168.0.1 on this third card and machine 2 has IP of 192.168.0.2 on its third card. For some reason, these machines cannot speak to each other using ping, telnet, ssh, http, or MySQL.
I've contacted tech support about this issue but was wondering how I might be sure that the MySQL traffic transits the third network card on each machine. I'm guessing that it's just a matter of using the third card's IP addresses but want to be sure. Is there any way to specify a NIC when connecting via MySQL?
We are having an issue where our network connection is dropping on our server. Everything was working for about a month without issues then suddenly we experienced a network outage. Here is what I found in our logs. Rebooting the machine was the only way to have everything come up.

We have the same exact server, running the same exact debian version for over a year with no issues.
I have been having this problem for about two weeks now where Debian's network and internet connection randomly fails. It works perfectly fine and hosts all the services I need for a while, and then without warning all network connectivity fails. I can't ping any other network device. Regardless of how much I try to fix it, the only thing that works is restarting the computer. First, the server went 7 days without a problem; then 5 days; now it lasted 2 days. Judging from my Teamspeak server logs, it crashed today at 12:31. I grep'd through my log files and found this information:

How do I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and that I dont want a DHCP on the network?Do I have to set up DHCP on the box with the shared connection, even if that box only runs DHCP for a single IP address being the eth0 that is shared?Or can I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and still allow network manager to run the shared connection?Or should I specify static IP's for all clients and the shared network manager and install say firestarter on the gateway to run the NAT for the eth0 out to eth1.

I have setup my router for a dynamic dns and forwarded all the ports through the router and the local firewall. I ran the apache setup through YAST2 and everything seems fine locally but when i attempt to access it elsewhere its not connecting. computechsolutions.dyndns.biz is the dynamic dns address i have setup through my router.

When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server.To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.
We have 2 servers, 1 is the webserver and the other is the Mysql server.
When transfering a 2GB file from the webserver to the Mysql server.
The webserver's connection to the mysql DB server dies completely.
Need to restart the MYSQL process in order for it to come back online.
During this connection downtime, when using phpmyadmin on the mysql server shows no problem running queries etc.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have configured openssh 5.8p2 with centos 5.6. My sftp is working fine with chroot environment but i am having problem with SCP. I am dealing with muliti Redhat servers. When i try to transfer data from other linux server through scp it gives connection refused. For e.g ssh 5.8 is configured on new server and i want to transfer files from old server which is using openssh 4.3 version.i created same username and password on new server as on old server.My sftp users on new server has no shell access but only sftp access. When i try to scp from old server to new server it gives error connection refused. Is the below configuration only for sftp and can't scp? According to google the configurations i found are for scp and sftp. Do i need to generate ssh keys by giving users on new server shell access, once created then stop shell access again, as i dont want to give shell access permanent for security reasons? but i want to use ssh keys for more security as well.

I am also not network savy. I would like to set up an FTP server on my home computer (presently Ubuntu 8.10). I have only one computer. I am using DSL with my telephone line for internet connection. I do not use a router.
Is it possible to do this with no router and only a DSL ISP connection?
