Server :: Save The Resolve.conf About Nameserver Forever?

Jun 20, 2011

I use red hat Es 5.5 64 bit.. I find the item nameserver in resolv.conf cannnot be saved. Everytime ,reboot or restart the netwrok service . The data in resolv.conf will be removed and clear . I need to edit it again . I also try to add DNS1=XX.XX.XX.Xx in ifcfg-eth2 but the same problem. in it , the resolv.conf is still need to edit every network service restart . So, how to save the resolve.conf about nameserver forever ??

[root@vls etc]# cat resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
# No nameservers found; try putting DNS servers into your
# ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts like so:
#
# DNS1=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# DNS2=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Fedora Networking :: Name Resolution: Resolv.conf - NetworkManager - Nameserver

Mar 22, 2009

I just installed F10 from a Live download iso on a Sony VAIO laptop with an Intel PRO/Wireless LAN2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter. The linux driver is ipw2100 and functions without problems.

After the install I accepted the update downloads offer and downloaded somewhere around 170 updates. The kernel version is 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686.

I am using a Linksys WRT55AG as a DHCP server. Using NetworkManger it assigns IP addresses without incident.

My problem is that I can't get name resolution to function without manual intervention.

I can ping other wireless nodes on my network and the response to $ dig -q www.yahoo.com is: ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: REFUSED, id: 30153

The /etc/resolv.conf file contains no entry for 'nameserver=' and if I manually edit /etc/resolv.conf, it is overwritten on reboot or restarting the NetworkManager service. I am aware of /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/resolv.conf.

Additionally, in the var/log/messages file I can see that NetworkManager makes links between /etc/resolv.conf and the default version.

However, after either rebooting or restarting the NetworkManager service, if I manually enter a DNS address 192.168.1.1 (my wireless router) under the DNS tab of the system-config-network 1.5.95 application. This address does not persist after either rebooting or restarting NetworkManager.

If I disable NetworkManager, I can't get the WRT55AG to assign the wilreless adapter an IP address.

So the bottom line and my question is what do I need to do in order to simply boot and have wireless connectivity?

To what file does system-config-network 1.5.95 write the DNS address entered from it's GUI?

Ubuntu :: Can't Find Xorg.conf And So Can't Save Changes?

Jan 23, 2010

I've been trying to setup dual-screen in my system, but the control panel complains it can't find xorg.conf and so I can't save changes I make in the nvidia control panel. I was trying various methods of trying to get a dual screen working how I like it.Left = 17" 1280x1024 that sometimes works (needs hitting a few times)Right = 21" 1680x1050 main screenI wanted to have everything on the right one, my main workspace. And I wanted a seperate x workspace on the left hand one. (Mainly so that when the one on the left decides to not work, I can use the panel thing at bottom to move apps to the right one)

Now I know since 9.10 xorg.conf is non-existant and so determind on the fly or something. Is there a way to get X to write out the current working xorg.conf that's it's using? i.e. It's auto determind x,y,z and that's what right now this second is being used. I want to save this as a working xorg.conf so I can fine tune it etc.

Server :: SOA For Nameserver Can't Be Retrieved, Possible Port Or BIND Misconfiguration?

Aug 24, 2010

My configuration: CentOS in a VPS environment, I have 2 static IPs at my disposal.I'm having trouble setting up my nameservers. I've registered the nameservers with my registrar and supplied the GLUE records, however my registrar has not yet applied this information into the DNS zone, because my nameservers fail to generate a response on port 53.DNS check says the following about my nameserver address:Checking SOA records for domain. Domain server is not answering to UDP requests on port 53. Possible problems: A firewall is blocking port 53, server is down, server is not running software for handling dns requests. So the only two possibilities I see is that my port 53 is somehow blocked or not properly set to accept and send the correct traffic or that I've misconfigured BIND.

Hardware :: Save - Xinput Set-int-prop - Properties To Xorg.conf ?

May 19, 2009

I have a Elo AccuTouch 2216 USB touchscreen that seems automatically supported by a clean install of Ubuntu 9.04.

However, to actually use it correctly, I need to run some xinput commands to invert the Y axis and calibrate:

Code:

These properties are shown by xinput list-props and documented as properties in the evdev Xorg input driver man page.

My questions is - where can I configure or save these settings so I don't have to ever enter again? On older versions of Ubuntu for serial touchscreens I'd add to xorg.conf, but that seems to be depreciated and these are listed as properties instead of options.

CentOS 5 Server :: Loading Multiple Virtual Host Conf Files From Httpd.conf?

Jun 1, 2009

I've been scanning the apache2 docs for the past few days and have not come up with an answer my following issue:

In my httpd.conf file, at the very end, I have the line

Include conf/vhosts/vhost_*.conf

However, when I run apache checkconfig or try to start apache, it gives me the error:

httpd: Syntax error on line 993 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/vhost_1.conf: Permission denied

It appears as if the Include line is correct - in terms of it grabbing the first virtual host conf file. However, I'm confused on the permissions. the /etc/httpd folder is owned by root:root, as are the subfolders. As a test, I chown'd the conf/vhost folder combination and all the vhost files to apache:apache to see if that made a difference, and it appeared to make no difference at all. The log files don't contain anything (assumed because apache isn't starting). If I place the contents of the vhosts in a singular vhosts.conf it works - with the permissions set to root:root. I'd like to avoid having to use one vhosts conf for the configuration I'm trying to achieve - as it would make my life a lot easier.

Server :: FreeRadius - PQexec Blocks Forever Due To Connection Timeout

Jan 5, 2010

I've configured the RADIUS to use a PostgreSQL DB for accounting. Everything works fine if the connection from the RAD to the SQL is OK. If the PostgreSQL service dead, the RAD will skip the failed connection and continue to work. That's OK, too. But if I shutdown the network interface of the SQL (simulating a connection lost - timeout problem), the RAD thread which processes accounting request will be hung up, remains as active and unresponsive forever. So the RAD will not return anything to accounting client (my NAS).

As more accounting requests come, spare threads for processing the requests will reduce and be used up eventually. I've debugged for a while and found it's the problem of PQexec() function. The function blocks the thread eternally till if the connection lost. I know the RAD version is a little outdated, but I cannot replace it right now. I wonder if there's a way to make the RAD reply to the NAS even when the connection between the RAD and the SQL lost.

Server :: Resolv.conf Was Edited, Server Stopped Serving Websites?

Feb 21, 2010

I'll preface this by saying i'm by no means an expert on Linux. A competant beginner at most.We have a dedicated server, the 'resolv.conf' was changed, specifically the domain that was listed (this is the primary domain).I only became aware of this change, when we get into work on Friday and all our sites were down - I attributed this to DNS fault as if I changed my host file (I work on a windows machine) and specifically routed to the domains to the correct IP address, the websites were served fine.I tracked down the resolv.conf change by quizzing a collegue. I then switched the resolv.conf file back to it's original state - luckily a backup was made so I am 100% sure that the current resolv.conf is the correct one.

change was made Friday morning, around 9.30am (UK time). It is now 5.05pm (UK time). The original change was made sometime on Weds afternoon, and the sites stopped serving between Thursday night and Friday morning.Does anyone have any idea how long it should take for the fix to be picked up? Will it be picked up? I just started to think that the change can't be picked up due to some DNS related voodoo.
