Server :: Apache - Redirect Through A .htaccess File In My Root Folder
Feb 2, 2011
I need to redirect through a .htaccess file in my root folder. The redirect needs to be done from http://www.department.univeristy.edu/reuir to a different server [url]. I am having trouble in determining the pattern that is required for it to take effect.
I want to give a 404 error when the index.html file is requested, i already know how to do this in php, but i cant seem to locate any information about how to do it in htaccess. I thought about just redirecting index.html to a page that dose not exist, but i would like to do it correctly from the start.
I have recently merged two Joomla 1.0 sites I ran into one. I imported the articles I wanted to keep to the new site, and I have the old site's domain pointing as an alias at the new site. The new site is www.theouthousers.com . The old site was www.bludblood.com .
I also have the core SEF URLs on, using the htaccess.txt file that came with Joomla.
I have one writer for the old site who linked to his articles in various places, so I am trying to set up redirects for him so that he doesn't have to change all of his links.
To redirect to the equivalent location on the new site:
[url]
And I also need specific links like:
[url]
To redirect to their new counterparts:
[url]
Keeping in mind that www.bludblood.com is now an alias of www.theouthousers.com, is there any way to do this? I have been trying with rewrite rules and redirects, and cannot seem to achieve the desired effect.
Tried various versions of:
Code: Redirect [url] [url]
With the http, without, as regexps, as 301s, as permanents, etc, and it just will not work. Also tried as RewriteRule.
I know that I can use the Redirect directive in apache to redirect users to another domain with "Redirect permanent / http://www.newdomain.tld", but when I use that line the entire URL is preserved.
For example, if a user tries to access [url] they will be redirected to [url]. Is it possible to redirect all requests to the root of the new domain [url]?
I've set my document root directory in httpd.conf to the directory I want to serve files out of, and set Options to Indexes FollowSymLinks; I've saved the configuration file and restarted apache, yet when I direct my browser to the domain name that's seated there, I can't get at my index.html which exists there. It serves index.html when it exists in the natural document root.
I couldn't help but notice that there are some lines in the default file that resemble those that should be in a htaccess file.
AllowOverride None Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all
[Code]...
If I am running multiple virtual hosts, what happens to the default file? When I put my ip into a browser "http://ip.ip.ip.ip" I get a forbidden message. but all URLs point to where they are supposed to... Maybe its because I don't have an index file in the www folder.. (not at the machine, will try it later to see what happens).
I have a folder on my server i want to protect with http authentication but i have problem. i created a password htpasswd -c .htpasswd razzera
then i created a .htaccess file in the folder and added AuthType Basic AuthName "Restricted Files" # (Following line optional) AuthBasicProvider file AuthUserFile /.htpasswd Require user razzera
but when i go tho the folder it wont request any login details. why ??
I am administoring a few websites and the latest website to be deployed has a few "unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable, referer: " errors in the apache-error log.
That is fine, becuase the directory doesnt contain a .htaccess file.
Is there a setting whereby I can turn off this error ?
I dont want to turn off checking for .htaccess files because some directorys have this file and use it.
I've got a dedicated server using whm/cpanel and there is a particular domain being hosted which contains a very elaborate .htaccess file which is full of mod_rewrite rules, among other things. I've been asked to try and get the contents of this .htaccess file into the httpd.conf (or some appropriate include file) to improve performance.
I've been reading this page and it's really confusing me: [url]
In the file usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf I see that there are two VirtualHost sections that appear to be relevant for my domain (which I'll call mydomain.com). The first listens on port 80 and the second is on 443. Seems to me that my apache directives in .htaccess would belong in this section. In the first section I see this:
Code:
In the second section I see this:
Code:
The problem with both of these is that the directory /usr/local/apache/conf/userdata does not exist, much less the full path to either of those files.
I'm sure this is something simple, but I've googled all over and can't find the answer for the life of me. I've got an apache server and I need to redirect all requests to HTTPS in the same domain, except for 1 html file the load balancer hits and needs to get a 200 on. Can anyone point me to some documentation or show me what I need to add to the httpd.conf file to get it working properly?
I'm using Apache 2 on a Linux server and I was wondering if it was possible to redirect certain IP ranges to another page. I know it's possible to block an IP, but is there a way to block all IP's and only allow a certain IP range to connect, such as 5.87.xxx.xxx? I own this server, so if I need to use another OS, webserver, change configuration files, etc., that's fine.
I have httpd server installed and I need to do redirect all the requests from clients thats start with a http://abc.*.* on to [url]. I know this has to be done with Rewrite conditions but Im at a loss coming up with the right condition. this site doesnt have any virtual hosts configured. Currenlty I only can access the apache test page.
I have an Apache 2.2.3 server and I am trying to get it it to redirect from http://mydomain.com/ to [url].
I have tried the following
Redirect / [url]
and
RewriteEngine on RewriteRule / [url]
The problem is i have many other contexts.
context1 context2 context3
So if you go to [url] you get re-directed to context1. Which is not what I want. Basically I am asking how can I set the default context on the server to context1 if you do not type it?
How can I redirect my URL after a site move.I have phpBB forum software installed on a 10.04 server, and I recently moved the forums from mysite.com/forums/ to mysite.com/.
So, a thread that looked like mysite.com/forums/viewtopic=... now looks like
My server (CentOS 5.4) is being bombarded 24x7 with IP addresses from China trying to exploit phpMyAdmin. For every one I block on the firewall, half a dozen come to the funeral! It's a pity these morons don't have something better to occupy their time. I'm getting page after page of this (see below) every day and it's been going on for weeks. I don't even have phpMyAdmin on the server. I don't use it and I deleted it.
I've read that you can use .htaccess and / or mod_rewrite to redirect / block them based on any query for phpMyAdmin (they try all letters in upper and lower case, leading to page after page). Unfortunately, I have no idea of how to do this. I already have an .htaccess file. Maybe someone can suggest what to add to stop these pests from wasting my bandwidth and suggest somewhere I could redirect them to to cause them maximum problems. I don't want to block the entire country, seems a bit like overkill, not all Chinese are morons. we aren't even in the USA, so why they are doing this is beyond me.
A TINY sample! [Sun Aug 08 13:29:08 2010] [error] [client 61.191.41.53] File does not exist: /var/www/corp/phpMyAdmin-2.7.2
I'm trying to make a redirect rule on my .htaccess but it's not working as planned.
Quote:
The first rule works fine, but on the second rule i do have a problem.
When I type http://domain.com/?tempskin=_rss2 the redirect does not work, but if I change the ? to any other character or even group of characters, the redirect works fine. example:
[url] will be redirected to [url]
But i do need to redirect the ?tempskin=_rss2. I already tried some variations on the redirect rule without any success.
quesiton is how I can redirect http://www.thispage.com to http://my.page.com and still retail displaying http://www.thispage.com.The issue is if I point in httpd.conf to directory where my.page.com it doesnt work because it knows it address.
I am trying to show library content (asp files, IIS server, MySQL database on Windows Server 2003 - Inetpub/wwwroot/library - 192.168.0.3) publicly. But Apache webserver is on Linux machine. In one of previos topics I was adviced to mount this remote machine webfolder into Linux /var/www. Well this way it want work. I was adviced it can be done through redirecting.
I have a website example.com, serving pages on port 80. I want the url example.com/redmine to be rewritten to port 3000, where my redmine server is running, without actually changing the URL. So the user typing in example.com/redmine/test would serve up example.com:3000/test, without the user actually connecting through the port. I know this can work through CPanel, but I don't know exactly how it was implemented. I'm looked at how mod_proxy, mod_proxy_html, and mod_rewrite,
I am using Apache with Kerberos security enabled. The http page simply lists the directories contained in /var/www/html. I want to make only one of the directories in the document root secured so that when someone clicks on it, it requires him/her to enter credentials. Right now when I place the .htaccess file in the directory I want to protect, the directory is hidden from the list and the user has to enter the whole path to get authenticated and access the files.
I've tried Options +Indexes which was posted all over the net, but it didn't work.
In my nagios server, an htaccess file have been created for it so any time you want to open it, a window opens for you to enter user name and passwords. Now, what I want to do now is to integrate the nagios into a portal that is written in php so that when customers login to the portal, they can access the nagios with out it popping out the user and password windows. What is going to happen is, the password of nagios will be store in an orient database so the users when they try to access nagios true the portal, they will be login automatically.
I have a site hosted on a cheap hosting company and I need to allow write access to certain users in certain directories, sometimes on a file basis.
Q: how do I do that in a .htaccess file?
I have never used .htaccess although from what I read it looks straightforward but when I try it, I get a "500 server error" even with the example .htaccess file the hosting company suggested I use. (I have informed the host as they require and am awaiting their answer)
The site is automatically set up with a couple of dot file in the root directory when I got it, they are:
