Oct 14, 2010I want to be able to check the contents of a text file for a specific string and remove it from the file from the command prompt. I would basically be searching through a number of files and if a specific string is found I would like it removed automatically. pretty much a find and replace, were the replace is nothing. any one got any ideas on how you would do this. I already have the search part sorted just need to be able to remove the string I don't want from the multiple files.

After that I will need to compare that IP to whatismyip and if it's different then replace it but that is easy to do with sed. I just can't figure this simple hurdle out.

Sep 24, 2014I am having trouble writing a script that monitors a text file. When the file contains number 1 (or any other string that is not a command) it does nothing, but when it is something different from 1, it executes that command.
So, there are 2 files: monitor.mon - this is the file that will be checked constanlty; and test.sh - the script that does the job. The monitor.mon file will have its content modified by php. This means a web page will have a form where I input commands and writes does commands in the file. Test.sh will watch when the file's content changes from character 1 to a command, execute that command and write back a 1 so it will not execute it more times.
I tried combining while and if but with no success. Tried reading the file with cat and grep -e but it doesn't seem to recognize when content changes.

May 13, 2011My server was hit with an injection script which has placed code across many of my clients files. I need a script that can remove a block of php code that spans multiple lines, multiple directories/files and is dynamic, meaning that part of the code changes. I think using find/sed is what I need but cannot seem to figure out how to get it to work.The following is the script that is being injected everywhere. The catch is that they have generated dynamic code at the start/end of the script. (I have commented the parts that are dynamically changing on EVERY instance).PLEASE NOTE: Directly following this script is the start of a valid php script that I do not want to delete.

Dec 16, 2010Contained within each of these 67 text files is about 1 million urls. Yes. I have 67 text files that contain 1 million lines of urls each. I am sure I am swimming in duplicates. I tried opening one text file and clicking sort ----->remove duplicates. Now Gedit is not responding my processor is maxed out to 100% and I think I am finally ready to delve into some command line code. Can anyone give me idiot proof instructions on how to sort the duplicates out of each one of these 67 text files? How about no duplicates across all 67?

1) Instead of removing packages one by one is there a way to remove all packages written in that text file?
2) Why isn't the output of the show-leaves plugin compatible with the output of "package-cleanup --leaves"?
