Server :: Deleted QMail "mess" Folder?
Jan 18, 2011I have deleted the folder "/var/qmail/queue/mess/*". I know this is really bad. How do I recover from this?I did some searches, but all I got was "Whatever you do, DON'T DO THAT"

Apr 22, 2011I am installing qmail on centos 5.4. I run
"rpmbuild -bb --with cnt5064 qmail-toaster.spec"
then todo edit in file chkuser_settings.h in
vi /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/qmail-1.03/chkuser_settings.h
but I am not getting complete folder qmail-1.03 why is it so...

Jun 29, 2011I am aware that there is a qmail-ldap package to have ldap back end for qmail. But I need only user authentication for qmail through ldap (not the backend; i.e still keeping Mysql as the database). I am pretty new to mail server configuration. I have just configured a (q)mail server (which is currently my sand box) and am able send and receive emails. I am planning to add ldap authentication (just that) to it. Can anyone point me to the right direction?

Feb 12, 2011is qmail server running in the secondary office and it was working fine. yesterday qmail suffered some problem.i came to know about the problem today.now after troubleshooting and looking into the server, the qmailclt stat commands shows that all services are working and there is nothing going crazy in the server. Apr 1, 2010we have qmail server installed on rhl 9. it was working perfectly fine for last 1 year. suddenly it stopped accepting emails from internet. when i telnet on port 25 it takes about 90 secs to show the SMTP ready state.I have tried many things
1. stopped Reverse DNS Lookup by adding -H to qmail-smtpd/run file
2. stopped spamassing and AV
3. reverified DNS server settings in resolv.conf
4. dig is resolving dns query properly.
i also observed that when i do telnet to
telnet localhost 25 response is very quick
but when i do
telnet local_server_IP_address 25
it takes aprx 90 secs to show me SMTP ready messege.
can someone shed some light on this as what should i do next to rectify this problem..

Jan 15, 2011Two month ago I accidentally deleted my home folder (yes, very stupid idea but it wasn't on purpose).
I managed to recover the home folder from /home/.Trash-0/tobias by copying it back to where it belongs and changing the file ownership from "root" to my user (tobias).
After this recovery I tried to delete /home/.Trash-0/tobias but it wouldn't work. Whenever I tried, a new folder appeared in /home/.Trash-0/ (root home) named tobias.2, tobias.2.2 and so on. (see first screenshot). This means I had two copies of my home folder on my hard disk (2 x 156.1 GB at that time).
At that time I didn't care since I had enough disk space left (33.8 GB, see second screenshot) and thought Ubuntu would take care of this some time by removing the files in /home/.Trash-0/.
Fast forward to today, I get warnings of low disk space. My home folder today is around 160 GB but together with the deleted one in /.Trash-0/ I only have 1.3 GB disk space left in my home folder.
Any ideas how to delete the unused second home folder copy? Or is there some other way to free the disk space occupied by .Trash-0/ ?
(Ubuntu 10.04. LTS on vaio VPCEB1S1E btw)

Aug 3, 2010I am doing this project for our school. Basically we want to pipe all incoming emails to a script which filters out certain messages (not only spam but duplicates, large messages, etc). If they fail certain criteria, the script simply does nothing.If they pass , then the script should pass the entire message (headers and body) back on to qmail to send. The piping part is not a problem, but I am stuck with the next part. Jan 26, 2011I am using qmail in my office. I am noticing this for more than a month. It is my daily routine to check the cpu utilization using top command and by using top different processes can be viewed. the apache process after 1 or 2 days shows cpu utilization of 100%. There is no affect on the server whatsoever of 100% because mail server has 2 processors of 4 core, i think so that may be the reason. Can any one explain why is this happening. What i do after that is i restart the httpd process and cpu utilization comes to normal. What are the reasons behind this and how to solve this permanently.

I have installed rpm and source packages before with little trouble by following the guides available on the support site and wiki for centos.I am running centos 5.4 on a virtual server.I followed the guide for installing vpopmail at URL...mailSince this is a VPS server I cannot install gnome and is why I opted for vpopmail + qmail.
The first issue I have is: I don't know how to tell qmail to start up automatically because after the install of qmail from source as the guide told me to, it did not place a startup files in the /etc/init.d, and I can't find any useful documentation on how to trouble shoot that.I try to use "chkconfig qmail on" and "chkconfig --level 345 qmail on" but both give me the error "error reading information on service qmail: No such file or directory"The version of qmail I am using is the latest 1.0.3, and the version of vpopmail is 5.5.
Vpopmail seems to be working just fine, as is the mysqlauth mod. I check the vpopmail database in mysql, and all the values I used for the domain and user show up there.The settings also show in the qmail configuration directory files for the domain.My first clue as to something being wrong was that when I send an email to the address I setup, I get nothing delivered on the server, but I also do not get any bounce backs or errors to tell me the details of what went wrong.At first I figured it was my firewall, so I disabled iptables.That did not fix it.I also tried disabling SElinux. That also made no difference.
