1) during boot process its staing: "Failed services in runlevel 5" and "waring GdmDisplay: display lasted 2.1317348 seconds" and " GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximun number of X display failure reached.
2) /var/log/Xorg.n.log files (n=1-5) "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"
General :: Microsoft Install Via Wine - INF Driver?
Apr 10, 2011I'm still a bit green at Linux - not enough that the terminal scares me, but I still need to figure out with my 'networking' which programs do what. I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like. Anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end.

For the life of me, I've never met anyone that gets more viruses and problems with her computer. So I'm wondering if I can switch her over to Linux and use Microsoft Office 2007 in WINE. OpenOffice isn't a possibility, I'm already pushing it asking her to learn how to use Linux. (I know it isn't hard, I use it myself, but she will fight to the death about using Microsoft Office) So how's Office in WINE?

Jun 2, 2011I'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?

I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 and opened it with Wine (read it was the best and easiest to use) after a few seconds I get an error message asking me to install msxml 6.10.1129.0, So I did some further research and found a bunch of links for download but from experience I did not attempt any as I know my PC can get infected. When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done.The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

Jun 30, 2010I am new to Linux and wow, it did not take me long to run into a huge snag. I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol

(Return to Castle Wolfenstein)I tried downloading some demos and it says BLOCKED: WINE START UNIX and to read the executable bit. I did, and it says it will NOT install any programs downloaded from the internet. I thought 'fine, I guess they have to be retail games' so I popped the disk in and it tells me the same thing. Any exe program I EVER try to install from anywhere is just BLOCKED: WINE START UNIX. Why is this happening?

Feb 11, 2011Im having a little problem removing wine programs.
Firstly i tried going into the wine menu and selecting uninstall under the programs tab in the menu, it said it was successfully uninstalled but if failed to remove anything.
Then i tried "uninstall wine software" under the wine tab and that still didn't change anything.
Finally i tried removing wine itself with "sudo apt-get remove wine" again it said wine was successfully removed, and again nothing changed wine and all its programs are still here.

When I click on them in the Wine folder, a tab on the bottom of the screen says Opening "program name" then it just sits there then disappears and the program doesn't open.
