Red Hat :: PolicyKit Rpm For RHEL 5.4?
Mar 10, 2010I am looking for PolicyKit rpm for my RHEL 5.4 64 bit machine. I looked in most of the places but couldn't find one. Can somebody point me to this? Even the source rpm would be fine.

View 5 RepliesIn F11 to run PolicyKit I entered the following at the command line.
polkit-gnome-authorization
In F12 this doesn't work. I get an error message "command not found"
How do I access PolicyKit in Fedora 12?
How can I get rid of all policykit restrictions that fedora 13 has? I just upgraded from fedora 10 and of course my freenx sessions are again unable to do anything useful like mounting a drive. Difference is no GUI now to help fix this. So I would like to get rid of all restrictions.

How do I go about making this edit for however 10.04 handles PolicyKit calls now?
It details I should be replacing a line that looks like

Any ideas where I would find such a line?
I can't seem to find the "Authorizations" GUI that was present in earlier ubuntus for configuring system policies. It used to be in System - Administration - Authorizations. Which package does it come in? What's the console command for it?

Looks like its some sort of PolicyKit issue. Documentation (and I suspect the system itself) all assume that I have only one user. But my computer is a two-seat, my girlfriend and I are logged in at the same time. Only I am able to mount and write to USB drives. I suspect its because my account is always logged in first.
Dolphin gives the following error: org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy
blah blah org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable auth_admin_keep_always
So my guess is that this "auth_admin" for some reason only refers to my user. I opened up the "Global Configuration" application (something that typed up when I filtered for 'policy' in the application launcher), and added my user, my girlfriends user and the 'user' group as "System Administrators". I logged out and logged back in on her account and this did nothing.
why can I not allow remote sessions admin rights? why is there a remote exception thrown when Gnome auto mounts my cdrom? Here is a valid use case for auto mounting on a headless server. Server live in external room, admin pc lives in different part of same building. Server needs new software on CD admin walks to server puts cd in server walks to admin pc installs software. Currently you need to mount manually. not a big deal but could be so much easier if I didn't have to do this.who can a moan to in order to get policykit changed.
P.S. I'm a developer willing to put my time where my mouth is and change this.
after a recent update my policykit permissions stopped working, and I can't understand why.An example: mounting a flash drive requires password, hinting on rg.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount. /usr/share/polkit-/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy has the following:
Code:
<action id="org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount">

is possible to edited the default RHEL CD to have it automatically install RHEL based off of a kickstart file that I will store locally on the CD. My plan would be to put a cd in a server and have the OS automatically being installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA client has sent me an RHEL 5.1 box for me to do some work on, but it's not registered with Red Hat. This is causing me problems, because it's a minimal installation, and I need some more dev software. My immediate reaction was to install various bits (emacs, and so on) from my Centos 5(.0) DVD.The base RHEL system only had one (disabled) repo entry,so I added a yum DVD repo entry in yum.conf.d.
This looked good to start with, but it doesn't work. Something in RHEL's pirut/yum/rpm/whatever is getting confused, and can't work out what is/isn't installed.
Question - how do you maintain an unregistered RHEL box? Has RH done something to make life difficult? Is my problem simply that I'm using a Centos 5.0 DVD, instead of Centos 5.1? Am I stuck with downloading lots of rpms from the net and doing everything manually? I really don't want to do that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEnvironment:RHEL 5.2 and 5.4 AP x86_64, 2 drives (sda, sdb), installing without optional features like clustering and virtualization. I have tried this for a couple of days now and just can't get it to work. My goal is to take the RHEL 5.2 DVD and RHEL 5.4 DVD and install them on separate drives of the same machine. I want the grub menu to give me a choice. I prefer to understand the steps and choices offered me by the install dialog to do this rather than fiddle with grub.conf. If that is not possible, I will write up the bug.
So far, I just get the the error 13 when trying to start the grub added second OS. I have read elsewhere that "Anaconda frequently recognizes the other operating system and sets up grub so you can boot from either operating system". That would be nice. The install dialog lets me choose a drive to install to. I have figured out that I need to check "review and modify partitioning layout" to enter the advanced grub choices. Do I have it install a boot loader for the 1st OS? Trying to add the 1st OS during the second OS install creates a grub conf with no kernel line in the added boot stanza.
I am new to RHEL. I am trying to get into VNC viewer but i am unable to do so.
I have 2 issues.
1. How do i see other desktops using vnc from RHEL.
2. How do i access RHEL using vnc from other desktops.
For the 2nd point i have done the steps what ever i could find i.e,
- Putting a passwd for the vnc server
-addding ports from 5900-5904
-editing the xorg.conf file
-restarting the machine.
I did get a successful connection from a windows machine into the RHEL server but then the server hangs and keyboard does not work so i have to restart it.
I'm testing using RHEL 5 and Squid 2.6.STABLE6, with using 2 NIC which is 192.168.1.200 (ETH0/INTERNET) and 192.168.3.1 (ETH1/LAN). I already setup my DNS in /etc/resolv.conf !
- When I put ETH1-off ETH0-on, I could connect to internet, but when i put ETH1-on ETH0-on, I couldn't connect to internet. Why ? Did i should route the traffic from ETH1 to ETH0 and vice versa ?
- I follow each step in this link and edit line :
Code:
acl intranet src 192.168.3.0/24
, and also put this command in iptables :
Code:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp dport 80 -j REDIRECT to-port 3128

trying to install Veritas Storage Foundation HA on RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.(64 bit)OS was fresh installed (haven't updated anything yet). I tried to start the VSF installer as stated in the documentations. Change directory to cdrom and where the files are located and typed ". ./installer" It is supposed to launch the installer but instead, the terminal window closed itself. I think I'm missing something here. Don't think it's the media problem. Either I run it from window by double-clicking or run from terminal window, it closes and nothing happens.
