Fedora Networking :: Vodafone Mobile Broadband K3805-Z Not Working?
Jan 9, 2011I need Internet on the road so brought a netbook and a USB Mobile Broadband stick. I've followed the installation instructions provided by the provider but this still does not work. I've also tried a couple of similar installation instructions found around the net. Has anybody had any luck getting this to work in Fedora 14? How did you or how can I get this to work?

I hope I am not the only one (so it will be fixed), but since I haven't found any others having the same problem yet, I am not so confident.I started using mobile broadband, via a HUAWEI E1762 HSPA USB stick since Jaunty. I've had the same problem in jaunty as I do now in Karmic. Although in Karmic, i've had additional problems (that problem i've found listed as a known bug).The problem is that when I get my mobile broadband to connect, it is sometimes, somehow, not fully connected. Symptoms are as follows:
1. panel icon shows connected and good strength (good)
2. skype connects, and I can chat and voip (good)
3. ping does not work (bad)

Jul 9, 2010My friend switch to Ubuntu (he has a 9.10) and want to set up the mobile broadband. He has a usb modem stick Hyundai mb-810. We tried everything - from the usb-modeswitch to wvdial and nothing works. We have read millions of pages of tutorials and forums but still - nothing works. He is now thinking to go to Windoze XP and leaving the Linux community though he is impressed with the Ubuntu.

Jul 25, 2010i am using ubuntu 10.04. my huawei e1550 usb mobile broadband modem was detected out of the box and was working fine . But after unlocking it with a software,the modem is detected and when i connect ,it immediately disconnects. unlocking was some 'Firmware upgrade' . I tried other distros like pclinuxOs but the same problem prevails. and it is working in windows.

Oct 21, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on Hp Mini 110. I can't get Mobile Broadband to work ... whenever I plug a USB device in, nothing is detected and there is no option to connect to mobile broadband. The devices I have tested are;
1. ZTE MF636
2. ZTE MF626
3. Huawei K3565-Z
4. Nokia 5800XM phone in PC Suite Mode (works on my other laptop running Ubuntu 10.04)
I have tried uninstalling with a full purge of USB-Modeswitch and then reinstalling it. This machine is upgraded from 10.04. It wasn't working in 10.04 either.
Ubuntu Networking :: Wind Mobile Huawei E181 USB Broadband Not Working?
Oct 19, 2010I just installed 10.10 on a my new Aspire One Acer netbook and I got a mobile broadband USB stick from Wind mobile.
The stick is activated because it works on my 20 GB Windoze 7 O.S. but it doesn't work at all on my 140 GB Ubuntu O.S. Both systems are on the same machine so I know it's not a hardware problem either.
Here's what happens: I log on to Ubuntu, plug in the stick and I select the "New mobile broadband GSM connection" in the network connections menu.
From there I selected my country (Canada) and my mobile provider (Wind Mobile) than I selected my plan (Mobile Broadband) and my APN (broadband.windmobile.ca).
Then the stick blinks slowly and the network icon looks forever for a connection but no matter how long I wait no connection ever establishes. My roomate has it working on his HP laptop Ubuntu but no luck on mine. The stick just keeps blinking, a steady light indicates a connection.

Apr 7, 2011I have an acer 532h aspire one, running ubuntu 10.04.
Basically, I bought a Telstra Turbo USB broadband stick and I've been having a bit of hell getting it to work. First I couldn't get the computer to recognize it had been plugged in at all. I downloaded the modeswitch packages to no avail. I tried a few other terminal tweaks but they didn't change anything either. I left the card in and restarted the netbook and it finally recognized the wireless card. I was able to surf the internet for an hour or so a couple times. But after stowing the computer away for a couple hours and turning it on again, I found that this work around was no longer effective. So now I'm back to the blue light never blinking and I have to tether my phone and pay ridiculous data charges because I'm in the middle of nowhere.
I'm really new at troubleshooting things that don't work right out of the box.
It's a telstra turbo prepaid wireless broadband. The stick isn't even recognized as removable media.

Nov 7, 2010In the previous versions of Fedora, the check for updates when connected through mobile broadband appeared disabled, which made sense as I don't want updates when connected through a mobile phone but will wait until I'm connected through either ethernet or wifi.
Took my laptop into work on Friiday (9am Friday is the time concert tickets go onsale). Connected to mobile broadband using Fedora 14 and got the updates available icon, surely this shouldn't happen?

May 1, 2009Im able to use nm-applet just fine to setup broadband card. Its a Sprint Sierra 598u. Im running Fedora 10 KDE version. Anyone know how to get it working? i tried the setup process but all it tells me is set up GPS or CDMA so i go CDMA for mine, but then it has some default name, and no providers, as the UBUNTU version did at least...i setup best i can but then after closing configs, i go to nm-applet icon in bottom-right and it doesn't show the mobile broadband connection, also any wireless connections don't work for some reason, but DO show up. just wont connect (which i got every so often when using ubuntu on the machine, was usually a switch off or restart away from fine

Jun 30, 2009I tried at Fedora 10, didn't work, and then Ubuntu 9.0.4, in the hope of it may work, my CDMA 1x Mobile broadband.( it works well under Win XP). and it didn't work.And then it comes the Fedora 11, still the same problem.
Seems Linux cannot recoginize my CMDA 1x Mobile Bbroadband, becuase the newwork manager doesn't pop up with messages of detecting a new hardware.

Figured out how to change from USB CD device tot modem, but still cannot get it to work, Especially how to get it showing up in NetworkManager as a mobile broadband device. May 8, 2010I'm having problems with my mobile connection. This has been working fine for months, but in the past few days it has connected OK, I've been able to transfer data, but after 30s the connection closes. Setup is Acer AA1 with F12 connecting via bluetooth to Nokia 3110c on O2.
So to try and figure out what's happening I put the bluetooth dongle in my desktop PC, also running F12, made a connection and again it dropped out after 30s. Then I fired up windows on the AA1 and made a connection using the same dongle, this time it held up OK. This leads me to think that something has changed recently in F12 to upset it.

Nov 4, 2010This is not really a problem but I'd like to know if anything can be done about it.I run Fedora 12 (kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686)/Gnome 2.28.2 on my Acer Aspire One netbook with a 1.6GHz Atom CPU and 1.5Gb RAM.I use a Huawei E160 mobile broadband modem to get online and this works OK; but (for example) I am on Airliners.net and looking at the trip reports, the photos are somewhat 'fuzzy'. Obviously the modem does not download too much data and you just have to do Shift+A to get it to 'reload' the pictures. After this they are crystal clear.However, is there a config setting that you could alter to do this automatically � e.g. download all the image data at once? I have looked in the Network Manager settings for my mobile broadband account and there is nothing in there.

Apr 3, 2011In the last week I have noticed that sometimes my Mobile Broadband connection just goes off without me doing anything! I have credit on the dongle account, so it isn't that. I'm using fedora 14 on an acer aspire one netbook. Dongle is a Huawei E160 on o2 here in the UK Kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.i686.fc14
Sometimes unplugging and replugging the usb dongle works. Othertimes, I have to leave it out for several hours. It does seem to happen daily, though.

Sep 5, 2011I few days ago I bought a mobile broadband, with dongle model Huawei e1820. I have no problem connecting to the internet. The settings in network manager are correct. But when I use the modem with high traffic for a while, like streaming, the speed gets slower and slower until finally the modem shuts down and restarts itself. After the modem restarts, it connects to the internet again, but now the speed is terrible. And if i continue using high traffic it will restart itself in a matter of minutes. But if I plug it out and don't use it for a while, the speed is back to "acceptable". For a while...
I'm using fedora 15, and have also tried it on Ubuntu Natty with the same result. Reinstalled usb_modeswitch. configured usb_modeswitch with all the guides on the web. No results.

Apr 17, 2011I have discovered that my ISP drops down my mobile broadband connection specially at night. It is a very annoying fact because this type of net access is not cheap at all. I am using Fedora 14 newest core. I am able to configure Network Manager to automatically connect, but... this option does not solve the redialing issue.
Is there any way to set up redialing a dropped mobile broadband connection? A perl or python script, may be?

Jun 22, 2011i have ubuntu 11.04 installed through wubi. ubuntu seems to be able to identify hauwei mobile broadband e1750 but whenever i activate it, it looks like its trying to connect and than after a second, it re-connects if i carefully observe the signal symbol n the upper right corner.
it looks like as if it was blocked off everytime it connected, i have no clue

Mar 11, 2009I have a Mobile Broadband connection (as NetworkManager calls it) that works very well until the latest update. Now it fails to connect 99.9% of the time. When it does connect it works very sluggishly.
I didn't update a second computer I have and it still works fine here. Both run F10 x86_64, both are fully updated (except for NM on this one).

Fedora Networking :: Getting Mobile Broadband Connection To Autostart Upon Boot
Jun 14, 2009I just installed Fedora 11 (excellent work by the Fedora team!) and got my Verizon mobile USB CDMA device working after some file modifications (easily found via searching).
I have to click the network icon in the task bar, and select "Auto Mobile Broadband (CDMA) Connection" to get it to connect though. It then shows up via "ifconfig" as ppp0 and all is good.
But how do I get this to auto-start when the system reboots? It doesn't show up in the network manager, and I'm not even sure how to use command-line to start up the CDMA connection! I only can do it via clicking that icon.

Nov 22, 2009My connection is much slower on linux than windows (I'm dualbooting so its easy to test). On speedtest.net I get 0.30Mb/s at most on linux but about 2Mb/s on windows.Torrents does not seem to be affected thou. I've got speeds up to about 150kB/s on Fedora.I'm running a fresh install of Fedora 12 64 bit.

Mar 22, 2010I have just installed fedora12 from the Live CD couldn't get my mobile broadband to work on the Live CD, thought I would go ahead and install anyway and hoped for more success from the installation.
But nothing seems to work. I have tried just plugging it in and waiting for it to be registered, I have tried various manual set ups including enabling point to point encryption in the VPN manager and nothing seems to work at all.
The device is a Huawei K3520 USB modem.
Am I just doing something really stupid or is there some obscure method to get this working.
This is the only internet connection which i have available at the moment so anything I download will have to be done through Windows and copied across, i.e. I can't use YUM.

Feb 1, 2011In Fedora 14 (kernel 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.i686) I am not able to get an internet connection on my laptop via mobile broadband. However dialing succeeds and the provider starts the daily flate rate accounting.I tried the graphical network management as well as wvdial and even sakis3g (achitecture free variant from URl...).With wvdial (well configured I think) and sakis3g the dial connection is established (permanent blue light on Huawei E169). "netstat -ie" shows that the network configuration has changed (device pp0 instead of eth0 and "netstat -rn" shows that default router is set to 10.64.64.64). But "ping" does not receive data from any internet IP address and browser cannot render any website. A later check call of my prepaid balance said that the daily rate countdown was initiated (so I pay for nothing).
The GUI of the KDE network icon seems to work similar but does not set the usb key into the connected state (only blinking blue light and break-off after a few seconds).Disabling of selinux didn't change anything as well.With Mandriva 2010 I didn't have any problems with same mobile key and provider.

Dec 26, 2009I have a little bit of a prediciment with my Mobile Broadband dongle, even though I know I'm in a 3G area (Dongle Supports 3G connection) my internet still loads at the normal GPRS speeds max of 5kb/s. Is there anyway to change the speed of it or do I have to keep with GPRS at the moment?
