Red Hat / Fedora :: USB Disk Auto Copy Files?

Mar 21, 2011

I am not a programmer so, with scripts I am cold.I need this. When I plug in USb external disk, a files and folders are automatically copied from one folder on fedora, to my USB disk. And if files or folder are already on USB disk, it skips copying. So it copies only new files and folders.

Fedora :: Disk Copy Utility - Should Be Able To Not Only Copy Files But Boot Sector And Everything

Sep 1, 2010

I have a 160GB harddrive which I installed a F12, would like to upgrade to a bigger drive, but I hate to have to re-install everything.

Recommend a good disk copy utility? The utility should be able to not only copy files, but boot sector and everything. So I just need to make a copy, change my BIOS to boot from the new drive and run everything as before.

Software :: Copy Files From External Hard Disk

Apr 6, 2011

I have an external hard disk with lots of big files and a lot of small matlab script files .m. I would like to grab all the files inside that harddisk that have the .m extension or the *.mat file extension (both are matlab files). Of course this is a
-first-find the *.m files script and
-then copy the files into the hard disk.

What I do not know is how I can also keep the structure of the folders containing the *.m and *.mat files when I will copy them in my local hard disk. As this external hard disk contains 2TB of data it is not possible to copy all the files first and then remove the unnecessary. So I have to find and copy only the files I need but with also keeping the tree structure that the external hard disk has.

General :: Disk To Disk Copy Fedora 12?

Aug 17, 2010

S.M.A.R.T.tells me my primary fedora drive has lots of bad blocks,so I ordered a used identical drive from ebay.I want to do the very basic process of making a full backup of my existing drive - so as to replace it with a more or less identical replacement. Logically identical - not necewsarily sector to sector identical.im not literate in unix and its children - and seem to find a plethora of descriptinos of how to do what I want to do. which is

1. format the drive - what you may call low level format - ie op sys independent.

2. create a partition system compatible with my existing disk.

3. copy everything from my existing disk to the new disk.

4. put existing disk on the shelf as a backup and start to use new disk.

Fedora :: Can't Not Copy Files - Resolve This?

Nov 13, 2010

I'm a newbe with linux, thought it's a great OS but I'm nearly giving up. Nothing works like it should, to copy stupid files across you have to be some kind of wizz to do it.
I installed fresh copy of fedora 13, created folder on the desktop and connected via usb external hd.
Now, there is no way of coping files from my desktop to the USB drive as i get"error while coping to USB-Storage" The destination is read-only. Permissions - sure but there is nothing there sa tehy could not be determined.

Anyway, hoping someone can give me a light from the dark tunnel, so i don't have to go back to windows..

Red Hat / Fedora :: Cannot Copy Files Between Servers - Data Gets Corrupted

Apr 13, 2011

I am attempting to copy files from one server to an external USB drive on a second server. Both servers are running custom RedHat Linux, kernel 2.6. Both are setup as Check Point SecurePlatform (one is a log server and the other a management server). I am trying to archive files from one (HP DL380 G5) to the second (HP DL380 G6). I am not able to archive directly to the external usb drive when connected to the HP DL380 G5 (data gets corrupted and switches to read-only access). The external USB drive has no issues when connected to the HP DL380 G6 server, thus my reason for trying to copy the files across servers.

When I attempt to use scp to copy files between the server, I am prompted for the password. Once entered the debug shows the authentication is successful, but then no files are copied (see log below). I have tried searching for potential answers, but none have panned out. Unfortunately I can't yet post the actual scp debug log output as some of the text is viewed as a URL and not yet allowed for me. I have changed all the atsign symbols to '(a)' to avoid the URL inference.

Output log from scp attempt follows:
[Expert(a)server1]# scp -p -r -v /var/fromhere/* copyfile(a)server2:/media/disk/tohere/
Executing: program /usr/bin/ssh host server2, user copyfile, command scp -v -r -p -d -t /media/disk/tohere/

Fedora :: Copy Files With Prompt For Similar File Names?

Nov 17, 2009

has anyone used some software tool for copying a file from one location to another (I mean local files - for example from one folder to another), which prompts if you already have this file, or a similar one...I'm going to use it for my file archive ... mostly for my MP3For example, I might have the folder /home/user/MP3/Heavy Metal/Old/Downloaded/Metallicabut have forgotten that I already have Metallica in this folder and now I want to copy my new music collection to my archive folder which contains for example this folder:MP3/Rock/MetAllicA-Full-DiscographyI need copy files software which will tell me:"You already have folder with similar name to 'MetAllicA-Full-Discography' called 'Metallica', do you want to skip this folder, or copy it to location 'MP3/Heavy Metal/Old/Downloaded/'?"This way I will reduce the file redundancy in my file archive, or at least will keep similar items close to each other ..

General :: Fedora Ethernet File Locations For Auto Eth - X - Devices Missing Ifcfg-ethX Files

Jul 24, 2010

Missing ifcfg-eth[2-5] fileset for ZNYX 345Q Quad Port 10/100 cards. I have showing in the gui network device that my ports for my ZNYX ZX345Q Quad Port card my ports are Auto eth2, Auto eth3 etc. My Motherboard and Intel cards show as System eth0 and System eth1.

There ARE corresponding entries for those in my /etc/sysconfig/network-settings/ directory, but there are not ifcfg-eth[2-5] files to correspond to these adapters. Can I just write my own files and that will do it?

How does Fedora 12/13 load these drivers into the kernel without having these ifcfg files?

I'd love to know if there is another way Fedora controls NICs / other system resources.

Exactly this situation is happening for me while backing up tmp directory of ubuntu server ...

2. Also any ideas or scripts regarding automatic ftp (while doing a backup) from ubuntu server to windows... which can easily solve the above issue...

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - Prevent Auto Mouting Of Disk Devices?

May 17, 2010

In 8.04 it was easy to adjust, but with 10.04 I've tried to set the policies for udisks with no luck. I want Ubuntu to always ask for my password when a new device/disk is added to the system. If I don't give my password it should not mount the device. What happens now is that all disks added is mounted without any question leading me to believe that the policies is ignored (by a bug) or that I've missed something. I've been through obvious setting in the graphical shell and disabled them. But if they'd been enabled the policies should have kicked in. I do think it worked in version 9.10 when I tested it earlier this year or late last year, but I was waiting for the next LTS. How may I set up Ubuntu 10.04 to make it work as intended?

Ubuntu :: Command Line To Copy Files From One Location To Another / Retain Source Files Group / User?

Feb 20, 2011

Is there a method at the command line to copy files from one location to another and retain the source files group and user?I'm migrating some MySQL files from one machine to another.I want to back-up the original files in the directory presently. They have owner:group of mysql, some have owner:group root:mysql and so on. To copy them under cli or Nautilus everything changes to root for I execute sudo cp or gksudo nautilus and copy via gui.

Since it is MySQL data I could simply do a dump of the database and restore it on the other machine. But there's about 20 db's and I want to do this via a copy for it will be faster - at least that is what I think.
